Weekly Update October 23rd, 2015 Hello Summerside Families and Happy Friday! We just completed another super week at Summerside in our classrooms! I encourage you to stop by tomorrow, Saturday October 24 th , for our Arts and Craft Show at Summerside from 9:00am- 3:00pm. We will have over 32 craft vendors who will be selling their handmade crafts. A special thank you to Jennifer Teets, who is one of our parents and a member of our PTO, for organizing this family event! Teaching and Learning is our Core Business at Summerside and I will always showcase the learning taking place in our classrooms every week so our families get a glimpse into life here at Summer- side. Our Kindergarten students are always a joy to see and I am very proud of them. Mrs. Hun- tington's students were engaged in a learning activity in Mathematics. Two of our students were counting dominoes as they "park" them in the corresponding parking space on their mat. Several number and numeration skills are practiced with this fun activity. Keep up the good work Mrs. Huntington and her Kindergarten Students. Keep up the good work! Our goal is to always have a family friendly school were everyone who enters our doors receives a warm welcome. Below is a photograph of Erin Murray and her children decorating the entry to our school with a Fall theme. Thank you Erin for making a difference at our school. We appreciate the warm welcome your displays provide us as we enter our lobby! Fifth Grade Camp is right around the corner! Next week our 5th Grade Students will be going to camp and this special opportunity, which is a tradition here at Summerside, creates memories that will last a lifetime for our students. Information about Camp is included in this edition of the eCommunition. A special thank you to Ms. Finke who organized our 5th Grade Camp experience. Last, but not least, I want to thank April Moore who is a member of our PTO and a Summerside parent for her work on the PTO Fall Fundraiser that just wrapped up today. We have a terrific PTO and their volunteers work tirelessly for our school community. As you can see from the updates above we have many people working behind the scenes making a difference at our school daily! Have a nice weekend and enjoy the fall colors! I am here to serve you, fell free to call me on my direct cell line Mon-Sunday at 513-373-5735. Respectfully, Bob

Weekly Update October 23rd, 2015

Hello Summerside Families and Happy Friday!

We just completed another super week at Summerside in our classrooms! I encourage you to stop by tomorrow, Saturday October 24th, for our Arts and Craft Show at Summerside from 9:00am-3:00pm. We will have over 32 craft vendors who will be selling their handmade crafts. A special thank you to Jennifer Teets, who is one of our parents and a member of our PTO, for organizing this family event!

Teaching and Learning is our Core Business at Summerside and I will always showcase the learning taking place in our classrooms every week so our families get a glimpse into life here at Summer-side. Our Kindergarten students are always a joy to see and I am very proud of them. Mrs. Hun-tington's students were engaged in a learning activity in Mathematics.

Dear Parents,

This is the last letter that will be sent home regarding camp. There are a few loose ends that need to be tied, but other than that we seem to be ready! Camp money and permission slips are due on Monday Oct. 19th. If other arrange-ments are needed, please contact me at your earliest convenience.

Luggage cannot be taken on the bus for camp. I will be here on Tuesday Oct 27th from 5:00 – 8:00. You can drop off luggage during this time in Room 7 under your child’s homeroom sign. If Tuesday evening is not possible, you may bring your child to school the next day with their luggage. There are too many safety issues with the number of chil-dren on the buses and their luggage.

When we return on Friday, if someone other than yourself is picking up your child, we need a signed letter

stating this by Wednesday morning. We need to stress to you that all medicine taken by a child needs to be accompanied by a signed doctor’s medi-

cal form. These may be picked up in the office and need to here by Wednesday morning. Any medicine without a doc-tor’s form will not be administered. This goes for cold medicine, headache medicine as well as any medication that is given on a daily basis. I know this may be an inconvenience to some, but it is for the safety of all the children. Students may NOT bring in the medication themselves. Parents can bring this with their child either at luggage drop-off on Tues-day or Wednesday morning.

Camp does run on a three strikes and you’re out system. This means that a child will be given two warnings for inappropriate behavior. If a third warning is given, the child must be picked up from camp. Please have a discussion with your child about appropriate behavior and following directions. There will be no refunds if your child is sent home from camp.

Lastly, because of the bed bugs, all students’ luggage will be loaded on a trailer and driven into a building on site where it will be heated. This will kill any bed bugs that may be brought into camp. Due to this procedure, please place all bath items (shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, etc.) into a zip-lock bag in case there is any leakage during this process. Also, this temperature will “fry” any electronics (which should not be brought to camp) as well as cameras. Please make sure that if your child chooses to bring a camera, they have it in their pockets Wednesday morning. They will not be able to get to their luggage until later Wed. afternoon. Camp is doing all they can to ensure that you are happy with your child’s camp experience.

I know that many of the students are very excited as well as the teachers! Please pack accordingly for the weath-er. Make sure names are in coats, clothes, shoes, etc. There are heaters in the cabins, as well as fireplaces, but please have your children dress for the worst case scenario – they can always take off layers when we get there. If you have any last minute questions, feel free to contact me at 947-7935 or [email protected] Sincerely,

Becky Finke
