Faith Formation

In our Gospel today, the apostles feel threatened and jealous when someone not in their company is casting out demons in the name of Jesus. They appeal to Jesus to make the man stop. However, much to their surprise,

Jesus says to let the man alone. Charitable works and good deeds are not just for the Apostles. When someone does a good deed in the name of Jesus they are “with us” not “against us”.

When we think about all that we are given in the Catholic Church we have great reason to give praise. We are blessed with wonderful Apostolic Tradition. We are blessed with 7 awesome sacraments. One of those sacraments we receive every week when we receive the body and blood of our savior. We are truly blessed.

However, we are not the only ones who are blessed. It is important to remember that good and Godly works can be performed by people who are not Catholic and not Christian. When that happens, these people are still “with us” and not “against us”. We are still family somehow.

~Fr. Chris

From the Pastor

The most valuable things on the

Journey

This is the 107th World Day of Migrants and Refugees. We have been pounded by images of desperate people searching for a better life recently, but we see from the previous 106 messages from the Popes this is not a new or unique problem. This year’s message from Pope Francis is titled, Towards an Ever Wider “We. Just as we pray the “Our Father” not my father, “the present time shows that this “we” willed by God is broken and fragmented, wounded and disfigured.” So what are we to do with such a huge problem? Ron Rolheiser in his reflection on this Sunday’s readings on the St. Louis University Sunday Web Site suggests, “What the world needs first of all from us, the churches, is comfort, help in lifting and understand-ing the world’s complexity…We will comfort the world when we show it that God sees the world’s heart with the eyes of the heart, that God feels for it more than it feels for itself…God descends into all the hells we create, stands inside our muddled, wounded, and guilty hearts and breathes out peace.”

Pope Francis ends his message with a call “to dream together, fearlessly, as a single human family, as sons and daughters of the same earth that is our common home, sisters and brothers all.” (cf. Fratelli Tutti, 8)

Today we meet in Room 12 of the school to “break open the word” and delve into the questions and insights that God is putting on our hearts. We meet from 9:15am-10:45am. Consider joining us. We will not meet on October 3rd or 10th but will resume on October 17. Contact me with any questions.

SUNDAY RELIGIOUS ED CLASSES Our 5th grade class last week connected Baptism to Moses freeing the Israelites from slavery in Exodus 14. They played a game of freeze tag, where, when they were frozen they felt like the Israelites felt when the Egyptian army was closing in on them, and when they were tagged and set free, if was like the freedom they felt when Moses parted the sea and the freedom we experience when we are set free from sin through Baptism.

St. Vincent de Paul Q3 Update 2021

Our St. Vincent de Paul Conference assists needy households located in the St. Albert area. Our Conference just completed its report for the third quarter of 2021. During this reporting period, the COVID-19 virus has continued to impact many of our neighbor’s lives. Vaccination and the opening of K-12 in-person classes have provided a means to return to work for many of our neighbors. However, moratoriums on evictions are lifting and we anticipate calls from neighbors with accumulated back rent and utility bills. Our conference is working with The Miami Valley Community Action Partnership (MVCAP) to bring Montgomery County grant funds to bear on these bills when possible. However, these grant funds often apply only in part to the complete relief needed. We continue to provide food, financial and other support through this crisis period. The following assistance was provided during the months of July, August and Sept.

Rent - $2,497 Food Assistance—$155 Utilities (gas, electricity, and water) - $4,467 Furniture and Appliances - $320 Support to Dayton conferences for extraordinary COVID

related needs - $2,370

Services are provided by our volunteers, and all activities are handled with complete confidentially. If someone you know needs assistance, please call the parish call line at 937-293-1191. Need is the only qualifying criterion.

This ministry is possible because of your continued financial support through the contributions of the St. Albert community. The contributions provided by parishioners as well as those from companies and other agencies are critical to our mission. YOU make all this possible - THANK YOU! Please consider donating using the parish envelope on 3 October or the Weshare system for payment.
