Water is an example of matter

Water is made from hydrogen and oxygen.

It has three characteristics:

• Water does not smell. It is odorless

Water does not have colour. It is colourless

Water has no taste. It is tasteless.

Changes of state in water.

Water melts.

• Solid to water.

Liquid to solid.

• Water freezes

Liquid to vapour

• Water evaporates.

Vapour to liquid

• Water condensates.

A pure substance consists of only one component.

A mixture happens when we put two or more substances together.

There are two types of mixtures

Heterogeneous mixture

• We put two or more substances together but we can see them separately.

Homogeneous mixtures

• We can´t see each of them separately.

Waste

Waste is all the rubbish we throw away.

Organic waste.

• It is biodegradable. It comes from plants and animals.

Recycable waste.

Non- recyclable waste.
