Grand March finishes in record-breaking time
The junior class decided to dec-
orate Grand March using their
Prom Theme of “A Night of En-
chantment.”
Grand March started at 3:00
p.m. on April 30 and finished
around 4:00 p.m. Couples then
chilled out or headed to Terre
Haute to eat before pictures and
the prom.
Prom Held at Clayshire Castle
Holly Bough escorted by Brandon Minks. Alexis Graves escorted by Wyatt Stone.
After days of waiting and hours
of preparation, Prom came and went
in a speedy, dance-filled flash. We
all took a step into A Knight of En-
chantment, as the theme was well
executed by Mrs. Amber Rash,
Kristi King, Travis Hutchens, and
the Junior Class. The evening,
which took place at the Clayshire
Castle, was blessed with beautiful
weather and beautiful dresses. There
were fun party favors and the sur-
prise photo booth was a hit. “The
best part about Prom was that every-
one had fun,” adds junior Makayla
Oliver. Seniors Kyle Cody and Al-
berte Christiansen were nominated
Prom King and Queen. Juniors Sky-
ler Sipes and Adrian Henico were
also voted Prom Prince and Prin-
cess.—Tyralee Frye

The Leadership class came up with a
plan to put safety in the minds of Prom
Goers. They had a wrecked car brought in
to have prom goers sign pledging that they
will not drink, drive, or text. Mr. Hacker graphically painted a picture
with a message of placing flowers on a
graduation chair of one of our senior class
members who may not heed the message
of being safe.
The activity must have made an impres-
sion as all members returned safely even
after a weather related scare.

“Nants ingonyama bagithi Baba,”
as Rafiki sings as she walks out on
stage. “Rafiki kind of fit my personal-
ity so it was not hard to get into char-acter,” said Allison Taylor about her
role. “Life’s not fair, is it? You see I,
well I shall never be King. And you
shall never see the light of another
day,” Scar says while playing with his
food. ”Yes, as I have never played an
evil character. However, actors have
to realize that they are themselves,
not their character, which makes it
easier to portray a different personali-
ty than your own,” Ian Staggs, who played Scar, explains about his char-
acter. On April 22-23 the JH Drama
premiered their show “The Lion
King.” Students worked for four
months to put on the standing room
only show. After adding more chairs
there were people standing against the
wall.—Felicity Downey

Congratulations to the following
student authors, who provided chap-
ter-length contributions to - LEGA-
CY 2016. The Legacy Series is an
initiative designed for all Juniors in
Mrs. Howell’s English Composition
class. The published pieces were
selected for their content, topical
value, and the overall presentation.
The assignment required students to
do primary research over traditions
or processes, which have not been
modernized by today’s technology.
Some of the topics included candle
making, crocheting, dolls made from
corn shucks, pottery, and more. A
brunch reception was held in the Li-
brary for the contributing authors,
their parents, and their interviewees
on April 26, 2016. At that time a
copy of the book was donated to the
school library for students to enjoy in

ryone had fun. “We rode basically all the roller coasters and my senior
prom was the best one yet,” Kendra
Gamble says and Shannon Pittman
adds “I had a lot of fun with Hunter Cornelius, the leader of 474.” Rebec-

says "My favorite thing about going to King’s Island was hanging out
with my friends and riding the Dia-

wards Indiana again. Even though
the sun had been shining all day, it
took a shift when phones starting beeping, alerting for tornadoes. The
rain poured down on the bus and it
sounded like we sat in a tin can. Opinions on the weather were di-
verse, Lexie Hamil said "The tornado
warning was cool. I ain’t scared of no nadors” but Abby Denham ex-
plains “The worst part was almost
being stuck in a tornado on the way
home.”

With two busses leaving early 5:30am, many prom attendants had
few hours of sleep before once
again having to go to the school to
catch the busses taking them to-wards Ohio. The four hour bus
drive was mainly used for sleeping.
However, when the bus arrived at the parking lot near the amusement
park, the excitement started rising.
Groups spread around in the park to try all the rides and roller coast-
ers in the sunny weather. “My fa-
vorite ride was definitely Invertigo"
said Abby Denham and Meggan Miller said “My favorite thing
about post prom firehawk. The
firehawk lays you down on your back and then when it takes off you
flip upside own and you're facing
the ground 95% of the time and it is just insane! The adrenaline rush
is just perfect.” Even though people
were tired after the late night eve-
