Pan-Pagan Gathering 2013 – Sept. 27-29

This gathering is intended for fun, interaction and learning, in that order! A lot of us have fun sharing what we know and we *all* enjoy talking about it.

Dress for the weather! It can get damp and chilly, or hot and sunny. Anja will have weather forecasts on the blog for several days before. You might want to think about extras for specific activities. Being on the beach at night can get *awfully* cold if it’s windy, and you’ll want a thick blanket if you’re going to do the meditation on the beach, rain gear if the Fairy trek gets damp, etc.

We will be taking cars back and forth between Ancient Light and other locations between classes. Donations for gas costs would be much appreciated.

Please bring your own mug for liquids, a chair (if you have one that can be toted) and your own bedding if you’re staying over!

Some classes have minimums, so sign up in person on the bulletin board starting on 9/20. It’ll be first-come, first-served.

The book area at Ancient Light is being reserved for informal chat by the altar. Make use of it!

There is *no* overall fee for the event! Most classes/activities have a fee or ask for a donation, so read carefully, so’s not to be embarrassed. If a class says, “donation requested” but gives no amount put in $1 per in the teacher’s donation cans or some into the donation can for the overall event. This takes care of expenses like gas for teachers & shuttles, paper supplies for the feast and printing for classes. Some of the costs have been covered through sales of ads in this handbook. Please patronize these Advertisers!

Places to Eat

Hot & Cold Beverages will be available at Laura’s Studio, and at Ancient Light and bottled water and some cans of pop and juice at Ancient Light. Please chuck something into the donation can to defray costs! There is a specialty coffee place less than a block south of the shop and another at the south edge of the city. (find on the map at the shop)

Ancient Light has a microwave and tiny fridge. Laura’s Studio has a full kitchen. The full kitchen is being reserved for potluck use from 3pm Saturday on….Yes, you can heat your potluck contributions! Check with the feast organizer. Some food prep may happen at Anja’s, too, if we have an extra body to tend things.

Friday night we’ve made special arrangements with the China Restaurant. Pay $6.50 per person at Ancient Light to get a ticket to have your choice of a special full meal at the group rate. If you want something more or extra, please pay the China Restaurant directly. The special pricing will be good from 6pm-10pm.

…and of course we’re having a Potluck on Saturday. Please bring a dish with at least 10 servings. If you’re coming from out of town, or hate to cook, bring things that don’t need refrigeration such as desserts, cheeses, breads, soda pop or even juices or salads (non-mayo) that can be kept in coolers. Recording/Taping/Photos at the event

Unfortunately, the climate in our country is such that there are many pagans who must stay in the broom closet for one reason or another. “Outing” someone can cause great harm and grief.

There will be some video and tape recording and pictures going on at the event. I asked Carl Neal from Magick Moment to write up a little blurb about this.

“Magick Moment & The Pent O’Clock News are very sensitive to the fact that some Pagans are still forced to remain in “the broom closet” and cannot be seen attending Pagan events. We feel very sad that in America people still have to hide their religion, but we do know how important that is. As a result, we are quite careful about the people we record. We will never surprise people with a camera or record without permission. We are very obvious when we set up and will never be offended if someone asks us to leave them out of a shot.

If you would like to appear on Magick Moment or the Pent O’Clock News, we will either ask you to sign a release form or to be recorded saying that you agree. We are experimenting with ways to make it even easier for people to be recorded or to avoid being recorded. We also take care to blur the images of people who are seen in recordings but who did not sign a release – even if we think they won’t care. Only Pagans who give us permission will be shown on either of our series. When in doubt we blur you out!

If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to ask any of us – we are happy to help.”

This is going into the handbook so’s not to surprise anyone! We have a *lot* of folks who cannot attend the event who would love to see some of the panels and classes, plus there are a couple of teachers who want recordings of their efforts. BTW, the easiest way to not appear in anything like this is to sit *behind* the camera!

...and I'm asking those of you who bring your own cameras to respect this same set of criteria. At least get permission! Anja, Tempus and Ancient Light are giving blanket permission to anyone to take pix, but watch who is in the background, please!

…and if you’re the one with the issue. We’re going to have buttons for you. Ask!

On Tobacco use and Smoking – Several people on the staff and who are attending are very, very sensitive to tobacco smoke. There are also some folks, (in some cases the same people), who have breathing issues, who are attending or teaching. For the sake of these folks, in particular, we’re going to designate some smoking areas with butt cans that will be ready by the door to take out and back with you. …and please pay attention to wind direction and take a moment to air out after you have your smoke!

Those of us who have these issues are *very* grateful to those who help us continue to breathe!

At Ancient Light the smoking area is around the north side of the block. There is a nice awning there to ward off things from above. Laura’s Studio has a smoking area out the back door. She’ll show you where. Hopefully, there will be signs.



At Jeanne’s the smoking area is at the end of the driveway by the street. At Anja’s, please go down the street toward the cul-de-sac. Butt cans live by the garage door.At State Parks, please observe the park regulations. I believe those are to smoke only in the parking lots. Also, if the smokers could please take care of the dumping of the butt cans at the end of the event?

General info about spaces that will be used for the event

These are all private property. Please take care of these spaces (leaving them clean and tidy) so that we’ll be invited back!

1 – Ancient Light – Book area – This is where the event altar will be set up. Midnight Questions and the Drum Jam will be held in this area. There is a basket of tea lights on the altar. Please light a new one when the old one burns out to renew the intent. This space is to be used for informal chat for anyone/everyone. There are pillows and seats. Please make use of them!

2 – Ancient Light – Classroom – Several workshops and classes will be held here. The shop bathroom is behind this area and the shop library is here. If you pull out a book for use, please put it back. If you wish to take the book out of the building, please sign it out on the clipboard and then sign it back in. Hot beverages are located in the back of the classroom. Please be aware of classes/workshops in session.

3 – Ancient Light – Readings desk – Anyone who wishes to do a semi-private reading for someone may use this area. Please take turns. Kleenex, a clock and a first aid kit may be found in the desk.

4 – Laura’s Studio by the Bay – Kitchen – This space will be used for several workshops and the feast. Hot beverages are located on the corner counter. Please be aware of workshops/classes in session. Also be aware that quite a bit of cooking will be going on here before the potluck. If you go to use the stove/oven, check with the feast organizer.

5 – Laura’s Studio by the Bay – Main Studio – Larger classes and the panel discussions will take place here. The far end of the studio may be pressed into use in case of rain.

6 – Laura’s Studio by the Bay – Yard – Several classes will be held outside, here, including the Permaculture Workshop. The far end of the studio may be pressed into use in case of rain for these classes.

7 – In Dreams – Meditation Garden The garden is open from 9-6 all three days of the event. Please make use of it! There are sufficient spaces around the garden for individuals and small groups to spill all over.

8 – In Dreams – Yard – The Asatru Faining will be held here and possibly some classes, depending on the weather.

9 – In Dreams – Sun Room – Some small classes will be held here, probably spilling into the meditation garden if weather allows.

10 – A number of things are happening at Anja’s, mostly trips that are starting there and people are staying over, but this is a safe parking area to carpool from!

Parking Considerations

Parking is limited at the event venues. Please plan ahead and work out carpooling! You can see why, below!

Please be aware that some streets will be blocked off at times during the weekend because of the Cruzin’ for Crab festival that Waldport is holding!

If a number of people are staying in one space and would like to leave their cars there (The KOA, Alsi Resort or McKinley’s, for example) call Ancient Light (541)563-7154 and we’ll arrange a pick-up.



There are 5 spaces, tops, in front of Ancient Light on Friday, although on Saturday and Sunday we can spill over 5 more. There is plenty of parking in what used to be the grocery store parking lot across the street, a bunch of spaces on the north of the block and around to the east side of the block. If you’re going to be at the shop all day, please don’t leave your car in one of the close-in spaces. If you’re mobility limited, come in and let us know and we’ll shift it for you!

At Laura’s Studio by the Bay there are similar considerations. ½ a dozen cars can sit in the driveway, but the ones at the top end won’t get out for hours. There are also several spaces around to the east of the property. We’ll put up a parking sign there. Obviously car-pooling is a must!

At In Dreams, several cars can fit in the driveway, the rest will have to park on the street, where there is no shoulder and a drop-off….

At Anja’s there is plenty of on-street parking in a very quiet street. Please leave the driveway free for our personal vehicles.

In Waldport, please do not park in front of other (open) businesses to leave your vehicles all day! They will get really mad at us. Also, please don’t leave your vehicles in the Keady Wayside, behind the Bridge Interpretive Center or the Port Docks for more than a few hours. The best places are the ex-grocery-store lot, and along Starr Street, or the spaces around Ancient Light’s block.

Tickets are $1 each. Ask at the counter at Ancient Light and pay there for however many you want, fill them in and put them in the Raffle Can in the display.

Tickets and display will be up at Ancient Light by 9/20. Drawing will be 9/29 at 6pm. Do not need to be present to win. Stuff cannot be shipped, you have to make arrangements to get it picked up.



Workshop, Ritual and Class Information

Friday – September 27

8am - Registration (If you haven’t….) There are sign-up sheets on the bulletin board. Each has info on time & place for each class/workshop. Most of the rituals (the Newbie Ritual is the exception) and the general events do not have a sign-up. These will be up on the board starting on 9/20. Come in and sign up, because some classes have limited space! If you’re coming in from out of town, leave time to do this!!!!! We will stay open quite late on Thursday, just for the out-of-towners.

8-10am – Is a time to get to know others who are there. While folks are signing up, we’ll sit around at the shop and talk and take a breather before everything gets going.

10am - Opening Ritual and chat – We set up a small altar which is kept going during the entire event. Bring images, offerings or requests to place here. This is a good time to get to know some of the teachers and to check the maps.

11am – Classes begin

Elements - Faery Magicks – Anja – Laura’s Studio – Studio - By donation - Who are the Fae and how do we work with them? How do you meet some? Where do you find information?

Noon

Workshops - Making your own extracts – Anja - – Laura’s Studio –Kitchen - 10 max - $4Commercial flavor extracts are expensive and have weird chemicals and flavors. We'll be making extracts flavored with natural materials from vodka and brandy during this class. You'll have a chance to prepare all the materials and go through the process and will take home at least one. The fee covers the purchase of the alcohol. I'm sorry, but this class is adults only. Children can wait within sight....

1-2 PM - Lunch Break – Brown Bag or go out to eat. Suggested places in “Where to Eat” section. Please get to your next class on time!!!!

Elements - Wishing well Magicks – Anja – Laura’s Studio – Studio - By donation - Hasn’t everyone tossed a penny in a well or fountain? Ok, here’s how and why and some history of Sacred Wells.



Workshop - Cold Process Soap Making - Holly - Laura’s Studio - Kitchen - $5 - Learn how to make all natural soap from scratch from an experienced soap maker. Not only will you get to see a demonstration of safe soap making techniques, but will also get tips on how to customize your soap for mundane and magical purposes. You will also get to take home a bar and a recipe to get you started!

Workshop - Home Winemaking for Ritual Purposes - Tempus – Ancient Light Classroom – Donation - Basics of home winemaking. Why is homemade wine or beer superior for magickal purposes? A brief history of fermented beverages. Samples will be provided if the students wish. I'm sorry, but this class is adults only. Children can wait within sight....

Beyond Caring for Mother Earth – Darwinia – Laura’s Studio – Outdoors – Free - Most people are drawn to Paganism in all its forms, by a deep and abiding appreciation for the natural world and a desire to be closer to Mother Earth. At this time in history, this longing for closeness with nature is perfectly understandable – our culture has tried to remove us completely from it. However, loving the Mother is no longer enough. So much damage has been done to the planet as a whole, that it is up to those of us who profess our dedication to her, to try to restore and heal her before it is too late. This course will give you the resources to decide how best to heal your little corner of the world. It is the combined small actions of each of us that will bring true healing to the Great Mother and so save us all.

Elements - Fire Magicks – Anja - Ancient Light Classroom – Donation - Fire is one of the elements that we work with most. We will talk about the ways in which we call upon Fire in ritual and magick and some dos, don’ts and safety.

Elements - Stone Magicks, Geomancy – Tempus - Ancient Light Classroom – Donation -Effecting change through stability. Influencing natural power flows through organized mass and massive structures. Rock of Ages vs We Will Rock You.

Supper at the China Restaurant – Buy your Ticket at Ancient Light! We’ve talked to the China Restaurant across the street and he’s going to do a special for us that will be good from 6-10pm, Friday evening. If you sign up and pay $6.50 at Ancient Light, you’ll get a ticket to take across to the restaurant that will get you the special. Anything else, you’ll pay for there, ordering separately. What he has on the menu for us is the following which includes: tea, the daily soup (usually egg drop or hot and sour) and steamed rice. Ray uses no MSG and will give you options if there’s something that you can’t eat.

6-10pm Sumble, Drum Jam & Chat session - Sumble is a holy rite of Asatru. It consists of (usually) 3 rounds, first for the Gods (typically only Nordic gods), second round for the Ancestors (living or dead or someone that has greatly influenced you), last round is open for toasts, stories, song, and thanks. You can also toast gods or ancestors again in third round. Mead is often, and most commonly, used for the toasts. Your need ID to consume the alcoholic beverages. We’ll have non-alcoholic, as well.

Those who are not participating can have fun with the Drum Jam and Chat! Bring instruments (and the “whacky-thumper” basket will be set out.)

Elements - Air Magic and what it means for a Pagan to “Take a deep breath” – Tauriel, Ancient Light Classroom – no fee - We will be discussing the element of air and how to incorporate air magic into spells and everyday life.

Class - Finding Spirit Guides – Christina - Laura’s Studio – Studio – By donation - This class will be a introduction on how you can figure out what your spirit guide is. Is it a animal or a spirit of another person. I will guide you through the steps that you can use to help find out and how your spirit guide can help you.

Workshop - Charge of the Goddess – Anja – In Dreams, Sunroom- $3 (covers the handout) - I’ve been studying the Charge of the Goddess and the uses of this sacred writing for many years. It’s as important to Pagans/Wiccans as the Lord’s Prayer is to Christianity or the Om Mane Padme Hum mantra is to followers of many of the Eastern Paths. Well, go over a little of the history and development of the Charge, analyze the structure of it and then go over some of the many variations.

Activity - Agate Hunting – D.J. – Starts at Ancient Light - by donationCome and join me and let’s look for some little treasures together on the beach! All are welcome. Children under 12 need an adult chaperone. outdoors on the beach. Cups will be provided for your treasures or bring your own. - This workshop will be on the beach. We will be looking for agates, little shells or anything else that you may find appealing. So let's look together.

Activity - Beaver creek Hike – Marius – Meets at Ancient Light 3 hours - By donation - Just a chance to get out, and enjoy one of Oregon's Newest state Parks. Bring shoes, and clothing that can get wet, or muddy. Anybody who wants to do this can, but I can only take 4 people in my car. More can be accommodated with individual transport.

Elements - Dancing in the Flame – Candle Magick Workshop – Ancient Light, classroom - By Donation - Learn how to use candles as a powerful focusing tool for your work and intentions. We will discuss the basic theory behind candle magick and how to prepare your candles through cleansing, inscribing and anointing. Learn correspondences for the seven main colors of the rainbow and how they could be used in candle magick. Enjoy a short guided meditation, and then we will get crafty, as in you will get the opportunity to prepare a candle for a magickal purpose of your own.

Workshop - Portable Altars and Blessing Jars – Arrhiannon and WaterWizard - The participants would make “portable altars” that are made and kept in a small tin like an altoids tin and are easy to carry, and the participants get to decide what objects to put in the altar box. We will also make Blessing Jars with items that will represent different elements and characteristics to bring blessings to a home, placed by the door at the “New Year”.

Elements - Metal Magick - Tempus - Ancient Light, classroom – Donation - A brief intro on what makes a metal a metal. How the varying characteristics of some common metals make them more or less useful for various magical purposes. Why transmuting lead to gold would be pointless …and dangerous.

Secrets of the Body Revealed- Jessamina – In Dreams, Meditation Garden – 5-20 - Donations will go to Ancient Light to cover costs of handouts etc. - Have you ever wanted to know what the nose knows? Together we will be discovering the secret messages found in each of our bodies. This is a class on Basic Physiognomy and the long standing art of reading not only the palm but many different parts of the body. You will be given an overview and a class handout of basic body definitions.

Activity - Meditation on the Beach – Anja – Meet at Ancient Light – 6 people max – Donation – Meet at Ancient Light - We’ll take a trek to a local beach that has some wonderful energies for meditation, do a short guided meditation and then individually free-form. Anja will lead and keep an eye on folks and the time. You will need a jacket and a heavy blanket, as the wind sucks the heat out of meditators by the ocean! If it’s sunny, you’ll also need a sun-blocking hat. If it’s raining, we’ll get wet. Be prepared!

Elements - Living the Pagan Path Arrhianon & WaterWizard – Ancient Light, Classroom - Max 30 - I would like to present a workshop which would focus on what it means to be pagan and what pagans should and could do to lie in a



pagan lifestyle. We investigate what it means and attempt to define paganism, then talk about the ways pagans can work with Mother Earth, define pagan ethics and morals, and help to define what it means to live green whenever possible.

Class - What is Asatru – Alf – Laura’s Studio, studio - By Donation - A informational description of the practice of Asatru. We will cover the origins and history, then go into how Asatru is practiced today; what our ritual day entails, what exactly do we believe, and why. This discussion will also touch on the use of runes and rune magic, both integral elements of our way.

Class - The Salem Witch Trials – Christina - – In Dreams, Meditation Garden – By donation - This historical lecture will transport you back in time and let you know what it was really like during the Salem Witch Trials. Get to know the individuals who were put to death for Witchcraft and then you decide, Were they innocent or guilty?

Activity - Haunted Light house Trip. – Marius - Lighthouse - By donation to the Lighthouse - We’re going to tour the Yaquina Bay Light house. We'll talk about the two related ghost stories, some of the history behind the house. Bring your cameras, and heightened spidey senses. We'll meet at the Yaquina Bay lighthouse. It's on the north side of the Yaquina bay bridge in Newport on the west side of the highway. (see map)

Elements - Sea Magic: A guide to witchcrafting with elements from the ocean. – Holly – Free - Ancient Light, classroom - Sea Witches have long known that the ocean and seaside are rich with mystical energy. In this workshop we will explore ways to use seashells, driftwood, sea glass, sand, and other beach items for ritual and magical workings. Other topics include ocean themed tarot decks, runes, spells, and books.

Workshop - Herb Witchery! Making Magical Lotions and Potions – Amanda – Laura’s Studio, outside (or studio) 10-25 people2 hours2 or 3ish, Saturday or Sunday, depending on when my friend Angela is teaching her class, in case we have to bring our kids. Suggested donation of $13 for supplies. You will get to take home a 1 ounce container of the potion made that day. If you can't afford that, or if you just want to learn how and do it on your own (not taking any home), suggested donation of $5.Kitchen! Can be indoor or outdoor though.Just a sink and a stove. I can bring all the pots and pans and other accessories.Thanks!

Class - CUUPs in the West - Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans - Elan – Laura’s Studio, studio - Yes we are a Pagan group that is under the sheltering umbrella of a liberal religious organization (that's organization). How are we different than other Earth Based groups? What is the same? What are the up and down sides of being Earth Based in an organization where people from a variety of religions worship, work and play together?

Panel Discussion - Riding the Broom Behind Bars – Elan – Laura’s Studio, studio - A panel of Pagans who circle with our Brothers and Sisters Inside the the Oregon State Correctional Facilities will talk about the important work we do there. - Donations would be appreciated.

This will be a group of people that have spent time doing Wiccan Circle inside the Prisons in Oregon. We will discuss our individual experiences and talk about how our community on the outside can support us in our work. We will answer questions that people have for us.

What and how did you get started in this pursuit of your Religious affiliation? What is the most challenging part if your work and how do you cope with working with people who have

committed crimes that are against your morals and belief system (murder, child rape etc). How do you handle special requests? How do you handle rude or inconsiderate staff? How do you substitute when what you want/need is not being allowed? Who do you turn to for advice, solace, or just to dump? Are those the kinds of questions you had in mind? Are you not you afraid to go in to a men's prison and be left in a room with 10-40 dangerous men? Why are you putting your life in danger? Why do you think "Peace and Light" is going to work on a bunch of thugs? Are you not worried that if you teach them how to do spells they are going to misuse magic, and harm someone? What kind of men come to your Circle? How many come? Do the other men in the prison give the Wiccans a "hard time"?



Do the guards in the prison give the Wiccans a "hard time"? How can we help you/ what do you need? Why don't the pagans in Eastern Oregon do Circle over there, why do you have to drive over the mountains? How do you get along with the staff Chaplains and guards, do they give you and trouble?

6-10pm Potluck Feast – Laura’s Studio - Bring a dish to share! It can be as simple as stopping at the local grocery for something baked or a bag of salad, or get fancy and creative! We have a lot of plug-ins for crockpots and such, a large stove and a regular size oven and microwave to work with. There will be coffee, hot water for tea and other beverages. A couple of dishes will be made earlier in the day in workshops. Rozaylia is the person in charge.

8-10pm ritual – Esbat on the Beach come play with the Rose of the Sea as we explore the dark side of the moon. The ritual will be at the beach so be prepared to get a little wet, cold, and mucky. Afterwards will have something to warm everybody up at Ancient Light

9am Ritual - a traditional Asatru Faining – Alf – In Dreams, yard - By donation, to cover cost of mead, but not necessary - Traditional Asatru Faining/Blot/Blessing, in honor of the God(ess)__________ of the northern pantheon. Contribute your essence to the offering, and receive the blessing of the God in return. A faining is similar to the Blot, the name Blot being reserved for offerings of live animals. At the faining an offering of mead, together with the collective might and mane of the people present will be offered to a deity(s) of the Norse pantheon (yet to be determined which). The people present are then in turn blessed individually in a clockwise fashion. Prior to the ritual the area is hallowed with a hammer rite, creating a sacred space. I will speak of the deity being honored and perform an invocation, inviting them into our circle.

Elements - Introduction to Shapeshifting and Animal Dance – Lupa – Laura’s Studio, studio - donations appreciated – Shapeshifting! The word conjures images of werewolves, and shamans changing into animals. We can't physically change ourselves, but we can learn to take on the energy and perception of nonhuman animals for a time through dance. Lupa has been doing intensive shapeshifting dance since 2002, and this workshop deals with what you'll need, how to determine what animal(s) to dance, and how to achieve the right state of mind to shift.

Workshop - Herb ID – Anja - By donation – Ancient Light, classroom – I’ve had to change the circumstances of this one. This is now an in-classroom workshop on the methods for identifying herbs and a bit about herb basics for beginners, going more advanced if we have the people for it.

Workshop - Roll Your Own – Making Magick Incense, Carl Neal – Laura’s Studio, kitchen – 4-15 - $10 - The $10 version of the workshop makes 1 batch of incense, - Carl Neal leads this workshop and will guide you through making your own sticks and cones. from completely natural ingredients. No synthetic fragrances or other artificial ingredients are used. Remember, incense making is almost exactly like baking, only you never gain any weight. Workshop - Wands 101, Don’t zap the mundane! – Silas – Laura’s Studio, outside - Wands will be an extension of the tree teaching and how the combination of wood, metal and stone can be used to focus your energy. I will also cover how to gather wand, scepter, and staffs the proper, respectful way and explain their similarities. I will bring 20 sanded wands for the students to take into their lives.

4pmElement Track - Practical Scrying, Mirror Magick Workshop – Rozaylia – Ancient Light, classroom - By Donation - One of the oldest forms of divination, scrying (or revelation and divination through prolonged gaze at an object) can be done with many different tools, but today we will focus on the magick of scrying through mirrors. We will learn about the theoretical and practical applications of mirror scrying, plus some of its history. Enjoy hands-on exercises and discussion, as well as guided scrying experiences through meditation and observation. Also, we will pass out a handout and discuss how you can make your own scrying mirrors at home.

Activity - Fairy Trek – Marius - Any number - By donation - We'll be a taking a short walk through the woods. During the walk we'll try to communicate, and catch evidence of the fey "if they want us to." Bring good shoes to walk in, cameras, and voice recorders if you have any. Panel Discussion - Whose Tradition Is It Anyway? A Discussion of Cultural Appropriation - Lupa– donations appreciated – This will be taped – Laura’s Studio, studio - Pagans are fond of borrowing cultural items and religious rites from other cultures, particularly Native American tribes. But what impact can this have on the cultures we borrow from? How can we balance respect for other cultures with our own personal growth? How does Wicca, arguably an entire religion based on appropriations, deal with this issue, where are the lines? How do we address personal gnosis in which people have encounters with deities from cultures other than their own? If you are in favour of appropriating from cultures which have historically been colonised and/or oppressed by Europeans, what do you propose to give back to those cultures by way of recompense for your appropriation? Where does appropriation end and inheritance begin? … And- does it count as appropriation when the piece in question and the people are all of one continental descent? e.g: A Slavic custom incorporated into a Brit Trad holiday observance? Or African-Americans using a custom from Mali alongside a song gleaned from ...say ... BB King's blues catalogue? Are words in and of themselves appropriation if the meanings have been changed? For instance, is it appropriation to use terms like "shaman" and "totem" in their broader anthropological sense? What are some effective ways to talk to others about appropriation?



Class - Bioregional Totemism: Our Local Spirits – Lupa – On Dreams, sunroom – donations appreciated – Any animal can be a totem, from Giraffe to Kangaroo to Caribou. But you don't have to have an exotic, far-away animal as your totem--what about those in your own back yard? Bioregional totemism is how we can connect with the Land we live on through the totems of its resident animals. Here you'll learn what a bioregion is and how to identify it, how to find your animal neighbors, how to connect with their totems, and more!

Elements - Water Elementals as Friends – Silas – Ancient Light, classroom - Simple spells performed with the element of water. A brief overview of the elements will be covered for a basic understanding of elemental magick.

Raffle – The raffle is a fundraiser for the event. Items are donated for this purpose. An item is added to the pile for every $25 in tickets. Tickets are $1, buy as many as you like. At the current time the list is: a Paul Rucker print (Sybil) , a Silas wand, a Sabbat incense gift basket, a candle gift basket, a $90 tarot reading (can be done over the phone), a bag of candy from Aunt Belinda's, and there will be more!
