Welcome and Announcements

God Calls Us to Worship *Call to Worship

The Lord Jesus who calls us to worship him today is the same Jesus who refused the temptation

to worship the evil one.

Rather than receive the glorious kingdoms of this world, he endured the shame of the cross,

and today is Lord of lords and King of kings. Now are gathered in him all the treasures

of wisdom and knowledge, glory, and power. With the saints of all ages we say,

“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,

to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”

CLASSIS CHATHAM HIGHLIGHTS Tuesday, September 22, 2015 hosted by Forest City Community Church, London

1. Pastor Rob Hogendoorn of the host church welcomed all delegates and guests and led a time of worship in song and devotions.

2. All 27 churches of Classis were present, including 67 delegates and 9 first-time delegates.

The latter all signed the Covenant for Office Bearers. 3. Classis was declared constituted and Pastor Dirk Miedema of Aylmer CRC and Pastor Tim

Luimes of Blenheim CRC were seated as Chair and Vice-Chair respectively. Mr. Ron Middel was seated as the Clerk.

4. Classis Prayer Coordinator Pastor John VanTil encouraged delegates to break into small groups for a time in prayer.

5. Hilma Steenbergen, Classis Chatham Youth Consultant led the delegates in an exercise

discussing the State of Youth Ministry in Classis Chatham. She encouraged us to consider the importance of youth ministry, and what can we offer (as churches) to our youth, that

no one else can fill. 6. Following an examination, Classis approved Commissioned Pastor status to Mr. Jake

Snieder, the Youth and Education Director of Chatham-Grace. We congratulate Pastor Jake

and pray that his ministry might be blessed. 7. London-Forest City, is seeking Commissioned Pastor status for Mr. Nick VanderPloeg. With

the concurrence of the Synodical Deputies, Classis recognized that the job description is consistent with the guidelines for Commissioned Pastor. Classis will now proceed with the

examination of Mr. VanderPloeg at the next meeting of classis. 8. Following a recommendation from the Classical Ministries Committee, Classis approved that

a church that is served by an interim pastor will not be entitled to classical pulpit supply.

9. The Treasurer, Mr. Harry Verburg presented the 2016 Classis Chatham Budget on behalf of the Finance Committee. Classis approved the budget and noted that the classis ministry

share per professing member has slightly decreased to $71.30 (2015 was $72.65). 10. Delegates participated in an interactive Justice and Faith Presentation – God’s Call to

Justice. We are challenged to examine how justice is amplified by our church activities in

the pursuit of justice. 11. Pastor Rob Hogendoorn of Forest City Community Church gave a presentation on “Shaping

a Missional Church”. He highlighted four Characteristics of a Missional Church: 1. Cultural Accessibility / 2. Biblical Clarity / 3. Need-Meeting Environment / 4. Sending Culture.

12. Classis was blessed with a variety of other speakers and reports.

13. Classis adjourned at 4:15 pm to meet again at Destination Church in St. Thomas on Saturday. January 23, 2016 at 9:00 a.m., DV.
