Creative writing:

We would like you to think about the legend of King Arthur. A great retelling of the legend can be found by clicking here. Below you will find an image. Look closely at the image. How does it make you feel? What do you notice? What can you see in the background?

Write a short story of your own using this image as stimulus. Perhaps you are King Arthur himself, ready to make some changes. Or maybe you are an aspiring knight who would love to earn a place at his legendary round table. Get creative and write a Legend of your own. Below you can find the key features and on the next page you can find a plan to help you organise your ideas.

Writing a set of instructions:

We would like you to write a set of instructions for an adult in your house to follow. These instructions can be about anything that you like to do! Great subjects to write instructions for are:

· Baking recipes

· How to play a game

· How to make your favourite dinner

· How to do a chore

Below you will find a list of features that are important when writing instructions. Follow this link here for a great video that explains the features of instructional writing in more detail. On the next page you will see an example recipe to bake Easter cookies. Look closely at the language used and the features of that example.Why not have a go at making the cookies too?

Features of instructions:

· A clear title

· Equipment list

· An introduction that explains the outcome

· Pictures/diagrams of final product and maybe even step by step

· Numbered bullet points

· Imperative verbs (bossy words) e.g. put, mix, place, slice etc.

· Time connective at the start of each step e.g. first, next, then

Below you will find the opening line to a story. Your task is to continue it. Be creative and plan your thoughts and story ideas first on the simple template below. What genre will your story be? Will it be a mystery, romance or even a scary story?

Writing a film Review:

Spend some time watching a great children’s movie! It could be your favourite movie or it could be something you have never seen before and have been meaning to watch. After you have watched the movie, write a film review. It has to only fit on one page and cannot take you any longer than 30 minutes.

Remember to include:

· A simple summary of the plot without giving too much away

· Why you did or didn’t like it

· How you thought the actors were

· Whether or not you’d recommend the movie to others and why]

· Your favourite scene and why

· A rating out of 5 stars and why it deserves that
