    Introduction

Egypts Description by Information 9th edition ispublished in the outset of a new phase of Egypts historyaimed at the modernization of the society. In this regard, itmainly focuses on monitoring the real situation andconcurrently identifying the level of services offered in Egyptin 2011.

According to publishing periodicity, the version at handintroduces an honest picture of the real situation of bothEgypt at large and governorates using the language of figuresand information. However, the data covers the pre January25th revolution. Hence, the book relies on Egypts data at thebegin of 2011 covering all areas except for politicalparticipation as it included the description of the newconstituencies as set forth post revolution in order to serve

as the cornerstone for making a comparison between Egyptssituation pre and post revolution.

God Willing, the 10th edition will be issued in 2013, to serveas criterion for defining the differences based on the postrevolution socio-economic and political gains.

In this context, acknowledged standards and methodologiesof scientific research had been adopted in the data collectionprocess from its original sources. For this purpose, workshopshad been held with the sources aimed at revising, validatingand comparing the data against the original definitions.Hence, the validation process showed a number ofdiscrepancies between this and previous editions. We feltobliged to note the said differences.

The Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center isintroducing this edition to the Egyptian society and all thedevelopment leaderships and wishes to acknowledge theendeavors of all those who participated in preparing andcollating this book which comes as the fruit of joint effort ofinformation and decision support centers affiliated withdifferent ministries, agencies and governorates.

In this occasion, we are hoping that this edition of Egypts

Description by Information series would effectivelycontribute to boosting the developments efforts in Egypt. Outof our sincere commitment to presenting a publication thatwould deeply and honestly describe the Egyptian reality, anycomments or suggestions are highly encouraged andappreciated.

Concurrently, we are hoping to see a strong, capable andpioneer Egypt in the coming period of time. We are wishingas well to immediately engage in working, construction anddevelopment for the sake of achieving the goals of therevolution by ranking Egypt among major countriesworldwide.
