As the mercury rises, Dear Member, it creates a special opportunity for you to cool off, slow down and consider the mes- sage of our Summertime issue of Faith Magazine . . . 75 years of Fellowship Bible Study. Every issue of FAITH offers our readers a variety of Bible Verses because we think it’s so important to share the living word of God. Yes, we call it the “living” word because its mes- sages are timeless. They can apply to the situations and prob- lems of today, as well as those of the past. The Bible’s passages also are “alive” because the Lord intend- ed them to be a guide to living our lives. As it says in Psalms 119:105, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” VOLUME 75 JULY, AUGUST, SEPTEMBER 2015 NO. 4 75 Years Of Faith . . . And Fellowship Bible Study! And where would we be with-out such a comprehensiveguide? We would be lost, DearFriend, because the Bible is acentral resource you can consultto figure out how to handle life’scomplications. As an extra benefit, studying

the Scriptures can bring youcloser to the Lord and provide abright, guiding light for yourjourney through life. On Page 6 of this FAITH,

you’ll meet Ronnie G., who oncewas a rebellious teenager fromNorth Carolina. Ronnie foundout the hard way that runningaway from home doesn’t solveyour problems, it creates awhole host of new ones. “A fellow homeless person in

the camp saw how depressed Ihad become,” Ronnie wrote.“One day, he called me over andsaid he had a present for me. Icould hardly believe it when hehanded me a small Bible he hadfound on the floor inside a busstation. At first, I looked at himlike he was crazy . . . I thoughtGod had abandoned me long ago. Still, I took the Bible and

walked away. It was several daysbefore I cracked it open andstarted to read some passages, figuring I had nothing to lose. You probably can guess the rest. The more I read, the more I real-ized, yes, the Lord really DOESlove me. It was I who had turnedaway from Him!”

On Page 11, you’ll also readabout longtime FellowshipMembers A. M., of New Yorkand Rosa J. of Florida, who have

belonged to Fellowship anastounding 54 years and 30years, respectively. BothMembers were drawn toFellowship by the stories, fea-tures, and yes, Bible Verses, ineach magazine and the well-known personal touch that weprovide our Members. As A. M.said, “Dear Fellowship Friends, thank you so much for the beau-tiful card, and most of all, forremembering my birth month! Thanks to everyone for thinkingof me on my 102nd birthday!”That’s quite a milestone, and

one we have been delighted tocelebrate with you, A. M.!We hope you’ll let us know

Fellowship Bible Study InspiresBy Sharing The Word Of God!How can you become closer to

the Lord, Dear Member? You cantalk to Him through prayer, ofcourse. You know we always aredelighted for you to do that. But there is another way to

seek out the Lord’s advice andwisdom, which complementsyour sincere prayer. You canlearn so much from God bystudying the Bible and readingits Scriptures. As the Holy Book says in II

Timothy 3:16: “All scripture isgiven by inspiration of God, andis profitable for doctrine, forreproof, for correction, forinstruction in righteousness.”So, let’s take a closer look at

the four ideas listed in the Biblepassage above that show us whatwe can learn from the Lord’sWords. The first insight we cansee in the list above is “doc-trine.” And certainly, the Bibleis a fountain of knowledge whenit comes to instructing us in itsdoctrine, or principles for life. Its pages provide God’s guidancefor people of faith, showing ushow to live in accordance withHis teachings. The next two ideas expressed

in that passage from the Book ofTimothy are “reproof and cor-rection.” This, Dear Friend, isabout knowing that studyingGod’s Word can set us straight ifwe are doing or thinking ofdoing something that doesn’tjibe with its life lessons. That’s

because, even though the Biblewas written long ago, peopleback then were the same as weare today; human beings whosometimes stray from the paththe Lord paved for us. Readingthe Bible with an open mind canput us back on the right trackand show us where God wantsus to go. The final lesson we get from

the passage in Timothy con-cerns “instruction in righteous-ness.” When we first open ourhearts to the Lord, we’re over-come with joy and the knowl-edge He is watching over us,always. At the same time, werealize we are starting anew, leaving our old lives behind andliving as God guides us. Bystudying the Bible, it becomesclear how we can live and honorHim. So, that’s how Fellowship’s

Bible Study can help you deepenyour faith and grow closer to theLord, Dear Member. We inviteyou to join us!

I was in trouble, and didn’tknow how to get out of the messI had made for myself. Yes, that’s how my story

starts, and I want to share itwith my Fellowship Friends tolet you know what I learned ...whenever things look bleak, Godopens a door for you to walkthrough and into His light. Of course, I didn’t know that

when I was much younger. Mymother was a single mom whotried to raise me right, but I wasa rebellious teenager who kneweverything there was to knowand refused to hear anything mymother said. What could shepossibly know about my life, Itold myself.Well, it turns out, she knew a

lot. Eager to get away from herrules, I ran away and wound upin a world of hurt. Withoutmoney or a job, I stumbled into ahomeless camp miles from myhome. I stayed there for a fewmonths and learned how hard itis to live on whatever I could getby turning in cans and bottles,or panhandling. I felt emptyinside when people looked downon me, and felt hopeless. A fellow homeless person in

the camp saw how depressed Ihad become. One day, he calledme over and said he had a pre-sent for me. I could hardlybelieve it when he handed me asmall Bible he had found on thefloor inside a bus station. At

first, I looked at him like he wascrazy. How was a Bible supposedto help me, I yelled at him! Ithought God had abandoned melong ago. Still, I took the Bible and

walked away. It was several daysbefore I cracked it open andstarted to read some passages, figuring I had nothing to lose. You probably can guess the rest. The more I read, the more I real-ized, yes, the Lord really DOESlove me. It was I who had turnedaway from Him! The first thing I did was walk

into a convenience store and askthe clerk to call my mom. I hadbeen gone four months and shehad been desperately searchingfor me. When she came to thestore to get me, both of us criedfor a long time. I’ve learned a lotabout myself since that awfultime. I know how much my momloves me now, and that Godbrought me home to her. I’llnever leave either of them again!

Some Members have inquiredabout how they might make abequest to Life-Study Fellowship.Through the years, many

Members have chosen to remem-ber our Fellowship in this spe-cial way and we are truly grate-ful. Some Members have includ-ed Fellowship in their wills, while others have named Life-Study Fellowship in their lifeinsurance policies. If you are interested in making

arrangements through your will,we suggest you talk with anattorney who can explain the taxadvantages and ways to go aboutmaking such a bequest.

Please remember that it is toeverybody’s advantage to have awill. This doesn’t apply just tothe very wealthy. The truth iseveryone who owns any propertyneeds a will to direct who shouldbenefit. Otherwise, some or all of your

property will be split up accord-ing to state law, which may leaveyour property in ways you didnot want or intend. Therefore, whether or not you

include a bequest to Life-StudyFellowship, we encourage you toseek the services of an attorneyto have a will drawn up if youhave not already done so.

You Can Help Fellowship Publish Its Prayerful, Positive Message!

Get ready to have some fun,Dear Member, because we’regoing to take you on an imagi-nary journey to three differenttravel destinations . . . each witha different message about theLord!

On our first trip we’re travel-ing to the mountains! Imagineyou’re way up high, with cloudsdrifting by. These tall mountainsremind us of God’s strength, astowering, majestic and everlast-ing as the mountains them-selves.

For our second trip, you’llneed to grab some imaginarysunscreen, Dear Friend, becausewe’re headed to the beach!Pretend you are standing on athe shore, looking out an oceanof calm water, waves gently lap-ping at the sand. There’s a softbreeze blowing and you are com-pletely relaxed as you stand atthe water’s edge. This setting isa reminder of God’s peace, which washes over us, cleansingaway our worries and fears.

Our third imaginary summervacation takes us to a big city, with busy streets, buses, air-ports and subways. Now, whatdo you think this destinationrepresents? Well, we’re glad youasked. It is a reminder of God’swisdom, because He gives us theknowledge to create all thosethings we see around a big city.

So, there you have it, DearFriend. We’ve taken you on apretend journey with a message. As our imagination “traveled”to each place, we discoveredsomething very important . . .the knowledge that no matterwhere we go or how far away itis from our homes and civiliza-tion, God is there! We only needto think about Him to see HisPresence around us.

Yes, He is on the mountain top,at the seashore and in the mid-dle of a busy street packed withvehicles rushing to their desti-nations. There is joy in knowingGod is everywhere at once, andthat we are never alone, even inthe middle of a trackless desert. The Lord is with you, by yourside. He stands ready to hearyour prayers and reveal Hisanswers to your questions whenthe time is right. Then Hisstrength, His peace and His wis-dom can be yours. You needn’tbe afraid because He walks withyou!

Take Our Imaginary JourneyAnd Learn About God’s Power!

Dear Fellowship, I reallyappreciated your thoughtfulnessand prayers for my daughter’sefforts to obtain work in herfield. I have trust in the Lordthat He will one day open a doorfor my daughter, and it will be ajoyful moment for the entirefamily. I have advised my daugh-ter to have courage, confidence, and above all, trust in GodAlmighty, and the Lord shall oneday answer her request for a job.I won’t stop praying until thathappens.

Also, I am grateful that I amassociated with this wonderfulLife-Study Fellowship. It hasgreatly changed my entire lifesince I associated with this orga-nization. I shall do my best to

inform you and my FellowMembers as soon as my daugh-ter finds work for which she isqualified. I actually gave hermost of the prayer help Irequested, to assist her in seek-ing employment. I have faith inthe Lord that her, and my,requests will not be in vainbecause with God, all things arepossible!

I’m also requesting extracopies of Fellowship’s DailyPrayers for the summer months, one for me and one for mydaughter. I think one can neversay too many prayers, and thesehelp me start the day out right.

I have been a Member ofFellowship for many years, andhave asked for prayer help anumber of times. You havealways responded with wonder-ful, sincere prayers for me touse, and I give thanks to theLord for answering them.

I enjoy your Faith Magazineas well and can’t imagine a daywithout its Daily Prayers, BibleVerses and inspiring stories. Ioften think if the FellowMembers I read about can over-come their hardships they faced, then my daughter and I havenothing to worry about!

Tomorrow Is Another Day, ButDon’t Put Off Important Tasks! Do you remember the old

story of the ant and thegrasshopper, Dear Member? Allsummer long the little ant gath-ered crumbs and morsels tostore in his house for the nextwinter. But the grasshopper justsang all day, putting off hischores until another time.

Finally, summer ended and theant who had worked so hard set-tled in with the fruits of hislabor. But the poor grasshopperhad nothing to show for all hisfun and games, and no time leftto prepare for the cold and snowto come!

The message of that story isit’s so easy to put off things thatwe don’t really want to do . . . butis it worth it? The answer is no,

because ignoring things doesn’tmake them go away. It just pro-longs the worry of knowingsomething is left undone.

If you’ve ever faced a difficulttask and thought, “I’ll do ittomorrow,” you probably realizeyou haven’t helped yourself. Infact, you’ve cheated yourself outof the satisfaction of gettingthat job done, like the little ant,so you could enjoy the rest ofyour time!

So, it’s true “tomorrow isanother day,” but how can youlook forward to tomorrow whenyou know you still have to finishan important task? Instead, make today count just as muchby tackling that hard work rightaway. It’s a good idea to take careof necessary business, even ifit’s not the most pleasant thingin the World. That way, we canmake time to do things that arefun!

Now, some folks say it’s best towait and start a new projectwhen the ideal situation pre-sents itself. But if you do that,Dear Member, remember thatsome of life’s best experiencescould pass you by.

With risk comes the chance ofa nice reward. So, don’t be likethat poor grasshopper and getcaught short, with no time tofinish an important task beforeits time is due!

“No More Mortgage And No More Car Payment!”I just wanted to drop you a line

to let you know of a prayer thatwas answered for me. A fewyears ago I wrote to Fellowshipand asked you to pray for me topay off my mortage. Well, God has answered myprayer! I was able to sell somecommercial property, buy a newhome and pay off my car pay-ment, and still have some moneyin savings. Now, I’m debt-free!No more mortgage and no morecar payment. It feels so good when the begin-

ning of the month comes up andI don’t have to write big checksto anyone! I had trouble savingfor retirement before, when Ihad to pay out so much eachmonth. Now, I’m able to put agenerous amount in savings andI feel really good about that. Ican actually plan ahead andchoose a retirement date. Icouldn’t have done that before.I’ve been a Member of

Fellowship for a long time, and Itell everybody, when you have aproblem and need help fromGod, just write to Life-StudyFellowship! Everything I haveasked them to help me prayabout has come through. God has been good to me, as He

has proven over and over again. Please keep praying for my son, too, that God will open his heartand my son will learn to have

faith in the Lord. He is a good boy, but he hasn’t

yet accepted God and invitedHim into his life. I worry aboutmy son because of that, but whatcan I do? I can only lead byexample and hope he decides tofollow one day. Or, even better, Iwish God could reach out to myson in some manner, so he feltthe Lord’s power and lovingkindness. In the meantime, I wanted to

say, may God bless all of you atFellowship for your good work. You truly bring hope to thosewho need it, and reach out andhelp hundreds upon hundredsof folks. I’ve enclosed a $50 giftto help your ministry continue. Ihope it grows bigger and reach-es more and more people withthe positive message ofFellowship!

NO MORE BROKEN NAILS

If you’re adding a key to yourkey ring, don’t try to wedge yourfingernail between the metalsides. Instead, use a stapleremover and you can avoidbreaking a nail.

* * *PAINTING TIPS

Place a large rubber band length-wise around an open can ofpaint, so it extends across thetop. You can wipe excess paintoff the brush with the rubberband instead of doing so on theside of the can. It’s a lot neater

The Lord Has A Garden OnEarth; We Are Its Flowers!

Imagine for a moment what itwould be like to visit God’sfarm, a little piece of acreagehere on Earth where He planted, tended and harvested a privategarden. What kind of cropwould He plant? Flowers ornutritious vegetables? Mightyoak trees or trees that bear deli-cious fruit? We know He has created so

many beautiful things, so per-haps He would plant the classicbeauty roses or tulips? Well Dear Member, you may

have figured out the answeralready, because the Lord doeshave a garden here on Earth andWE are its flowers and fruit! Weare the children of God, whomHe cares for, as He listens to andanswers our prayers. Yes, it is the Lord, through our

faith, who gives us strength and

courage when we need it. WithHis support, we can stand strongagainst troubles and temptation. He also blesses us with the

sweet fruits of peace and a bet-ter way of life when we requestthat through prayer. And, Godblesses us with a sturdy founda-tion of faith, which we rely uponwhen times are hard. Truly, we are all products of

God’s garden. He tends us eachwith loving care, nourishing, protecting and encouraging usto live good, fulfilling lives. If wewant to flourish in His garden, all we have to do is open ourminds and hearts to His good-ness and loving caretaking. When we pray, we know God is

listening. He may not make Hisanswers available right away, but rest assured God will revealthem in His own time for thebest effect. He doesn’t ask formuch from us, only that we keepin touch through prayer andkeep faith with Him.So, that’s how God’s garden

grows, Dear Member. It is areflection of us, and oneimagines how carefully tended itmust be, with perfectly trimmedshrubs and plants that flower allyear. Indeed, we are blessed to have

the Lord looking after us.Tended by faith and watered byHis love, we are pamperedplantings in the lushest andmost beautiful garden of all!

Speak, Lord, In The StillnessSpeak, Lord, in the stillness,While I wait on Thee;Hush’d my heart to listen,In expectancy.

Speak, O blessed Master,In this quiet hour;Let me see Thy Face, Lord,Feel Thy touch of power.

For the words Thou speakest,They are life indeed;Living bread from Heaven,Now my spirit feed.

Fill me with the knowledge,Of Thy glorious will; All Thine own good pleasure,In Thy child fulfill.

~Amen.

Take a look around you, DearMember. Look at the billboards, magazine ads and articles, thelatest fashions and TV shows.Notice they usually have a com-mon thread? Yes, they’re mostlyaimed at the young. Now, there’snothing wrong with that, as longas we don’t overlook those intheir senior years. After all, they’re still playing a big role inour society.

Unfortunately, older folks dosometimes get ignored. And fartoo many times we see a newsstory about someone takingadvantage of them. Well, DearMember, we, and you, can dosomething about that. Let’spledge to think more aboutseniors in our communities andmake an effort to understandtheir wants and needs.

You’ll often hear them saythey don’t fear aging, but worryabout being alone, with nofriends or family to includethem in activities. Thinkingabout that, it might mean a lot toan older person in your neigh-borhood if you visit them andhelp them do chores around thehouse that have become morechallenging for them.

And while you’re there, remember not to remind olderfolks who repeat a story thatthey’ve already talked about it.That can make someone afraidto talk in a group of people,

which is exactly the oppositeeffect that you would want. Afterall, chances are pretty good youor I have repeated a story our-selves.

You’ll often find seniorsinvolved in community pro-grams that help others, too.Since they’re usually retired, they can be more generous withtheir time. So, let’s thank olderfolks for all they’ve done fortheir communities and theircountry, throughout the years. We should be grateful for thewisdom they still can share withus in their golden years.

Yes, Dear Member, we hopeyou’ll agree, you and yourFellowship Friends can make adifference in the lives of others. So, the next time you’re aroundseniors, let them know they areloved, respected and neveralone!

You Can Make A Difference In theLives Of Others, Dear Member!
