In a word, “maybe.”In theory, if you put enough horse-

power behind a fan, you should be ableto pull plastic off a conveyor belt. Butthe plastic needs to be on top of thematerial passing underneath the fanfor that to work. In addition, all thefines need to be removed from the ma-terial or the suction of the fan will bepulling all the fine debris also. That iswhy you cannot use these fans on fin-ished products coming off the finesdischarge conveyors.

My only experience with thesetypes of equipment has been withthe Komptech Hurrikan units andthe windsifter option added to theKomptech Star Screens and thereare three things that make themwork so well:

1. Plastic or inert materials need to beon top of the other materials;

2. Suction area needs to be where thematerial can be free floating; and

3. Input of the material needs to be areduced consistent flow.

Trying to take a pile of just contami-nated overs and process it through amachine to remove the inerts does notwork well. There are too many contami-nants and too much volume. Takecharge of the issue when you are creat-ing it. For example, having the reducedflow and consistent flow from an oversconveyor coming from a screen of anykind will work well for a removal opera-

tion. Also, being able to use the suctionof the fan as the material cascades off ascreen deck, any screen deck, is anoth-er good option.

If you are setting up your own opera-tion or trying other systems look for thefollowing:

1. Have the ability or the option ofinstalling a fan underneath the mate-rial to lift debris to the surface andcreate free floating particles like theKomptech Hurrikan does. This is whyit works so well.

2. For pulling off contaminants lookfor the availability of two fans instead ofone. You get twice the air movementwith less horsepower and for heaviercontamination you will need this.

3. Look for a magnetic head pulley op-tion. Any nails your grinder missed suredo have a way of making it back intoyour mulch.

4. Everyone get some sort of stone inthere material, so adding a stone trapon the discharge conveyor is easy to doand will remove the stones for you giv-ing you a higher quality product.

While the Komptech Hurrikan does allthis, it does come at a price.

So what should you do? Which mate-rials, if they were clean, would give youthe best economic boost? It’s not justwhat material you sell for the highestdollar, it’s what is costing you the most.Moving material piles, trucking to thelandfill, whatever. What will give you the

best economic benefit?1. Define your problem and its source;2. Define your budget; and3. Choose which contaminants to re-

move first. The additional options canbe added later.

In closing, while we are discussingmaterial contaminants, many newstone type separators have come on themarket. Removing the stone from youryard cleanup material, removing stonefrom your mulch or compost is easilydone today. The most benefit I have

seen though is from removing rock fromConstruction and Demolition debrisdestined for the landfill. It is difficult tosee the volume of heavies in a pile ofshredded C&D, but after you run itthrough a stone separator, your walletwill be much heavier with the moneyyou saved on disposal. If you haven’ttried one yet, what are you waiting for?

WALTON, KY — SteinertUS, a leading supplier of sep-aration equipment for thescrap, waste, recycling andmining markets, has an-nounced the retirement ofDennis Ciccotelli, Scrap Mar-ket vice president. Ciccotellihas worked with SteinertU.S. since its inception in theUnited States and will offi-cially retire on May 31, 2013.

This announcementcomes as Dennis nears50 years of dedicatedservice to the recyclingindustry. Among Cic-cotelli’s lengthy record ofcareer achievements ishis work with SteinertU.S. During his tenurewith Steinert, Dennis wasintegral in aiding thecompany’s growth from aresale entity with threeemployees to a full serv-ice corporation with over30 employees.

Dennis began his ca-reer in 1964 as a craneand monorail engineer, following a career paththat eventually led to po-sitions as operationsmanager with CamdenIron & Metal, Inc. andthen Resource Recycling,LLC. His position at Re-source Recycling led himto represent SteinertGmbH in the UnitedStates before ultimatelytaking a position in thenewly formed entity ofSteinert US in 2003.

“During my time, Iwatched as the profitdriven scrap industrygrew into the recycling in-dustry driven by the goodof all mankind.” Said Cic-cotelli. “What was doneby hand at a few poundsper hour is now accom-plished by machines at ahundred tons or more perhour. Workers, no longerin harms way, monitortechnology systems in-stead of picking andchopping at metals byhand. I am very proud tobe a part of the develop-ment of recycling technol-ogy spanning my careerof nearly 50 years.”

“For many of our cus-tomers Steinert U.S. isDennis Ciccotelli.” SaidSteinert U.S. PresidentJason Looman. “He hasbeen a great leader, in-novator, friend and men-tor to many in the indus-try. Dennis’ dedicationto Steinert and the in-dustry is unparalleledand deserves our great-est of thanks.”

Ciccotelli began the

transition to retirementin January 2013 and willspend the remainder ofhis time at Steinert U.S.in an ambassador/men-tor role. Dennis hasserved as a mentor andmarket expert for manyyears and leaves the com-pany in a position to con-tinue his legacy withgreat success.

Steinert GmbH CEO

Marcus Heinrich said“From the very beginning;Dennis supported Stein-ert’s development in theNorth American Market.Over the years he helpedto develop the under-standing within theSteinert Group that thebusiness is not onlyabout one specific tech-nology, it is about thebest possible solution for

our customers. Develop-ing concepts for ourclients, together with theapplication specialistaround the world, be-came his strength. Wethank Dennis for his out-standing achievementsand fantastic supportand we wish him all thebest in his retirement.”

In his retirement Den-nis notes that his priori-

ties will be “to be a betterhusband, father, grand-father, uncle, neighbor, citizen, human being, golfer, cook and garden-er, (not necessarily inthat order).”

On behalf of Steinertemployees around theglobe, congratulationson your retirement “Un-cle Dennis.”

or quasar Energy Group President,Melvin Kurtz, the use of the phrase“coming full circle,” describes how hiscompany’s recycling and energy produc-tion benefits people on a grand scale. With customers who rely upon quasar’selectrical and natural gas productionand their Equate™ naturally balanced

NPK agricultural soil amendment product, quasar’sfuture seems to have unlimited potential. At the sametime, quasar has an increasing number of supplierswho bring them recyclable waste material that quasarturns into commodities. Their idea of generating asustainable source of electrical power while at thesame time creating other much needed fuel and fer-tilizer products is a reality that has been evolvingsince 2006.

Kurtz recalled how quasar began as part of a part-nership with a German company as they worked todevelop an anaerobic digester to convert municipalsludge into electrical and natural gas energy for thecity of Akron, Ohio. The partner company went out ofbusiness, but quasar took the best of the Europeantechnology that they were using, converted it toAmerican standards over the next three years, andquasar was born. Now 99 percent of a facility’s com-ponents are made in the United States, with approx-imately 80 percent of them made in Ohio.

He said they perfected the membrane roof designs, now using their own. They developed their ownmixing equipment, stands and foundations, witheverything meeting U.S. regulatory requirements.Since that first facility, quasar has gone on to installdigesters at 10 locations. Currently they have plantsthat are on line or under construction in Ohio, NewYork and Massachusetts.

Capabilities“Anaerobic digesters are the ideal way to convert

organic residuals into renewable energy, reduce yourcarbon footprint and the result is cleaner air, soil andwater,” said Kurtz. “We have taken a European styleagricultural installation and converted it for use in anindustrial environment.”

At each facility, they generate electricity in somecapacity, with some of the units working in partner-ship with Air Products, Inc. to produce natural gasafter taking out the H2S, then drying it before sepa-rating the CO2 from the methane, and makingpipeline quality gas. At this point, quasar is able tocompress the gas to make motor vehicle fuel in theform of CNG. “We have converted about 30 companyvehicles to run on our own brand of motor vehicle fuelwe call qng™,” he said. “Twenty seven of them are ourcompany vehicles.”

The process“We take in material in trailer loads. We use mate-

rials like organic crop residuals, sewage sludge, fats, oils and grease, with some of it coming from Fortune

500 sources, materials like off spec products anddamaged food items. We depackage it, recycling thecardboard and plastic from the packaging, and putthe organics into the digester, with the effluent beingused to manage the composted material using theKomptech X-53 Windrow Turner.”

Kurtz said that most composters run the leavesthat they recycle, in a grinder or shredder of somekind, because leaves will not break down until theirsurface is disturbed. However, at the quasar plantsthat work on the “complete mix” formulation (a highliquid lower solids blend of materials), they use aKomptech windrow turner outfitted with the irriga-tion option to incorporate the effluent from thedigester into the windrows. They make several passeswith the unit because the added moisture helps tospeed up the time that it takes for the compost to

mature. He noted that they add one pound of aspecial admixture, branded by quasar as q-bio™, per1000 gallons of effluent, which works to mitigate theodor and shorten compost time.

“A similar admixture has been used in Europe foralmost two decades. It does not eliminate the odor, but it mitigates the traditional odor that you wouldassociate with sewage sludge or organic volatilesolids. When you incorporate the admixture with thewindrow turner, it adheres to the surface of theleaves, making the biological process that usuallytakes eight or nine months to break down the leaves, take only three months to make compost. We canconvert raw leaves into a marketable compostedproduct in less than half the time.”

The effluent is about 93 percent water, so beingexothermic, the windrows heat from the inside outand the liquid evaporates. That leaves high valuenutrients in the compost. In this case, the nutrientsare not running off and being wasted, but they areretained in the material.

Currently, the effluent is not only used for injectioninto the windrows, but it is also transported to farm-land for application where permits are already inplace. Future plans are to use as much as possible inthe windrows. That will depend upon additionalwindrow turners with injection systems coming online at the various locations.

New ideas“We have currently partnered with The Ohio State

University to develop a ‘dry’ digester that is designedfor cellulosic material as its primary biomass source,”Kurtz added. Instead of being a slurry based “wet”design, they are looking for 70 to 80 percent propor-tion of solids to liquids in the digester at theZanesville, Ohio location.

“The Ohio State University will plant a cellulosicgrass, Miscanthus giganteus, to harvest for fuel forthis digester,” he said. “That is a patent pendingprocess that is showing excellent results. Thisdigester produces natural gas. This is our first one ofthis kind.”

Kurtz said that because of his association withKurtz Bros., Inc., quasar has a ready wholesale out-let for their composted material. His brother Tom hasgrown Kurtz Bros. to be the largest originator of com-posted material in the state of Ohio.

From taking bio-waste in the form of municipalwaste, livestock manure, food waste, yard waste andwood waste materials, and turning it into naturalgas, compressed natural gas, electrical power andcomposted material for agricultural application,Kurtz rightly says that quasar’s technology uses aprocess that brings things “full circle.” For moreinformation about quasar energy group, visit theirwebsite at www.quasarenergygroup.com. For moreinformation on Komptech equipment, visit their web-site at www.komptech.com.

WEST FARGO, ND — The upgradedinterim Tier 4-compliant (iT4) DL250-3offers several improvements that en-

hance its productivity and comfort formoving materials in infrastructure proj-ects, as well as building, site develop-

ment and livestock production applica-tions. The new DL250-3 does more thanmeet the iT4 regulations, as its im-provements have been designed to re-sult in increased performance andgreater reliability.

More power and greaterfuel efficiency

The 3.7-cubic-yard DL250-3 has beenreintroduced as a 172 hp iT4 wheelloader — up from 163 hp in its previousdesign. It is engineered with a breakoutforce of 27,120-pounds, a full turn tip-ping capacity of 20,680-pounds and adump height of 9-feet 2 -inches.

For those requiring additionaldumping capabilities, the DL250-3 isalso available in a high lift configura-tion, extending the dump height 18-inches above the standard DL250, to10-feet 8-inches.

This wheel loader’s new auto idle fea-ture provides additional noise reductionand fuel savings by reducing the work-ing idle of the wheel loader from 950rpm to a standby idle setting of 750 rpmwhen the machine is inactive for a shortperiod of time.

Increased performanceDesigned with improved lifting per-

formance, the DL250-3 offers operatorsthe ability to set upper and lower limitsfor both the lift arm and bucket stop po-sitions from inside the cab. Better liftingcapabilities improve cycle times in dig-ging and loading applications, while

providing better control of the lift armand bucket positions. An optionalfourth spool control valve provides oper-ators the capability to utilize an attach-ment that requires an additional hy-draulic function, e.g., some snowblow-ers and snow blades.

To keep the wheel loader running atoptimal performance in dirty and dustyconditions, the DL250-3 incorporates anew automatic-reversing cooling fan.The operator can manually reverse thefan via a switch, or set it to automatical-ly reverse on a preset time frame. Eachtime the fan reverses, it will run in re-verse for a few minutes to clean thecooling system. This results in longerworking hours and shorter mainte-nance time to clean the cooling system.

Operators can also expect upgradeddriving performance options. As an al-ternative to the standard limited slipdifferential, the DL250-3 offers an op-tional hydraulic locking front differen-tial. Based on ground conditions, theoperator can choose to lock the differen-tial manually with a floor mounted footswitch, or allow the machine to auto-matically engage the system. This pro-vides increased driving power when onewheel spins or loses traction and im-proves machine performance when nav-igating tough terrain.

This Doosan wheelloader is equipped withsix cylinder DL06 dieselengine that has been opti-mized for use with cooledexhaust gas recirculation(CEGR) system, a dieseloxidation catalyst (DOC)and a diesel particulatefilter (DPF). Engines withthis configuration are op-timized to reduce nitrogenoxides (NOX) and aftertreatment is needed to re-duce particulate matter,to comply with iT4 emis-sion regulations.

The 360-cubic-inchengine features a highpressure common rail(HPCR) design with di-rect fuel injection, elec-tronic control and fourvalves per cylinder. TheHPCR system increasesthe efficiency of fuel de-livery via increased pres-sure. The increasedpressure allows the in-jector to inject a finermist into the engine, which results in a moreefficient combustion thatin turn produces moretorque and improved fueleconomy, less noise, low-er operating costs andcleaner exhaust.

ReliabilityService intervals on the

front lift arm pins haveincreased fivefold, from50 to 250 hours, reduc-

ing operating costs anddowntime. Tilt cylinderhydraulic hoses havebeen rerouted for im-proved hose reliability, better hose movementand improved visibility tothe attachment.

Enhanced comfortInterior cabin improve-

ments also include anumber of multi-functiondisplay panel upgradeson a centralized monitorthat allows the operator

to view comprehensivemachine system informa-tion. The centralizedmonitor displays criticalmachine information —such as engine rpm, en-gine coolant temperature, fuel level, machine warn-ings, time and the trans-mission selected gear. Akey exterior cabin im-provement is loweredfront side glass, providingimproved visibility of op-erations. A new door

threshold makes gettingin and out of Doosanwheel loaders — andcleaning the inside of thecab much easier.

The DL250-3 — likeevery new Doosan ma-chine — is covered by aninnovative 48 hour partsguarantee. The programguarantees that if a “ma-chine debilitating” part isneeded, Doosan will de-liver it directly to the enduser within two business

days or Doosan will payfor a replacement ma-chine rental. The 48 HourParts Guarantee is sub-ject to carrier delivery re-strictions and/or govern-mental agency delays.

RACINE, WI — CaseConstruction Equipmenttoday introduced the newCase 521F wheel loader, offering customers a 12percent increase in fuelefficiency over the previ-ous E Series model, whiledelivering faster accelera-tion and quicker cycletimes. The machine isavailable in standard Z-bar, extended reach andtool carrier models, andis the latest offering inthe company’s F Serieswheel loader line, whichboasts premium featuresand industry leading per-formance, productivityand efficiency.

Case chose selectivecatalytic reduction (SCR)technology for the 521Fto meet Tier 4 Interimemissions standardsbased on the machine’sapplication tasks andpower demands. SCR re-sults in lower tempera-tures in the exhaust sys-tem while optimizingcombustion.

“SCR was the obviouschoice for the 521F be-cause a wheel loader’stasks are more variable, creating inconsistent en-gine loads and power de-mands,” said Rob Mar-ringa, brand marketingmanager, Case Construc-tion Equipment. “Ratherthan compromise power,we let the engine do whatit does best — run atpeak performance — andthen use an after treat-ment for emissions.”

According to Marringa, the benefits of SCR tech-nology are greater efficien-cy and reduced downtimebecause there’s no height-ened fuel burn or dieselparticulate filter (DPF) re-generation. In addition, lower ambient tempera-tures means slower degra-dation of lubricating oil, which extends service in-tervals. Furthermore, few-er engine componentsmeans less crowding un-der the hood and easier ac-cess to service points. Op-erators also will experiencea faster throttle responseand cleaner emissions by

avoiding recirculationequipment utilizing cooledexhaust gas recirculation(CEGR) and DPFs.

“At Case, we’re commit-ted to matching the tech-nology with the task, andwe believe that SCR tech-

nology for our F Serieswheel loaders is the sim-plest, most powerful andefficient solution,” Mar-ringa said.

cling centers. These axles, with auto locking frontand open rear differen-tials, have the same de-sign as the larger F serieswheel loader axles, in-cluding metal face sealsand sintered bronzebrake linings. They offeroutstanding traction in allconditions, especially innon-compacted surfaceslike gravel and help re-duce tire wear whenworking on hard surfaces.

“The heavy duty axleshave superior sealing ca-pability and longer servicelives, improving ownerand operator costs,” Mar-ringa said. “In addition, they can accept higherload capacities, allowingoperators to configure theunit with solid, foam filledor chain wrapped tires.”

On a 50 meter loadingand dumping cycle, Caseestimates the 521F wheelloader can make up to 56cycles per hour, movingup to 144-square-yardsor 212 tons of materialper hour.

Advanced instru-ments and cab improvemachine and operator

effectivenessThe new advanced in-

strument cluster (AIC) onthe 521F wheel loaderhas four operatingmodes, allowing opera-tors and service techni-cians full visibility andcontrol of basic job func-tions, such as diesel ex-haust fluid (DEF) leveland fuel efficiency, aswell as protective controlsthat can help eliminatecostly repairs.

“Auto Idle is a fuel sav-ing feature that allows for

multiple idle rates, there-by reducing fuel con-sumption while operatorsare waiting for the nexttruck to load or task to becompleted,” said Mar-ringa. “As an additionalbenefit to the Case wheelloader customer, Auto-matic Machine Protectionrecognizes a critical prob-lem with the hydraulics, engine or transmission, and shuts down the en-gine as soon as the ma-chine stops moving.”

The Case 521F wheelloader delivers class lead-ing comfort and visibilityand new features to im-prove operator effective-ness. ike Merner’s composting journeyhas been a circuitous one. He waseducated at the University of RhodeIsland, where he studied agricul-ture at a time when society’s think-ing was “better living throughchemistry.” Mike became veryknowledgeable about chemical pest

control and crop yield increases, skills that he put touse in his landscaping business. He soon became dis-illusioned, however, when he began to see the damagethat many of these practices were doing to soil health.

As he looked for a better solution to the problem,Merner turned to Rodale’s Organic Gardening as away to re-educate himself. He planted an organic

vegetable garden for personal use. In the 1970s, hebegan composting for his own use as well. Along theway, he was troubled because at home, he was prac-ticing organic gardening, organic lawn care, andworking to improve his own soil’s health, while at hislandscaping business, he was still using the currentchemical products for dealing with pest and weedcontrol.

Feeling hypocritical, he turned to his own compostfor soil nutrition and microbial activity. Merner main-tains, “All we have to do to raise healthy plants andanimals is to return nutrients to the earth with wellmade compost.”

At that time, organics were just beginning to gainattention in Rhode Island; so as a result, Merner

became an important part of the movement’s growth. He was one of the founders of the Rhode Islandchapter of the Northeast Organic FarmingAssociation (NOFA). In the 1980’s, he was a part ofthe first group of Rhode Island farmers to beawarded organic certification.

Since that time, almost 30 years, Earth Care Farmhas been synonymous with high quality organics inRhode Island. The farm’s famous compost attractsgardeners and lawn care people from across RhodeIsland, Massachusetts and Connecticut. Additionally, his operation specializes in custom raised beef andpork, pick your own strawberries, raspberries andrhubarb. In the past few years, the farm has offeredapples, peaches, cherries and pears.

Managing such a variety of products on a relativelysmall piece of land can be challenging. Mernerhandles it with the help of his Kubota LA724. He usesthe mower and harrow attachments to establish andmaintain his perennial crops. Most of the time how-ever, the tractor’s front bucket is in highest demand.Merner likes to use it to load pickup trucks with thefarm’s most popular product: compost.

The composting process at Earth Care Farm islengthy and requires careful management. The firststep is acquiring the raw materials. Manure from thefarm’s livestock starts the process. Fish gurry, aby-product of the state is fishing industry, andshellfish make up a significant portion of the nitrogenrequirement for Earth Care Farm’s compost as well.Merner used to receive gurry daily from the anglers atnearby Galilee. The state’s regulations changed, severely limiting the catch for local fishermen, so hisfish products now come from Quonset, RI and as faraway as New Bedford, MA.

A large percentage of the carbon materials for thecompost comes from municipal waste such as leaves, wood chips, etc. As a way to reduce the odors thatcome from the composting process, Merner hasweighted the compost’s carbon-to-nitrogen ratioheavily towards carbon. As a result, it takes aboutone year for the final product to be ready.

Merner says that farm manager, John Buth, turnsthe piles 5-6 times per week with a Hyundai HL 760-9a, a 4-cubic-yard articulated wheel loader. Usuallythe farm operates two wheel loaders but for now, theyhave four. The reason is economic.

For years, Merner purchased Daewoo (and thenDoosan) loaders, trading in the older models againstthe purchase price of the newer ones. This year whenhe started looking for new equipment, Kahn Tractor

& Equipment in North Franklin, CT gave him an offerhe couldn’t refuse on two clearance Hyundai units.Merner is now entertaining offers for the 2005Daewoo (complete with a brand new Tier 4 engine)and 2008 Doosan.

A change in marketingOver the years, the quality of the products at Earth

Care Farm has remained the same. The labeling hasnot. A couple years ago, Merner voluntarily pulled hisorganic certification because of philosophical differ-ences with the direction “organics” is headed. Thisaction adversely affected the organic farmers inMassachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut whorelied on his compost. They preferred his gurry andshellfish based mixture to the municipal mixes thatare sold in the area. Since Merner’s label change, those customers only have access to municipal wastecompost unless they travel to northern New Englandfor an organic alternative.

Accordingly, by dropping his organic affiliation,Merner has seen a large shift in his customer base.Organic farmers are no longer able to use his productwithout sacrificing their own certification. The econo-my has exacerbated the changes.

Merner observes, “We thought we’d be immune tothe recession, but our customers weren’t.”Landscapers were once Merner’s largest clientele. Asthe economy struggled, the volume of compost pur-chased by landscapers decreased. In the place ofthese commercial clients, have arisen “the garden-ers,” a customer group of community gardens, church gardens, and home gardens, the vast majori-ty lining up to purchase Earth Care Farm compost.

Merner feels there is still great, untapped potentialfor compost. He believes there are significantamounts of uncomposted carbonaceous materialswaiting to be turned into food for the earth. He tellsthe story of going to an event in a LEED certifiedbuilding and noticing that the meal was served oncompostable plates. When he asked where thecomposting bins were located he was informed, “Oh,we just put them in the trash.”

The irony was not lost on Merner. The mission ofEarth Care Farm is to “joyfully help bring out the bestand highest health from within the earth byconsciously returning the best to the earth.” He seescomposting as a critical component of that mission.Perhaps in time more will do the same.

Kahn Tractor was first known as Manning FarmSupply, an agricultural supply center, established in1948. Jim Kahn bought the business in 1961 andchanged the name to Kahn Tractor & Equipment,Inc. At that time, the market area of North Franklin,Connecticut, was dominated by agriculture, our cus-tomer base consisted mostly of farmers and we pri-marily sold farm equipment.

By 1984, the area saw a shift toward constructionand industrialization. In order to meet the growingdemand for construction machinery, Kahn’s took onheavy construction equipment and made severalchanges to our facilities to accommodate servicingthe larger equipment. Our parts department expand-ed to accommodate increased inventory and to add ahardware store. Rental services were added to fur-ther accommodate our customers.

Over the past 48 years, we have seen manychanges and have continued to grow to accommo-date the area’s needs. We currently carry a full line ofCub Cadet and Kubota lawn and garden tractors tomeet the needs of every homeowner. For customerswith larger lawns or small hobby farms, we have sev-eral models of Kubota and New Holland compacttractors. There are a wide range of mowers, post holediggers, blades and accessories available to fit thecompact tractors. There are currently several differ-ent model RTV’s on display in our showroom.

We continue to carry a full line of agricultural

equipment including tractors, round and squarebalers, manure spreaders, choppers and tedders. Weare the area hay experts!

For our landscape contractors, we have a widerange of landscape and nursery equipment. Both ourlandscape customers and homeowners will appreci-ate our Stihl display. It is located in our parts roomand includes many models of chainsaws, blowersand accessories. We also carry wood splitters andchippers.

To meet the larger equipment needs of many con-tractors in the area, we carry Hyundai, New Hollandand Kubota equipment. These include excavators,mini-excavators, skid steers, tractors, loaders andbackhoes. To move this equipment around there areseveral models and sizes of trailers in stock includingInterstate, Bri-Mar and Pequea.

Despite all of the changes and growth that haveoccurred over the years, the one thing that hasremained unchanged is our commitment to our cus-tomers. By preserving our relationship with our cus-tomers, we continue to be able to provide qualityequipment sales, parts and service. Stop in and letus know how we can help you!

Superior Industries,North America’s onlycombination manufactur-er of conveyor systemsand their related acces-sories, says its engineerscut major setup time re-quired to transition aswing axle TeleStackerconveyor from transportto radial positions. Thenew swing axle XTPTeleStacker conveyorshifts from road to radialmode in just five to tenminutes. That is com-pared to 45 to 60 minutesfor the original model, adesign still common tocompetitive swing axletelescopic conveyors.

Three key design fea-tures characterize thenext generation swingaxle XTP. First, to engagethe stacker’s power trav-el, chains and sprocketsare replaced with a pre-installed t-handle mecha-nism. While the chainand sprocket arrange-ment takes up to 30 min-utes to install, requiresmaintenance and can betricky to guard, the newpower travel system takesjust seconds to engageand needs no mainte-nance or guarding.

Secondly, the new axledesign requires fewer link

arms during both trans-port and operationalmodes. This modificationagain helps to reduce set-up time. Lastly, the addi-tion of a pivoting walkingbeam allows for truewheel alignment duringradial travel. Poor align-ment results in tire scuff-ing and can even cause aconveyor’s feed point toshift out of position.

ERIE, PA — Availablein seven models to handlea wide range of applica-tions, Eriez® Model1200T Series Metal De-tectors detect both fer-rous and nonferroustramp metal in magneticores, highly mineralizedproducts and food prod-ucts — even when con-veyed on steel cordedbelts. From detectingmedium and larger fer-rous and nonferrous par-ticles traveling at speedsup to 1200 fpm, to de-tecting small pieces ofmetal in wet conductiveproducts, Model 1200 Se-ries Metal Detectors pro-vide a solution.

The 1200 Series detec-tion system operates bymeasuring the change inreceived electromagneticsignal of material beingconveyed through the sen-sor area. Since the mag-netic properties of a mate-rial are completely inde-pendent of conductivity, both magnetic and non-magnetic tramp metals areconsistently detected.

The seven models inthe 1200 Series include:Model 1220, Model 1230,Model 1235, Model 1241,Model 1250 with E-1Control, Model 1250 withE-6 Control and Model1260. Each model hasvarying degrees of sensi-tivity, enabling users toselect a sensitivity levelfor their specific applica-tion needs.

The Model 1220 MetalDetector is an economicaldesign for applicationsrequiring detection ofbucket teeth and otherlarge damaging pieces offerrous and nonferrousmetals. It is prefabricatedto fit CEMA standardconveyors with beltwidths up to 48-inches,and the coil spacing canbe field adjusted up to

23.5-inches to handlemost standard applica-tion requirements.

The Model 1230 MetalDetector is engineered forinstallation on conveyorbelts carrying coal, min-erals, aggregates and oth-er bulk materials. It canbe tuned to ignore con-ductive or magnetic oressuch as magnetite andpyrite, even if they arecarried by high tension, steel corded belts with ripdetection loops, while stilldetecting small pieces oftramp metal.

The Model 1235 MetalDetector has the uniqueability to detect and dis-criminate between mag-netic and non-magnetictramp metals. Installingthe Model 1235 Metal De-tector with the magnetactivation circuit before aSuspended Electromag-net allows the 1235 tocontrol the magnet powerbased on the presence ofmagnetic tramp metal, which will enable thecustomer to conserve en-ergy and save money.

The Model 1241 MetalDetector is designed pri-marily for scanning wholelogs on conveyors orchutes for all types oftramp metal, magneticand non-magnetic, toprotect hogs and debark-ers. It is also ideal for ap-plications requiring largeopenings and high metalsensitivities.

The Model 1250 MetalDetector is the most sen-sitive metal detector of allthe Model 1200 Seriesunits. It is suited for in-stallation on conveyorbelts carrying coal, miner-als, aggregates and otherbulk materials. The Model1250 is available with twocontrols, E-1 and E-6.

The Model 1260 MetalDetector, designed to pre-vent conveyor belt dam-

age due to long rodspiercing the belt at trans-fer points or jamming thetransfer point, selectivelydetects long metal objectsof a given diameter andlength, as well as normaltramp metals greaterthan the rod diameter. Asis the case with the other1200 Series Metal Detec-tors, the Model 1260 isalso compatible with fab-

ric or steel corded con-veyor belts, and beltswith metal splices.
