June 2016
WCCO Channel 4 has a regular news segment called “Good Question.” Viewers submit questions about a current topic or trend in the community and the news reporter then does his or her best to answer that question. What a great idea! Asking questions and looking for answers is the way that we learn. The same thing is true when it comes to our faith. We learn by asking questions. In Jesus’ interactions with people, he was asked many questions. People were trying to make sense of what Jesus was doing and how it fit into God’s work in the world. When I teach confirmation, the kids are full of questions. And I love it! They want to understand what it means to be a Christian in this world.
This summer I want to take that mentality congregation-wide. I’ve asked you to submit some of the lingering questions you have about God, the Bible and faith. And then each Sunday, I’m going to do my best to answer one of those questions. And then at the end of the summer, I’m hoping to do an “open mic” Q&A so that we can answer all of those questions that you didn’t get to ask or that we didn’t cover during this series. Here’s what I believe: a good question deserves a good answer. So, what are your questions? Pastor Josh

Our Sunday School year came to an end this month and boy, what a fun year it has been learning more about our faith and Jesus!
As we look forward to June, one big thing sticks out… VBS!!! We are so excited to have Camp Omega counselors help us lead our VBS this summer. Are you able to help out in some way? We are in need of youth (grade 6-12) helpers and adult volunteers to help with the preschool class and snack time. Talk to Leah to find out more information. And don’t forget to tell your family and friends about this fun, Jesus-filled, FREE week of VBS!
From the Director…
As our school year wraps up, our classes always enjoy a few field trips!
This year, the Tuesday/ Thursday classes visited Daily Bread Farm in Prescott, where they saw some animals and learned about growing crops.
Later in the month, our 4s class took a trip to Como Zoo to see the animals and understand more about the work of a zookeeper.
We are always so grateful for the opportunities to visit off-site locations, and for the support of parent chaperones on these trips – what fun learning opportunities for all!

Hastings Happening

At our preschool graduation the kids sing one of their favorites, “Lord, I Lift Your Name
on High.”
Here is a word game that's fun to play while you're waiting. Think of a long word or short phrase, then write down as many words as you can from the letters within the word. From the word "stewardship" you can make "ship", "draw", 'sew", and more. But that's only one way of looking at stewardship. Try thinking of it as a game some time, and see how many different ways you can "play" it. For food drives, besides donating canned goods, you could volunteer to take them to the local food pantry. To help Sunday School, perhaps you could help Mr. Bruce and Aaron and play the guitar or another instrument... or even cover the absence of a Sunday School teacher. You can pick an area of the church – lets says the kitchen... and organize the cupboards like you would at home. You see, stewardship takes on many different shapes and forms. To help our church reach more people you could look into ways to spread the word of the gospel and our church to others in the community. The possibilities are many, even if we’re not that big of a church. So the next time you have a minute, see if God will inspire you with some new way to give.
