We were forged in Detroit in 1916 by two men who understood that a company can make a difference when values take the lead. Trust. Integrity. Honesty. Character. Doing what is right. Words with great meaning that don’t seem to mean anything anymore. Well, they mean something to us. They form the foundation of a company operating 96 years after George Walbridge and Albert Aldinger built it.

Our singular purpose is to construct world-class facilities. Facilities Built for GoodSM by expertly-managed teams whose passion for safety, quality and service is a personal commitment. We believe the foundation of a strong relationship is found in the values that drive a company. Having mutual understanding of how success is achieved by an alignment of core values is a tool that is unparalleled to all. Our philosophy of producing added value, embracing change and a commitment to teamwork and innovation are the foundation of our Commitment to Excellence.

Walbridge is a Lean construction leader and innovator. More than a list of tools, our Lean Construction program is about understanding methods, applications and benefits to provide the right tools for the right job, applying Lessons Learned and reviewing our processes to increase productivity and reduce waste.

LEAN CONSTRUCTION

SUSTAINABILITY Walbridge is dedicated to providing environmental stewardship to the communities and ecosystems in which we build. In 2010, we became the first contractor in the United States to complete an airport terminal designed under the LEED® green building certification program.

TOOLS FOR SUCCESS QUALITY ASSURANCE Walbridge was the first construction company to become ISO certified and is currently ISO 9001:2008 certified. Every job site team implements a master project plan that builds in quality during each step of the project to ensure work complies with the contract documents. Walbridge’s effective Quality Control Plan eliminates the waste of defect and rework by identifying and correcting deficiencies early upstream in the construction process.

VSTART & VPUNCH Our proprietary VStart system manages the extraction, shipping, installation, start-up, testing, final acceptance and check out requirements for equipment. VPunch is a disciplined approach to plan, implement and visually manage the punch list process.

VA/VE & LESSONS LEARNED

VDC

By applying value analysis/value engineering (VA/VE) to construction projects, we can help owners realize substantial savings. In addition to the VA/VE Knowledge Base, Walbridge has established a Lessons Learned Knowledge Base which captures cost-savings ideas and tough lessons learned from both field operations and administrative management activities.

Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) is a process that produces a digital representation of a building’s physical and functional characteristics, was well as the surrounding underground utilities. Walbridge Technologies LLC, a subsidiary of Walbridge, uses VDC to deliver exacting design criteria, point out potential clashes and help eliminate conflicts, while saving time and money.

HIGHLIGHTED EXPERIENCE

Walbridge was selected to build the new 98,900 square foot Command and Control Training Facility for the 101st Airborne Division. The building’s layout represents the wing span of an eagle, composed of two separate wings shaped as a “V” configuration, connected by a main lobby area. One side is composed of two floors for offices, public areas, limited access secured areas and a secured basement level. The other houses faculty and administrative offices, training classrooms, briefing and debriefing rooms, special function areas, and conference rooms, mechanical and electrical rooms, break rooms and restrooms.

Walbridge served as general contractor for North Port’s new City Hall and adjacent Police Station. A 100,000 square foot complex, The City Hall Building and Police Station were built side by side on a 15 acre lot in North Port’s new Public Services complex. Both hurricane hardened buildings are rectangular in shape with tilt-up exterior walls, structural steel framing, and a roof system of metal deck over steel joists, wood trusses and concrete tile roofing.

This project consisted of design-build services for major improvements to the City of Taylor’s municipal complex to address facilities that were inadequate in size and function. Two major facilities were built to provide state-of-the-art fire protection and uphold the law. The Midtown Fire Station doubles the size of the old main fire station, providing ample space for firefighters, administrative offices, fire trucks and rescue vehicles. The 23rd District Court expands courtroom and workroom capacity to accommodate the court’s increased caseload. A secure prisoner transfer area was also provided in addition to the parking lot between the two buildings.

Walbridge was selected as the general contractor for the construction of the City of Ann Arbor’s Wheeler Service Center. The facility was the largest project in relation to scope the City of Ann Arbor ever undertook. The main goal of the project was to consolidate existing operations which were previously spread throughout the entire city to become more efficient and effective. The scope of work for the Service Center consisted of site development, construction of three main buildings and several miscellaneous site structures. The site development entailed the clearing, grubbing and site balancing of the 48-acre site.

At a base that supports 120,000 active-duty, reserve and retired military personnel and their families, providing modern facilities and amenities is important. The new 150,000 square foot Armed Forces Reserve Center (AFRC) enabled the USACE to relocate nine Army Reserve Units to this one facility. The building features a 121,580-square-foot training center and a 12,580-square-foot organizational maintenance shop. This 600-member center houses administrative areas, educational assembly and library spaces, a weapons vault and simulator, and a large physical fitness center.

This project also included a 10,000 square foot building addition to the 927th Security Forces Facility which was added more than half way through the project. The facility includes extensive office and administration spaces as well as state-of-the-art conference, investigation and interview rooms. Walbridge provided construction management services for the new Tampa Bay History Center of Hillsborough County. This 60,000 square foot museum and cultural center is the first Hillsborough County-owned LEED certified building and is situated on the waterfront in downtown Tampa on a 2.5-acre site in Cotanchobee–Ft. Brooke Park. The Center is positioned along the two-mile pedestrian riverwalk promenade, where many of the museums and cultural facilities are located. The Walbridge team saved the Tampa Bay History Center more than $450,000 in accepted value-engineering alternates by suggesting options that would reduce cost while not impacting design intent or aesthetic appeal of the building.

Walbridge was selected as the lead contractor for the design- build delivery of the USPS’ Northeast Metro Packaging and Distribution Center located in Pontiac, Michigan. The 800,000 square foot facility’s primary function was to house the fixed mechanization systems for the bulk mail system and tray mail system. Interior spaces included a 576,000 square foot workroom, support spaces, administrative/office spaces and special function spaces including a battery charging room, flammable storage room and computer room. The new building consolidated several existing postal functions, housed in multiple buildings, into a new state-of-the-art unified facility.
