HUZZIE & HUZZIE: ATTORNEYS AT LAW Alijah Huzzie and Will Huzzie (no relation) are premier threats on both sides of the ball. Alijah Huzzie, a redshirt-freshman defensive back, led the team in interceptions with three during the spring campaign and has already accounted for 13 tackles and one forced fumble in two games. In his first full season as a starter, Huzzie finished fourth on the team in total tackles (42), while finishing second on the team in solo tackles with 24. Will Huzzie continues to put on a catching clinic each game, turning himself into a human highlight reel. The Georgia native tallied a pair of one-handed catches in the win over UVA Wise and led the team in receptions and receiving yards for the second consecutive game.

DULUTH DUOThere will be no trading this Duluth pair. Will Huzzie and Malik Murray both hail from Duluth, Ga. and both have been the driving force in the receiving game. The Duluth Duo have accounted for 16 of ETSU’s 30 receptions in addition to racking up 256 combined receiving yards - the Bucs have 409 yards total. Murray leads the team in receiving touchdowns with two, accounting for 110 receiving yards on six catches. Huzzie has totaled 10 receptions for 146 yards and one touchdown, but leads the team in most highlight-reel catches. Huzzie is only 188 receiving yards behind his total from the spring campaign.

HOLMES IS WHERE THE HEART IS Quay Holmes edged closer in the record books on Saturday for the Buccaneers. Holmes added 62 rushing yards on 16 carries in the win over UVA Wise. The 62-yard performance pulled Holmes (2,922) within nine yards of passing Brian Edwards (2,930), looking to become the second-leading rusher in ETSU history. During the 2021 spring campaign, Holmes racked up 640 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. The Georgia product turned in a season-high performance with 197 yards on the ground in the win against Western Carolina, the second-most rushing yards for Holmes, trailing only his program-record 255 yard performance against Mercer in 2019. The 2019 year was a career-year for the redshirt-junior tailback. Holmes appeared in all 12 games with eight starts on the season, rushing for 1,143 yards on the year behind 206 carries. His 1,143 yards on the ground notched the fourth-most rushing yards in a single season by an ETSU back. Holmes is currently third all-time in rushing yards (2,922), fourth in scoring (198) and sixth in kickoff return yardage (1,300).

SAY IT AIN’T SO The Bucs are blessed with a dynamic backfield that features Quay Holmes and adds prominent pieces such as Jacob Saylors, Bryson Irby, DJ Twitty and Trey Foster. When Holmes isn’t punching the ball up the middle, you can find one of the other featured backs filling the shoes in nicely. That is exactly what Jacob Saylors did on Saturday against the Cavaliers. The Tennessee product led the Bucs in rushing yards with 75 on just six carries. Saylors added a 16-yard touchdown run to his stat line. The junior back was not done there as he also added a career-high 75 yards in the receiving game on just three receptions, inlcuding a career-long 64-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Rid-dell. To top it all off, Saylors chipped in for 23 kick-return yards on one attempt, finish-ing the game with the third-most all-purpose yards in his career with 173 all-purpose yards. The performance by Saylors earned him his first-ever SoCon Offensive Player of the Week honor. Currently, Saylors ranks first in program history in average yards per carry at 6.3 - 0.7 yards per carry more than Bob Hardy (5.6).

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE FLAVOR OF TURNOVERETSU has been disruptive to opposing offenses in the first two weeks of competition. In the Bucs’ season opener, the Blue & Gold forced three turnovers while the offense didn’t give the ball away once. ETSU successfully picked off the Commodores twice and scooped up a fumble and returned it to the house, accounting for all three turnovers. The Bucs would have had two defensive touchdowns if it were not for a questionable unsportsmanlike penalty. The Bucs added two more interceptions in the win over the Cavaliers, with Tyree Robinson running one back to the three-yard line and Jalen Porter securing his first collegiate pick. Heading into the third week of the season, ETSU currently ranks 7th in turnover margin and 17th in turnovers gained. ETSU accounted for eight turnovers in the spring season and 11 turnovers in 2019 (last full season). The Bucs are already five turnovers in through the first two outings.

NATIONAL ATTENTIONETSU entered the season receiving votes in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 poll and successfully jumped into the rankings following the win over Vanderbilt. After improving to 2-0 on the season, ETSU enters the weekend showdown as the 16th-ranked team in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 rankings, in addition to jumping two spots into 17th in the AFCA Coaches Poll.

KICKING IT WITH KELTNERThe sophomore kicker has made a name for himself since donning the Buccaneer uniform. In the spring season, Keltner laced a 54-yard program-record field goal in the win over Western Carolina. Through the first two games, Keltner is 4-of-5 in field goal attempts and is a perfect 8-for-8 in PATs. Keltner accounted for 11 points in the season-open-ing win over the Commodores and added nine more points in the win over the Cavaliers. With the field goal against UVA Wise, Keltner is now solo fifth all-time in career field goals made with 25. In addition, Keltner jumped into solo sixth in career PATs with a perfect 50-for-50 mark and has 125 career points.

WE DARE YOU The Bucs have registered 23 games with at least two turnovers since restarting the program in 2015 – ETSU is 17-6 in those contests. ETSU added a second consecutive game to that tally on Saturday after forcing two turnovers against UVA Wise. Tyree Robinson and Jalen Porter accounted for the two turnovers against the Cavaliers. Through the first two games of action, the Bucs have posted a stifling defense - ranking 10th in rush defense (62.0), 11th in pass defense efficiency (96.85), 6th in scoring defense (8.5), 7th in turnover margin (+2.0), 17th in turnovers gained (5) and 8th in redzone defense (.500).

SWATTING THE HORNETSDelaware State enters the weekend with a 1-1 record on the season, having defeated Bowie State (32-24) in the season opener before falling to Georgetown in overtime last weekend, 20-14. The Hornets are led by Sy’veon Wilkerson who has rushed for 190 yards on 45 carries and four touchdowns. Tylik Bethea has led the attack in the passing game with 227 yards and one touchdown, posting a 24-of-42 mark on the year. Kamari Jackson leads the defense in overall tackles (16), while Ronald Holmes seems to be the anchor in the unit with nine tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks. Delaware State has not won a non-conference FCS game since defeating VMI in 2012 by the final score of 17-10. Under the direction of Coach Milstead, the Hornets are 8-22 since he has taken over the program in 2018. This will be the first-ever meeting between the Bucs and the Hornets. ETSU is 0-1 all-time against opponents in the MEAC - dropping a 38-13 decision to former MEAC member North Carolina A&T on Oct. 19, 1991.

THE COMFORT OF GREENEThe Bucs boast a .680 winning percentage when playing games in the friendly confines of William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium. Now in its fifth season of existence, Greene Stadium has held 15 wins for the Blue & Gold, while yielding just seven losses. The Bucs are off to a 1-0 start on their home turf to open the 2021 fall campaign. ETSU finished 4-2 inside Greene Stadium in its first season in 2017, following that season up with a 5-1 home mark in 2018. ETSU finished 3-3 at home in 2019 with wins over Shorter, Austin Peay and Mercer for the only three wins of the season for the Bucs. The Bucs competed in three games inside Greene Stadium during the 2021 spring season. During that three-game span, ETSU finished with a 2-1 record. In the 22 games played inside its home, ETSU is outscoring the opposition, 617-452, holding its foes to 20.5 points per contest. The Buccaneer defense is limiting opponents to 318.4 yards per game (7,004 total yards).

BUCS FLOCK TO WILLIAM B. GREENE, JR. STADIUMIn 2018, over 50,000 fans walked through the gates inside William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium (8,436 average). In 2019, the Bucs topped that mark as ETSU saw a grand total of 51,152 (8,525) people walk through the gates to cheer on the squad. The 51,152 attendees marked a Greene Stadium record for attendees in a single season. In its first three seasons, ETSU totaled 149,821 fans in its 18 home games inside the new stadium (8,323 average). The Bucs had capacity restrictions in the spring but rebounded with a record-setting crowd of 9,720 fans in the home opener on Saturday. Over-all, ETSU has posted 14 sellout crowds in the 22 home games (19 possible chances). ETSU led all FCS in stadium percentage capacity in 2018 at 109.65. ETSU sold out five of its six home games in 2019. Two of the three sellouts rank among the top five in single-game attendance in Greene Stadium history, with the crowd of 9,350 against Austin Peay on Sept. 21 ranking as the third-largest crowd in stadium history. In 2019, the Bucs ranked second in FCS in stadium percentage capacity at 110.80, a new Greene Stadium record.

ON THIS DATE IN HISTORY - WORLD EDITIONWe pick up this week’s edition of “On This Date” in the entertainment realm in 1851 when the New York Times begins its publications, selling at two cents a copy. Fast forward exactly 100 years, A Streecar Named Desire is released to the world. In 1964, the Addams Family mades its television debut on ABC. Switching gears to the United States a whole, Sept. 18, 1947 was a big day in American history with: the Central Intelligence Agency officially establishing in July thanks to President Truman; the U.S. Department of Defense begins its first day of operations; and finally the U.S. Air Force is created as a separate military service by the passing of the National Security Act. The year 2001 was a tough year and on Sept. 18, 2001 (just one week after 9/11) the first mailing of anthrax begins in the 2001 anthrax attacks. Finally switching gears to sports, on this day in 1848 it was passed that first basemen can tag the base instead of having to tag the runner to record the out. On Sept. 18, 1990, Atlanta was chosed to host the 1996 (centennial) Summer Olympics! On this date in 1991, our friends over in Knoxville were hit with a two-year probation from the NCAA following recruiting violations. The final on this date in history is found in 1997 when Seve Ballesteros and Nick Faldo were elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame.

ON THIS DATE IN HISTORY - ETSU EDITIONThe Bucs have only played four games on this date in program history, compiling an even .500 record at 2-2. ETSU dropped its only home game on this date in 1971, falling to Appalachian State (28-24). The final three games on this date were on the road with the Bucs dropping a 30-0 decision at East Carolina (1982) before rebounding for a pair of wins at VMI in 1993 (10-7) and 1999 (26-17). The Blue & Gold are being outscored 82-60 on this date in history.

IT’S A COMPETITIONWith Tyler Riddell playing well and Brock Landis healthy again, there is another competition at quarterback! Riddell is off to a strong start with 336 passing yards and three touchdowns early in the season. Landis returned to action on Saturday against UVA Wise, finishing 4-of-8 with 73 yards and one touchdown.

NOW THE MAYOR OF NASHVILLETyler “The Mayor” Riddell earned the starting spot behind the center for the opening game at Vanderbilt. The self-dubbed “Mayor of Tampa” did not disappoint in the season opener as he orchestrated one of the largest-scale wins in program history. The newly dubbed “Mayor of Nashville” finished the game with 135 passing yards on 13 completions with one touchdown and zero mistakes. During his career, Riddell has appeared in nine games with five starts. The Florida product holds a career mark of 93-of-155 for 1,104 yards and seven touchdowns. Riddell is 4-1 as a starter.

PRESEASON RECOGNITION The fall season is upon us, which means the preseason All-American honors have been dished out. Four Buccaneers captured seven All-American spots, led by Quay Holmes, Tyree Robinson and Tre’mond Shorts with two apiece. Holmes and Shorts were named to the Stats Perform and Phil Steele All-American squads, while Robinson earned spots on both the Stats Perform and HERO Sports All-American teams. Jared Folks rounds out the honorees with an appearance on the Phil Steele Preseason All-American team.

T0 30 AND BEYOND…ETSU is 9-1 when scoring at least 30 points since restarting the program in 2015 … ETSU had won its last 14 games when scoring at least 30 points prior to the setback at Furman on Sept. 30, 2017. The Bucs have won five consecutive games when scoring 30 or more points, including Saturday’s 45-14 win over UVA Wise.

RED ZONE SUCCESSSince the start of the 2016 season, ETSU is 148-of-173 (85.5%) in red zone scoring ... The Bucs have scored 834 points during these 173 trips (97 TDs/51 FGs). ETSU is 9-of-10 to begin the 2021 season with 51 points scored - 6 touchdowns & 3 field goals

ETSU put an end to a three-game losing skid against the Bulldogs in the spring, defeating Samford in the season opener by the final score of 24-17 in Johnson City ... The Bulldogs finished the remainder of the season 3-3 in the final six games, making a switch at quarterback after the season opener ... Liam Welch took over for the final six games, finishing with 2,242 passing yards and 12 touchdowns to lead the SoCon ... The

outbreak led to Welch earning SoCon Offensive Player of the Year ... The Bucs will make the trip to Birmingham, Ala. this season for ETSU’s SoCon Opener.

The big question mark heading into this season will be the Mocs from Chattanooga ... Poised with a lot of talent, Chattanooga opted out of the spring season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, competing in four spring games with a 3-1 record ... The Mocs nearly defeated FBS opponent

Western Kentucky (13-10) in the fall schedule ... Chattanooga welcomes back SoCon Freshman of the Year (2019) Ailym Ford who rushed for over 1,000 yards and had nine touchdowns in his true freshman campaign ... ETSU is 19-23-1 all-time against the Mocs, including 2-3 in the last

five outings ... The Bucs and Mocs did not compete in the Rail Rivalry in the spring.

ETSU will look to put history behind them in Greenville, S.C. as the Bucs are just 2-16 against the Paladins on the road ... The Bucs suffered a narrow 17-13 loss to Furman last spring, marking one of two losses all season for ETSU ... Furman finished 3-4 during the shortened season and will bring

back the double-headed monster of Devin Wynn and Devin Abrams ... The Paladins have claimed eight of the last 10 matchups against ETSU, meanwhile the Bucs last win in Greenville was in 1997 ... The last three contests between the two foes have a combined 13 point differential.

The Bucs earned a pivotal win against the Keydets in the spring campaign, knocking off No. 10 VMI by the final score of 24-20 in Lexington, Va. ... The Keydets finished the year 6-2, earning the league’s automatic bid into the FCS Playoffs for the first time since 1977 ... VMI dropped

a nail-biting 31-24 decision to James Madison in the first round of the playoffs ... The Keydets were led by Seth Morgan (replacing the injured Reece Udinski) and he did not miss a beat, finishing the year with 1,374 passing yards and 10 touchdowns ... ETSU is 16-10 all-time against the

Keydets.

The game that will be circled on every ETSU fan’s calendar ... The Bucs dropped a heartbreaking season finale at Mercer on April 10, knocking the Bucs out of the race for the regular-season SoCon title ... ETSU ended its three-game winning streak against the Bears as its playoff hopes

faded away ... The Bucs will be playing with a chip on their shoulder as Mercer comes into town for Senior Day ... The Bears finished the season with a 5-6 overall record, including 5-3 in league play ... Mercer showed real promise down the stretch, winning four of the last five games of

the season.

The Blue Ridge Border Battle heads back to Cullowhee, N.C. this fall as the Bucs will travel with the trophy in hand ... Greene Stadium (9,720)

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 11, 2021) – ETSU football opened the 2021 home slate with a bang, dominating UVA Wise in a 45-14 rout in front of a record-setting crowd at William B. Greene, Jr. Sta-dium. The Bucs lit up the scoreboard in front of a raucous crowd of 9,720 occupants. With the win, the Bucs improve to 2-0 to begin the season for just the second time since the return of football in 2015.

ETSU did not suffer the “big-win hangover” from the Vanderbilt victory, owning all facets of the game for the second consecutive week. The Bucs accounted for 528 yards of offense, including 274 yards in the air.

The Buccaneer offense shined in game two, led by junior tailback Jacob Saylors (Jasper, Tenn.) who finished the game with 173 all-purpose yards. Saylors accounted for 75 rushing yards and 75 receiving yards with two touchdowns to his credit. The Buccaneer ground attack finished the game with 254 yards as four different running backs finished with over 40 yards apiece. Bryson Irby (Douglasville, Ga.) and Trey Foster (Knoxville, Tenn.) saw significant action in the game, combining for 18 carries and 87 yards.

ETSU overcame a sluggish start thanks to a 64-yard connection between Tyler Riddell (Tampa, Fla.) and Saylors that pushed ETSU to a 14-0 lead, beginning the steamroll of the offense.

The Buccaneer defense continued to flex its muscles with 61 total tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles. Tyree Robinson (Gainesville, Ga.) put the Bucs in position to score the game’s first touchdown with a 22-yard interception return to the UVA Wise 3-yard line, with Quay Holmes (Powder Springs, Ga.) punching the ball into the endzone on the very next play. Mike Price (Stockbridge, Ga.) continued the intensity for the Bucs with a game-high 10 tackles.

Randy Sanders was named ETSU football head coach on Dec. 17, 2017, becom-ing the 18th head coach in program history.

Following the 2021 spring season, Sanders is now 15-15 at the helm of the Bucs following a shortened 4-2 season featuring a young ETSU squad. The Bucs competed in just six games due to the COVID-19 pandemic, narrowly missing the FCS playoffs as ETSU was the first team out of the seedings. The Blue & Gold earned a critical win over then-ranked No. 10 VMI, defeating the Keydets by the final score of 24-20 in Lexington, Va. Coach Sanders helped guide his squad to earning 22 postseason SoCon accolades, including the Defensive Player of the Year in Jared Folks and the Jacobs Blocking Award winner in Tre’mond Shorts.

The spring 2021 season came off the heels of the 2019 campaign in which ETSU finished 3-9 on the year. The Bucs picked up a marquee win over Austin Peay (20-14), defeating a team that would go on to make a deep run in the FCS playoffs. Coach Sanders coached 12 All-SoCon honorees in his second season with the program. Despite the record, the Bucs posted the 10th-best offense in a single season in program history (4,030), while also averaging the sixth most yards per play (5.43).

In his first season with the Blue & Gold, Sanders guided the Bucs to a share of the 2018 Southern Conference Championship in just his first season at the helm of the program. Under the direction of Sanders, the Bucs finished 8-4 in 2018, earning the program’s second-ever trip to the FCS playoffs. The eight wins were the most by a first-year head coach in Buccaneer history and the third-most in a single season in school history. Coach Sanders was labeled the SoCon Coach of the Year and was named a finalist for the STATS FCS Eddie Robinson Award, while also coaching 13 players to All-SoCon teams and 19 All-American accolades in 2018.

Prior to his arrival in Johnson City, Sanders enjoyed one of the most successful five-year stretches in Florida State history. From 2013-17, Florida State totaled 53 wins, two ACC titles, won the 2013 National Championship and he coached a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback. In his first year at Florida State, Sanders led Jameis Winston to become the youngest players to win a Heisman Trophy in 2013, the same season he also led the Seminoles to a 14-0 record and a national championship. In 2013, Florida State set the national record for points in a season with 723, led the nation with a passing efficiency mark of 174.69, and set both school and ACC marks with 7,267 yards of total offense, 51.6 points per

game, 94 touchdowns, and 7.67 yards per play. Winston set the national record for touchdown passes by a freshman with 40, had seven 300-yard games and 11 consecutive games scoring 40-plus points.

After the 2014 season, where Florida State started the year 13-0 and earned a spot in the inaugural College Football Playoff, Winston became the first Semi-nole player to be taken No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft. Despite losing nearly all of their offensive production to the NFL draft in 2015, Sanders’ offense remained atop the ACC in offense the next year as Dalvin Cook set school records in rushing (1,691) and all-purpose yards (1,935) on his way to earning All-American honors. In 2017, Cook was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings.

Sanders coached in the SEC prior to his stint in the ACC as he served as the Quarterbacks Coach at Kentucky before taking over as offensive coordinator from 2009-12. In Lexington, Sanders developed Andre’ Woodson into one of the top quarterbacks in the nation. Woodson led the SEC in passing yards, total offense and touchdown passes, including a SEC record 40 in 2007. Woodson went on to be drafted by the New York Giants. During Sanders’ tenure, Kentucky won three straight bowl games for the first time in school history.

Sanders, who played collegiately at Tennessee from 1984-88, began his coaching career at Tennessee in 1989, and during the 17 years at his alma mater, the Vols compiled a record of 162-46-2 (.776). Over his run in Knoxville, Tennessee won four SEC championships and six Eastern Division crowns in addition to its national title. The Vols played in bowl games his first 16 seasons, including four Citrus Bowls, three Fiesta Bowls, three Cotton Bowls, two Peach Bowls, and one each in the Sugar, Orange, Hall of Fame and Gator bowls.

Sanders started his coaching career as the Vols’ quarterbacks coach in 1989 and 1990 under head coach Johnny Majors. The Morristown, Tenn. native became a full-time assistant coach in 1991, where he worked with the wide receivers, while Phillip Fulmer named Sanders the recruiting coordinator and running backs coach in 1993. Sanders remained in that role until 1998 when he took over as Tennessee’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Sanders, a Morristown, Tenn. was the offensive coordinator when Tennessee won the 1998 BCS National Title. Sanders played a part in either coaching or recruiting a pair of No. 1 overall picks in the NFL Draft – Peyton Manning (1998) and Jameis Winston (2015). In his 29 years of coaching, Sanders has coached in 26 bowl games and his teams hold a combined record of 258-105-2.

Sanders and his wife, Cathy, have two daughters, Kelly and Kari.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT COACH RANDY SANDERS…Phillip Fulmer – Tennessee Athletic Director and College Hall of Fame head coachRandy Sanders is as good a coach as I worked with during my 40 years of coaching. He is smart, tough, a great game planner, and at his best calling plays on game day. Randy is excellent at identifying and recruiting talent. He and Cathy are wonderful people and the people of East Tennessee will enjoy having them back home.

Peyton Manning – Former Tennessee Quarterback and Future NFL Hall of FamerCoach Sanders was a strong early influence on me as a prospect and as a player in my years at Tennessee. With his football knowledge and abilities as a recruiter and leader, ETSU has a bright future both on and off the field.

Jameis Winston – Tampa Bay Buccaneers QuarterbackCoach Sanders work ethic, humility and preparation was a huge part to my success as a player. He never got too high or too low. His ability to stay calm and confident helped me tremendously at the quarterback position, but it also helped me grow as a young man. I’m am so thankful that I had a coach that was able to lead and coach me into a player that understood I must take advantage of every opportunity.

Mike Smith – Tampa Bay Buccaneers Defensive Coordinator and former ETSU playerRandy Sanders is a highly respected coach and an outstanding fit for ETSU. I look forward to supporting him and celebrating championship-level success in the future. Go Bucs!

GAME #1 • Sept. 4, 2021 • Nashville, Tenn.ETSU ...................................................................................................... 23Vanderbilt ............................................................................................... 3

Vanderbilt Stadium

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 4, 2021) – The ETSU Football team treated Nashville, Tenn. to a show on Saturday night with a monu-mental win over Southeastern Conference foe, Vanderbilt. The Bucs toppled the Commodores in front of their home crowd by the final score of 23-3 to improve to 1-0 on the young season, while dropping Vanderbilt to 0-1 to begin the Clark Lea era.

The question of if playing in the spring would hinder or help the Buccaneers was answered at Vanderbilt Stadium. The Bucs were able to own the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball to force their way to the 20-point victory.

The Buccaneer defense stymied the SEC offense, despite being undersized. It was ETSU who proved to be the most physical of the two teams. After yielding a field goal midway through the first quarter, the Bucs held the Commodores scoreless for the remainder of the game, only allowing 318 yards of total offense. More impressively, ETSU forced three turnovers in the final quarter. Sophomore linebacker Stephen Scott (Greensboro, N.C.) turned one of those turnovers into six points with a 27-yard fumble recovery for the touchdown, proving to be one of the biggest plays of the game. Senior Karon Delince (Phenix City, Ala.) and freshman Sheldon Arnold (Loganville, Ga.) added one interception a piece in the win.

The Buccaneer offense kept pace with Vanderbilt and had the defense on their toes in the final three quarters. ETSU finished the game with 314 yards of offense, including 253 yards in the second and third quarters combined. ETSU outgained Vanderbilt 253-90 during that stretch, while also building a 13-3 lead heading into the final quarter. Tyler Riddell (Tampa, Fla.) rose to the occasion, connecting on some pivotal passes to newcomer Malik Murray (Duluth, Ga.) and the experienced Will Huzzie (Duluth, Ga.). Riddell found Murray for a 5-yard touchdown to put ETSU on the board and build the confidence on the visiting sideline. As always, Quay Holmes (Powder Springs, Ga.) lived up to his hype with 149 yards rushing on 23 carries.

With the clock winding down, the ETSU sideline and the Johnson City faithful that made the trip, erupted into a frenzy. The convincing win continued to put the FCS on the map as the Bucs stormed the field following their first Power-5 win since 1987.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:With the win, ETSU improves to 2-13 all-time against Power-5 opponents with their first victory since defeating N.C. State (29-14) in 1987 ... Following the victory, ETSU improves to 42-42-3 in season openers in program history, including 5-2 since the restart of the program ... ETSU delivered Vanderbilt its first-ever loss to an FCS opponent – while also marking the first FCS opponent to take down an SEC squad since The Citadel bested South Carolina (23-22) on Nov. 21, 2015 ... Quay Holmes finished the game with 149 yards rushing on 23 carries, now sitting only 71 yards shy of passing Brian Edwards for second all-time in program history ... Tyler Riddell finished the outing 13-of-22 for 135 yards and one touchdown – the 5-yard connection to Murray ... Murray burst onto the scene with three catches for 52 yards and one touchdown ... Will Huzzie led the Bucs in receptions with four for a team-high 62 yards ... The Bucs’ 20-point win is the largest of the six FCS wins over an FBS opponent to start this season ... ETSU sophomore kicker Tyler Keltner (Tallahassee, Fla.) was perfect on the night with three field goals, including a long of 41 – had his lone field goal attempt at Vander-bilt blocked in 2019 ... The Bucs won the turnover battle, forcing three turnovers compared to zero ETSU blunders – this is the first game since Vanderbilt (2019) that the Bucs did not turn the ball over ... ETSU turned the three turnovers into 10 points on the evening ... Karon Delince and Stephen Scott led the team in total tackles with 10 apiece ... Colton Lakes (Loveland, Ohio) and Jay Harrison (Quincy, Fla.) each recorded one sack in the win for the Bucs ... The Commodores paid the Bucs $415k for the Saturday showdown.
