a. Balfour Declaration: British document encouraging Jews to move to Palestine and set up a nation of their own

b. Thousands of Jews from Europe moved to the area they believed God promised them (called Israel) because of discrimination in Europe in places like Germany and Russia between 1920 and 1940

c. This would lead to armed conflict between Jews and Muslims in Palestine
