Football Geography
Name:____________________ Team:________________________ Objective: Work on geography skills, become more familiar with the United States map, learn fun facts about each state, and HAVE FUN! Directions: Every Tuesday or Wednesday (depending on which day you come to Social Studies using the A/B schedule) we will start class with football geography. When you come into class, you will move your team’s football to the state that they played in that week. Each student will take turns saying who their team played, who won, what state they played in, the state capital, and a fun or interesting fact about the state. You will also keep track of your team’s travel on the map included in this packet. Trace your team’s journey by drawing lines state to state. * I understand that not everyone enjoys watching football. Watching the game is NOT a requirement. You are only required to look up the game location and score each week. You may find this information by watching the game, reading the newspaper, or looking it up on the internet. Grading: The grade for this assignment will be based upon preparedness and effort. Assignments are due at the beginning of class and late assignments will not be accepted. You can lose points for missed work, incorrect information, or misbehaving during other students’ presentations.
Electronic Directions: Now that every student has a chromebook, we are going to complete this project using maps.google.com. We will practice together for the first two weeks, then students are expected to have this completed on their own. Basic steps:
1. Go to maps.google.com and open your football geography map.2. Search for the stadium that your team is playing at that week.
3. Click on the “add marker” button at the top of the page. Place your marker at the stadium’s location.
4. Label the stadium. Enter the required information (state, capital, opponent, final score, fun fact).
5. Click on the camera button in the bottom right hand corner, search for an image and add a team related image to the stadium. Save the information.
6. After saving the information, click on the bucket labeled style, then click more icons, custom icon, and change the stadium’s icon to an image that relates to the team.
7. Finally, make sure you cite your sources for the images.
