Our Parish Mission: By the grace of God, we, the people of the Roman Catholic Parish of Saint Frances Cabrini , firmly rooted in the Apostolic Tradion of the Church and the Holy Scriptures, are called to connue the mission of Jesus Christ to build up the Kingdom of God in the world through our faithful living according to His teachings, our proclamaon of the Gospel by word and deed, and the worship of God in our private prayer as well as in our public celebraon of the Sacraments. We can do all things in Christ who strengthens us! (Philippians 4:13) REFLECTION ON THE LITURGY OF THE WORD T oday we will hear of horrifying signs that may signal the end of the world: earthquakes and famines, wars and persecutions. Even though these warnings were given more then two thousand years ago and the world has not yet ended, they can still spur us on to action now. As we celebrate this Mass let us look at our lives and consider what we should change and then resolve to do so now. The 1st reading from the prophesy of Malachi sets the tone when he speaks of fire consuming the earth. Scary. But this message does not end there. He goes on to say that; “there will arise the sun of justice with its healing rays.” Jesus does the same. After warning of perse- cutions, he assures us that those who place their trust in the Lord will be kept safe, “do not be terri- fied, for such things must happen first, but it will not immediately be the end.” The message of hope is found in our Responsorial Psalm: “The Lord comes to rule the earth with justice.” We are fur- ther reassured with Jesus’ words of comfort: “not a hair on your head will be destroyed. By persever- ance you will save your lives.” NOVEMBER 17, 2019 PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR BELOVED SICK Luke Peterson, Ralph Valenti, Theresa Gonzalez, Natalie Delga- do, Carmelo Pulizzotto, Salvatore Pandolfo, Arthur Malagoli, Thomas Messina, Mary Ann DeForca, Maureen Rivera, Antho- ny Calabrese, Fred Lesto, Joseph Perrelli, Jean Bevacqua, George Cagno, Ariana Mainner, Julia Bruzzese, Josephine Zim- mitti, Frank DiBari, Rose Dee, Calogero & Consiglia Bertolino, Carmine Barone, George Constantin, Isabel Ayala, Frances Cantone, Venancio Rosado, Vito Pisano, Theresa Mierzejewski, Quintin Leone, Rose Scianno, James Amato, Gloria Freda, Jean Hoskey, Isabelle Grenier, Caterina Romeo, Helen Scalia, Lor- raine Trapani, Diana Torres, Rosemarie Roccotagliata, Marilyn Isrealowitz, J.T. THE THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME “WORLD DMY OF THE POOR”

At the end of the Extraordinary Holy Year of Mercy Pope Francis wrote: “as the Holy Doors of Mercy were being closed in all the cathedrals and shrines of the world, I had the idea that, as yet another tangible sign of this Extraordinary Holy Year, the entire Church might celebrate, on the Thirty-Third Sunday of Ordinary Time, the World Day of the Poor. This would be the worthiest way to prepare for the celebration of the Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, who identified with the little ones and the poor and who will judge us on our works of mercy (cf. Mt 25:31-46).

It would be a day to help communities and each of the baptized to reflect on how poverty is at the very heart of the Gospel and that, as long as Lazarus lies at the door of our homes (cf. Lk 16:19-21), there can be no justice or social peace. This Day will also represent a genuine form of new evangelization (cf. Mt 11:5) which can renew the face of the Church as She perseveres in her perennial activity of pastoral conversion and witness to mercy.”

This Third World Day of the Poor has as its theme the words of Psalm 9:19, “The hope of the poor shall not perish for ever.” These words of the Psalm remain timely. They express a profound truth that faith impresses above all on the hearts of the poor, restoring lost hope in the face of injus-tice, sufferings and the uncertainties of life. Its teaching serves not only to throw light on the conclusion of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, but also to point out the path that we are called to follow in the future.
