COMPREHENSION N0 (6) Date : / /Read the following passage ,then do as required below: The home of the elephant is a wide shady forest. The elephant is the largest of all animals, and it is found in Asia and Africa. One of the places in Asia where the elephant can be found is the island of Ceylon. Ceylon has huge forests, and thousands of elephants live there. These forests are so thick with trees that the sun never reaches the ground.

Elephants like the cool dark places in the forests. They stand there, moving their big ears trying to get rid of the flies, which settle on them. They like the coolness of water, too. They stand in a pool of water for hours sucking up water with their trunks and splashing it over their bodies. Although they eat fruit and the tender leaves of the plants and trees of the forests, they sometimes damage the Ceylonese crops when they come out of the forests and eat the rice and corn growing in the fields and break down the garden fence and what is growing in the garden. The oldest elephant always leads when they move about in herd. The baby elephants and mothers walk in the middle, where they are safe. They make a great noise when they are moving in herds, bending back and breaking the trees which get in their ways. Although an elephant is usually quiet and harmless no other animal dares attack the herd when it is moving.

COMPREHENSION N0 (6) Date : / / Read the following passage and then answer the questions below:

On a warm September evening in Rome, Italy, a slender, dark-shirted runner hastened toward the Arch of Constantine. Few of the spectators recognized him as he approached the finish line of the Olympic marathon, but most were surprised when they noticed that he was running barefoot. Two hundred yards ahead of his nearest competitor, AbebeBikila crossed the finish line. In that one race, at the Rome Olympics, that Bikila became one of the great champions in the Olympic history. Before that race, AbebeBikila was a stranger to the world's sporting press. A little over two hours later, Bikila had established himself as the fastest marathoner in history. Before the 1960 Games, he had run only two marathons in his life—both in his native country, Ethiopia. Four years later, at the Tokyo Olympics, he was still recovering from an appendectomy when he toed the starting line (this time wearing shoes). The outcome was winning the race easily. After that he suffered a tragic auto accident that would paralyze him from the waist down, and so died prematurely at age 41. His later misfortune lent an air of tragedy to this quiet, dignified man.
