INDUSTRIAL WATER USE IN

MURCIA

Construction of irrigation

The irrigation infrastructure existed in the Segura from Roman times to the present. The following defines some of the irrigation techniques used since ancient times in this basin:

AQUEDUCT

Channels with a high and constant inclination to the ground used to transport water over long distances.

“QANAT” o “BOQUERA”

Technique for underground water pipe connected to a set of suction wells.

IRRIGATION DITCH

Water pipe system operated by gravity, located at higher elevations than the irrigated areas. In the Region of Murcia are particularly important Acequias called Seniors, taking water directly from the dams. From these hierarchical networks are built irrigation channels of different orders that reach the last orchards, ditches called minor acequietas, canals and bracers ..

WEIR

Shallow reservoir water derived from the river into the ditches.

DAM

Large capacity reservoirs to retain water flows from permanent or temporary as the dry riverbed.

WHEEL

System water elevation through “cagilón” (ceramic instrument associated with the wells to transport water) to a pipeline for distribution to irrigation areas.

Wheel of HOYA OF DON GARCIA

WHEEL OF CANDELON

BIG

WHEEL

WHEEL LA ÑORICA

POND

Artificial systems water storage in order to provide the supply or irrigation system.

WATER MANAGEMENT

Water management in Spain sees this as a scarce natural resource, which must be regulated by a water planning in order to balance its agricultural, industrial and consumer products.

WATER USE IN THE HOME

97.5% of the planet's water is in the oceans and seas, it is not suitable for drinking, agriculture, and industry in general. The remaining 2.5% is fresh water and 0.26% of the total mass of water in the world is easily usable for human use.The average consumption of water per person per day in developed countries amounts to more than twice the strictly necessary.

MEASURES TO SAVE WATER AT

HOME

Attention to leaky faucets. A drop per second are thirty liters per day

Avoid leaving the tap unnecessarily

Replace or at least reduce the toilets for the benefit of the showers

YES NO

Fill dishwasher being used increasingly

YES NO

Filling the washing machine each time they are used

Do not use car washes manuals
