Just what In¬ crease has been granted Is sot yet known to the oKicala of that com¬ pany here or to the attorneys In¬ terested. The dispatch says that the in¬ crease Is not to the level the com¬ pany had aaked for, and the com¬ mission says that any schedule at this time is necessarily more or less tentative. In disposing of this case the com¬ mission considered the complaint of inadequate service, water supply, and the request of consumers for cheaper rates, and aleo requeet of the water company to Increase Its rates. The order Issued by the commlseios partly sustains both. Some time ago the commission directed this company to install a filtration plant. The commission holds that the supply of water is now sufficient, but that as soon as conditions become normal after the war, it will be necearary to build a pipe line between this city and the dam at Barcroft. Fairfax county, where the water shed Is located. The commission elso holds that the mains In the city streets are of aufficient slse for domestic pur¬ poses, but not to furnish pressure and volume through Are plugs for lire protection purposes. Lack of preeaure In houees Is held to be mslnly due to the company * failure to require standard service pipes of adequate alse. The com¬ pany Is required to clean its pipes of rust. The State health authorities here soon will launch a crusade against all property owners whoee property abuts sewers and who have not >et complied with the law by tapping same. Such persons will be brouirtil into the Police Court and lines Im¬ posed for their delinquency. It is stat¬ ed. A few weeks ago. It is stated, there was considerable eewer work irolng on here, but It has not stepped snd the authorities Intend to strictly enforce the sewer tap law. It Is Not Difficult to Find a Position.if you are an efficient worker in any useful line. Butin these times, quite as much as in peace times, it is easierto find the wrong than the right job. You cannot affordto do that. Perhaps you already have that sort of a job,and know that you are not "getting anywhere." Tell whatyou can do. and find the right opportunity for service, through classified advertising.

Alexandria, Vs., August II..TheAlexandria Water Company hasbeen granted permission to IncreaseIts rates by. the 8tate CorporationCommlaalon. according to a dispatchfrom Richmond. Just what In¬crease has been granted Is sot yetknown to the oKicala of that com¬

pany here or to the attorneys In¬terested. The dispatch says that the in¬

crease Is not to the level the com¬pany had aaked for, and the com¬mission says that any schedule atthis time is necessarily more orless tentative. In disposing of this case the com¬

mission considered the complaint ofinadequate service, water supply, and the request of consumers forcheaper rates, and aleo requeet ofthe water company to Increase Itsrates. The order Issued by thecommlseios partly sustains both. Some time ago the commission

directed this company to install afiltration plant. The commissionholds that the supply of water isnow sufficient, but that as soon asconditions become normal after thewar, it will be necearary to build apipe line between this city and thedam at Barcroft. Fairfax county, where the water shed Is located. The commission elso holds that

the mains In the city streets areof aufficient slse for domestic pur¬poses, but not to furnish pressureand volume through Are plugs forlire protection purposes.Lack of preeaure In houees Is held

to be mslnly due to the company *failure to require standard servicepipes of adequate alse. The com¬pany Is required to clean its pipesof rust.
