Synopsis

The council moved into the new office building on 6 th of June 2014 and now each worker are operating in their own offices. Through the TIPEEG program we received again 6million Namibian Dollars, which we are using to service land and put up infrastructures in extension 2 and 3. Road Fund Administration funded N$259’000-00 for the upgrading of the road infrastructure and the council put interlocks in front of the clinic where we recruit 11 workers 3 women and 8 man and the work is successfully completed.

Key objectives

Capacity building: To train the staff members for better skills and knowledge.Strengthen Working Relationship: Working together and disseminate best practises, case studies,etc that can be presented at the annual gender justiceand local government summit and awards that provide councils and communities with a platform to learnt from each other on empowering women and ending violence at the local level.Monitoring and evaluation: Administration scorecards and other monitoring and evaluation tools that can be used to measure change in the immediate, medium and long termsPolitical support: garner political support through engaging councillors in concrete developmental issues that will put councils agenda high.

Background Council was not aware about the importance of the policies until the inception of gender links in 2009. In the past the people was not aware of

their rights, but through gender links they are now well equipped. Non involvement of activities concerning gender. The community was also not aware of their contribution in terms of demand for resource allocation such as gender budgeting and service provision. Female residents were not aware of the tender process, and their right to tender or provide services to the council.

• My heart felt exited since becoming part of the centre of excellence group

• I felt like a huge burden was offloaded from my shoulders when I joined the group

• I started to felt very accepted in society and is satisfied .• I gained independence and do know my rights now. I am also able to

generate an income, and now my husband felt threatened by that.• I also gained that courage to make decisions at household level for

example: by gaining admission for my children at the local school hostel.

The community were well organised during the 16 days campaign. Cyber dialog in linking with us locally and abroad. Liaising with other councils. Networking with different stakeholders locally
