May 2019 / Page 1 Vol. XXVI, No. 2 Our Neighborhood Newsletter May 2019 Stonegate Sentinel MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Dennis Baker Greetings to all our friends and neighbors living here in Stonegate Hill! Stonegate Hill is a great community while not the largest or smallest, it’s just right. We have many things to be proud of due to the mixture of all our residents’ interests and backgrounds. Thank you all for attending the Annual Meeting in February. I am honored to be your new President and will do my best to perform my duties to make our community safe and enjoyable. Your Board of Directors has been quite busy since the year started making restorations to our recreation areas as follows: We have made a few necessary improvements to the Pool Restrooms at considerable cost by remodeling the restrooms with new equipment, repainting the walls and floors and new partitions. We hope that everyone respects this investment in our community. Joan Lopez and Carol Sullivan devoted many hours of their time with contractors making this possible. The Recreation area now has complete camera surveillance and is monitored 24 hours a day for our security. Please convey to your children that we can see who is using our resources well as well as vandalizing our community’s property. We hired Pam Griffin to be our new Pool Monitor. She lives in our neighborhood and is quite qualified to do the job required. She will be enforcing recreation area and pool rules and monitoring safe use of recreation areas. There has been vandalism of the basketball court by children drawing on the court with rocks. This damages the special paint used on the court which will necessitate repainting. Please monitor your children in these areas and do not allow them to mark on the court with rocks or anything else. If you don’t feel comfortable addressing other people’s children, please report any vandalism to a Board member or the Pool Monitor. Stonegate Hill typically has 2 Garage Sales per year, one in the spring and one in the fall. This spring it was a 2- day event, both days overshadowed by inclement weather. A few residents braved the weather and had moderate success. Hopefully, the fall event will be a huge success. The Bunny Hop, held April 13, was circumvented by Mother Nature’s thunderstorms and hail. Though only a few families braved the weather this year, Susan Handlin devoted many hours to its organization and preparation. It takes a whole community to put on an event of this magnitude and I want to send out a big “Thank You” to everyone who participated! The Swim Team had its first meeting on April 13. If you are interested in joining or volunteering to help the Swim Team, contact Julia Xia 210- 454-3983. Please take note of the recent complaints about speeders driving recklessly through the neighborhood. We as a community need to be vigilant and watch for these offenders by getting their license plate numbers and description of the vehicles. Report them to someone on the Board of Directors. Also, complaints have surfaced about incessant dog barking which disturbs the tranquility of the neighborhood. Please ensure you monitor your dog’s barking to be not more than 20 minutes at a time (Per City Ordinance) and be considerate of your neighbors by not allowing dogs to bark late into the night. There is also a requirement by the Association to pick up dog droppings as you walk your dogs. It is not fair to non-dog owners to have to clean up your dog’s mess. I would like to thank all the Board Members who have devoted many hours of their time to make our community a great place to live! So much of their service is done behind the scenes to keep our community running smoothly. A Big “Thank You” to all the volunteers of Stonegate Hill! PARTIES

Now that the weather has warmed up many are planning outdoor activities. If a resident wants to reserve the pool or park area for a party, you must complete the

reservation form and get it approved two weeks prior to the event. Go to the Spectrum Assn Management website to fill out the form. It is under Community Information, click on Documents, select Category, then select Pool Information and click on Pool Lease Agreement. The form and a deposit check of $100 must be taken to the Spectrum Assn Management office at 17319 San Pedro Suite 318 between the hours of 8-5 Monday thru Friday. After the event is over, the area will need to be cleaned and all the trash removed. The deposit will be returned once this is done.

BE A GOOD DOGGY

NEIGHBOR By a SGH Dog Lover

There’s a saying that life’s better with a dog. Lots of us would agree with that! Dogs add friendship, warmth and laughter to our homes. But they can add stress, noise and fear to our environment as well. Being great neighbors is an important part of building a strong community. We really cherish the friendly community in Stonegate Hill. It’s one of our favorite parts of living here! To be a great neighbor, that also means being a conscientious dog owner as well. Here are three tips on how to be a good doggy neighbor. 1. Make sure your dog always

wears a collar and ID nametag. Microchips are now a law in San Antonio and are a great tool. But the best way to ensure someone picks up your dog is if

it is wearing a collar and nametag. That shows the dog is owned and makes it more approachable. Also, not everyone can take a dog to a clinic to see if it’s microchipped.

2. Please be considerate about barking dogs. If it’s early in the morning, consider going outside with your dog on leash when they go potty to let your neighbors sleep in. If that’s not possible, bring it in as soon as it’s done. Don’t leave your dog outside all day or all night. They DO bark, and some constantly without much rest!

3. Roaming/loose dogs are happening more often in our ‘hood. That makes running, walking dogs, or playing outside with your kiddos feel unsafe. I’ve personally been rushed with my young children and my dog by several repeat doggy offenders. Many of us alert our HOA board but do know that it’s within anyone’s right to call the city, too. I don’t think anyone wants their dog to be picked up or to hurt another neighbor here. Check your fences often for escape routes.

ALL THINGS PETS

IN STONEGATE HILL

I’m sure many of you have seen the various posts via email and social media about missing or found pets in the neighborhood. The challenge is always getting the information out to the right people to get the pet returned home quickly and safely. To help facilitate that, Stonegate Hill has created an “All Things Pets” tab on

our Stonegate Hill website and a Pet Registry Manager. If you have a pet and are interested in participating, send your pet’s name, picture, and your preferred contact information to Kathy Davis at (818) 850-8986 or via email to [email protected]. Your information WILL NOT be posted on the webpage. The webpage will have Kathy’s contact information as the go-to person for coordinating the return of missing and found pets as well as articles specific to our neighborhood about pets and animals. Questions, suggestions, and comments regarding this new community service can be addressed to Kathy. BOARD OF DIRECTORS

MEETINGS Stonegate Hill Board of Directors meetings will be held the second Monday of each month. Meetings will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at location to be announced prior to the meeting. The dates are posted on the Stonegate Hill website (www.stonegatehill.com) Guidelines for these meetings can be found on the Stonegate Hill website under HOA Documents.
