EYFS Home learning project.
The Rainbow Fish
Below are some ideas that you could do/make about The Rainbow Fish for our home learning project. Please post your work on
Tapestry so that we can see it.Watch the story on YouTube or if you have your own copy of the
book, you can read this with an adult.
Literacy
Write a letter to the Rainbow Fish asking for a sparkly fin, and explain why you should get one. Draw and label your own rainbow creature. Can you write a couple of sentences about your
creature? What could happen next in the story? Can you retell the story to a grown up? What did Rainbow fish scales look like? How did Rainbow fish feel when the blue fish asked for a scale?
Mathematics
Listen to the story again and count how many sea creatures there are altogether in the story. Which is the largest/ smallest sea creature?
Ask a grown up to help you use the internet to research how big a seahorse, and a shark are, and measure this length out. Which is bigger? Are they longer or shorter than you?
Other Activities
Design your own rainbow creature. Create an octopus with 8 paperchain legs:
Can you count how many links you have used altogether? How many triangle shark teeth can you cut out? Can you create a shark picture with them? Can you complete Squish the fish yoga: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhYtcadR9nw Can you make a list of what qualities make a real and good friend? Can you draw a picture of
that person?
