30 th Sunday in Ordinary Time 29 th October 2017 Psalter Week II HOW CAN WE HAVE AN ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN THE HOLY EUCHARIST? In order for us to participate in the Holy Mass, in an active and meaningful way, we should understand the meaning of the Holy Mass and the significance of the different parts of the Mass. Every part of the Mass has its own meaning and theology. Sometimes we participate in the Mass without knowing the richness and meaning of it. The Holy Eucharist is divided into four parts: The Introductory Rites, Liturgy of the Word, Liturgy of the Eucharist & The Communion Rites, and the Concluding Rites. Coming together, or assembling, is at the heart of every Eucharistic worship, because Eucharist is the worship of the community. The purpose of the celebration is to bring us together into one body, ready to listen and to break bread together and, thus, to re-enact and commemorate the salvific mystery of Jesus. HOW CAN WE HAVE AN ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN THE HOLY EUCHARIST?In order for us to participate in the Holy Mass, in an active and meaningful way, we should understand

the meaning of the Holy Mass and the significance of the different parts of the Mass.

As we enter the church, there are few things to be observed before we begin our worship: 1) Use of Holy Water:- As Catholics, one of the first things we do, when we come to church, is dip our right hands in the Holy Water font, at the entrance, and make the sign of the cross. This ritual is a reminder of our Baptism and an act of cleansing ourselves from the evils of this world, making us worthy to enter the Holy Place. We were baptised with water and signed with the cross. At every Mass we renew our promises to die to sin. 2) Genuflection:- Genuflection is the act of lowering one’s body by bending one knee to the ground, typically in worship or as a sign of respect. As Catholics, we genuflect in church because we recognise the presence of Christ in the tabernacle and express our respect for our Lord . We promise our adherence to the Lord of all. 3) Posture:- Standing is the traditional posture of the Christian at prayer. It expresses our attentiveness to the Word of God and our readiness to carry it out. The standing posture helps us to be attentive and active.
