Week 1

Introduction

This school year we will be using our Super Brain Power to help defeat and conquer different made up characters called Unthinkables. There is one superhero we will be trying to learn from. His name is Superflex-Our hero! Superflex is a great problem- solver and can think of many different solutions to one problem, but he needs our help by using our Superflexible strategies and Zone tools to help overcome the Unthinkables. Are you Ready? Let's get started.

Day 1 Unthinkable "Powers" of Unthinkable Superflex/Zones strategies to solve the problem and defeat the Unthinkable

Rock Brain

He will get the person to do only what he wants to do and will not let him negotiate with other people. The person is not a good problem- solver and tries one solution that’s not working over and over again.

If you start to feel that you are getting into the Yellow Zone by feeling furstrated you can Take a deep breath and remember that being part of a group means that you cannot always do it your way or make the decisions you want. Can you think of any other tools or strategies you can use to help stay calm in your Green Zone? Tomorrow we will go over another tool or Superflexible stategy.

Day 2 Unthinkable "Powers" of Unthinkable Superflex/Zones strategies to solve the problem and defeat the Unthinkable

Rock Brain

Remember from yesterday, Rock Brain only wants to do what he wants. This person may be very rule bound and rigid in his thinking, only seeing one way to a situation.

Another tool or Superflexible strategy you can use to help manage your Yellow or Red Zone of feeling Frustrated or Mad of when you might have a Rock Brain moment is to use Self talk: “Not a problem, I will get to do this later or another time...” Be Rex the Flexinator!

Day 3 Unthinkable "Powers" of Unthinkable Superflex/Zones strategies to solve the problem and defeat the Unthinkable

Rock Brain

Rock Brain will get the person to do only what he wants to do and will not let him negotiate with other people.

Another tool or Superflexible strategy you can use to help manage your Yellow or Red Zone of feeling Frustrated or Mad is to Notice that what you are doing is not working and try another way to solve the same problem. This is called having a Flexible Moment.

Day 4 Unthinkable "Powers" of Unthinkable Superflex/Zones strategies to solve the problem and defeat the Unthinkable

Rock Brain

Remember from yesterday, Rock Brain only wants to do what he wants. One of the hardest parts about defeating Rock Brain is he can be very sneaky, so we need to practice thinking with our eyes and brain to look for clues.

To help us think with our eyes, we can Pause and Look! When entering a room or group, we can Ask yourself, “What is their plan?” And then try to match their plan. This helps us have our body and brain in the group. What other Superflexible strategies can you use to stay in the Green Zone when you are working with others?

Page 2: Weekly Focus: Connecting Social Thinking and …...Day 5 Unthinkable "Powers" of Unthinkable Superflex/Zones strategies to solve the problem and defeat the Unthinkable Space Invader

Day 5 Unthinkable "Powers" of Unthinkable Superflex/Zones strategies to solve the problem and defeat the Unthinkable

Rock Brain

Ok, all SuperFlexible Thinkers out there, let's review how we can defeat Rock Brain.

Some Superflexible Zone Tools and strategies we brainstormed this week were: 1) Take a deep breath, 2) Self talk: “Not a problem, I will get to do this later or another time...” 3) Flexible Moment- adjusting and trying another way, and 4) Pause and Look!, "Is my Brain and Body in the group?"

Week 2

Introduction

This school year we will be using our Super Brain Power to help defeat and conquer different made up characters called Unthinkables. Last week we introduced our first Unthinkable Character, Rock Brain. You all were Superflexible Thinkers and helped defeat him by using your Zone Tools and Superflexible Strategies. Let's continue to work as a team to defeat and conquer our next Unthinkable.

Day 1 Unthinkable "Powers" of Unthinkable Superflex/Zones strategies to solve the problem and defeat the Unthinkable

Day 1 Unthinkable "Powers" of Unthinkable Superflex/Zones strategies to solve the problem and defeat the Unthinkable

D.O.F. (Destroyer of Fun)

This character often pops up during games or activities involving competition. The person becomes overly competitive and insists on going first, playing only what he wants to play, and does not think about compromising or about how he makes others feel.

The D.O.F. (Destroyer of Fun) may cause ourselves or others to get into the Red Zone by feeling mad or angry. One Red Zone strategy is to use Self-talk: “ If I am a “Just Me” player, then my friends will not have a good time.”

Day 2 Unthinkable "Powers" of Unthinkable Superflex/Zones strategies to solve the problem and defeat the Unthinkable

D.O.F. (Destroyer of Fun)

D.O.F. makes you overly competitive and insists on going first, playing only what you want to play, and does not think about compromising or about how it makes others feel.

The D.O.F. may cause ourselves or others to get into the Yellow Zone by feeling Frustrated. One Yellow Zone tool is to: Pause and think about others; Ask yourself, "How is my behavior affecting my friends?"

Day 3 Unthinkable "Powers" of Unthinkable Superflex/Zones strategies to solve the problem and defeat the Unthinkable

D.O.F. (Destroyer of Fun)

Times when D.O.F. takes over our thinking: Only wants to be first, Not being flexible in trying a new game, or cheating.

Self-Talk: “Tiny problem. I will still get a turn or may win another time.”

Day 4 Unthinkable "Powers" of Unthinkable Superflex/Zones strategies to solve the problem and defeat the Unthinkable
