Fonterra Smart Control
System descriptionFonterra Smart Control is a completely new type of single room regulation in radiant heating and cooling; it carries out the hydraulic calibration required by law in a fully automated process, ensuring agreeable temperatures and opti-mum calibration of the heat distribution systems at all times.
The Fonterra Smart Control components are mounted ready-to-plug at the manifold in the concealed manifold cabinet. The owner can operate them via any WLAN-capable end device by means of the browser-based user interface.
Fig. 244: Operation via smartphone Fig. 245: Fonterra Smart Control components
Easy operation provides for maximum user comfort, for example quick-action heating for priority rooms, temperature preservation at floor level, or absence mode for energy saving.

Application technology: Fonterra radiant heating and cooling
Features ■ WLAN-capable complete system, can be parameterised from any lo-cation world-wide via smartphone, tablet or laptop (remote diagnosis available).
■ Easy mounting (ready to plug) and installation (plug & play); clean instal-lation without any cable laying.
■ Perfect for refurbishment and reconstruction ■ Automatic adjustment of the system to the prevailing conditions (floor covering, heating circuit lengths, screed heights and external heat sour-ces)
■ Individual demand-driven heat output with special functions, allowing for energy savings of up to 20%
■ Very fast reaction time without over- and undershooting ■ Five regulation parameters for permanent hydraulic calibration of the system
■ Attractive subsidies available from funding programs offered by German institutions Bafa and KfW
Fonterra Smart Control regulation strategyVia five regulation parameters, continuous precise compensation is perfor-med for each individual heating circuit, avoiding over- and undershooting of the regulation and the loss of energy and comfort. In addition to the supply temperature, the return temperature in every heating circuit and the three room temperature values are measured.

Compact control station preset value The compact control station is used in heating systems whose heat output takes place on the one hand via consumers with a high supply temperature (e. g. radiators) and on the other hand via low-temperature heating surfaces (e. g. underfloor or wall heating). It has a mixer valve for regulating preset values without auxiliary energy and is used centrally to a maximum power requirement of 15 kW.

Manifold control station preset value
Since the maximum floor surface temperature is limited by standards and by building physics (to 29 °C in living rooms, 33 °C in bathrooms and 40 °C for wall heatings), the supply temperature must be kept at a correspondingly low value. In systems with high supply temperatures, this can for example be achieved by so-called manifold control stations. They monitor the supply temperature and prevent overheating of the heating surface by closing a valve. To achieve the nominal heating capacity, the pressure difference between the boiler cir-cuit and the surface heating must be minimum 200 hPa.

Small surface control station
Fig. 262: Small surface control station
The small surface control station is intended for regulating the supply tempe-rature of surface heating systems at a preselected fixed target value. The target value can be set continuously between 20 and 70 °C at the ther-mostat head. The small surface control station is used in systems whose con-sumers (e. g. radiators) are replaced by low-temperature heating surfaces. The supply temperature of the heating circuits is kept constant in the small surface control station by controlled addition of hot water from the heat ge-nerator. The target value for the supply temperature is set at the thermostat head. In case of malfunction, an additional temperature limiter switches the pump off when overtemperature of the fluid is present, thus preventing dama-ge to the surface heating. If the small surface control station is to be regulated additionally via a target value (room temperature), we recommend to use a thermostat valve in combi-nation with a basic unit.
System benefits ■ Readily mounted and wired in the built-in cabinet ■ For heating areas up to 40 m² ■ Suitable for up to 4 heating circuits ■ Incl. Wilo high-efficiency pump ■ Temperature regulation for an individual room can be connected via room thermostat and actuator.

Differential pressure regulator
Fig. 264: Differential pressure regulator
The intactness of the hydraulics of the system is an important precondition for its regulation behaviour. A decentralised dynamic differential pressure re-gulation is required because the mass flows vary due to the constantly chan-ging conditions. The differential pressure regulator is a high-performance differential pressure regulator which keeps the differential pressure constant via the load. Thanks to the pressure-relieved valve cone, an accurate differential pressure regulati-on is possible; the integrated locking function makes maintenance easy. Please observe the enclosed instructions for use regarding flow direction, ins-tallation situation etc.

Manifold cabinets
The manifold cabinets house not only the manifolds but also actuators, ball valves, basic units or other regulation devices. The cabinet allows for quick mounting of and easy access to the compo-nents.
Wall-mounted manifold cabinetMade of galvanised sheet steel, frame and door painted (colour pure white RAL 9016) with an installation depth of 140 mm, five cabinet widths available.
Features ■ Suitable for manifold DN25 ■ Height-adjustable from 630-790 mm ■ incl. universal bracket for manifold
