GO AND DO LIKEWISE Miss Collins, the dean of students at Olympic High School, was past the point of scolding Matt, though she liked him very much. “Four detentions in two weeks are too many.” Still Matt wouldn’t tell. It was only after Miss Collins went on a morning neighborhood patrol that she found out the real reason for Matt’s tardiness. Thump, thump, thump, came the wheelchair down the stairs. It was Matt, steadying Shawnetta as he helped lower her down the stairs and then push her to the corner bus stop. “She’s a girl in my parish youth group,” Matt explained to Miss Collins. There are many ways to describe Matt’s actions—a random act of kindness, making a difference one person at a time. Jesus would understand. When the lawyer correctly identified the good Samaritan as the one who had treated the injured man with compassion, Jesus said simply, “Go and do likewise” (Luke 10:37). Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Copyright © J. GREEN POWER - The Diocese of Monterey and the faith-based organization, Green Power, will collaborate to host a CLIMATE CHANGE training for Catholics on July 17th, 12-4 pm. The event is called “Caring for our Sacred Earth” and it will be at Resurrection Church in Aptos. The gathering is motivated by the Holy Father’s encyclical, Laudato Sí, where he calls on all Catholics to “care for our common home.” Parishioners from across the Diocese will learn how to promote energy-efficient parishes and explore rooftop solar for churches. Solar panels can provide less expensive and environmentally sustainable energy to our buildings. Bishop Garcia will celebrate mass before the event at 10:15am. Lunch will follow from 11:15am-noon. To learn more visit greenpower.church.

CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS THANK YOU!

Having just ended our 2015-2016 fiscal year, the members of John Paul II Court of Catholic Daughters do want

to express our deep thanks and appreciation to the very generous parishioners at Sacred Heart Church. Your constant support throughout the year allowed us to provide charitable donations to a variety of entities in our community. In support of Catholic education, we were able to help Sacred Heart’s Faith Formation Program, Sacred Heart School and our very fervent and promising local Seminarian, David Ramirez. We also provided some financial help to local programs that help homeless, foster and needy children. The Food Bank of Monterey County, Dorothy’s Kitchen, Madonna Manor Retirement Home and the Confidence Pregnancy Center were also recipients of our donations. While it gives us great pride to see the positive impact that our hard-working Catholic Daughter Court was able to accomplish during the year, we fully recognize and appreciate that without YOUR help and support, we could not have done any of it.
