Welcome to Highpoint! We’ve had an incredible summer, from block parties to grill outs, but it’s all been leading up to this season—the fall!

Fall at Highpoint is about trying new things, growing in your relationship with Jesus and experiencing authentic community.

If you’re new to Highpoint, I want to extend a special welcome to you! As you explore all that’s going on this quarter, please know that we want to come alongside of you to help you believe, belong and become more like Christ.

As this new ministry year kicks off, don’t be afraid to jump in! Kids, students and groups are kicking off the week of Sept. 9. No matter your age or stage of life, Highpoint has something to offer you and your family as you seek to grow in your faith.

So grab a favorite fall beverage or treat and find a moment to flip through all the opportunities we have for you to connect.

I’m trusting that God has something great in store for you this fall as we grow together!

In His Strength,

Pastor Ron Zappia Senior Pastor

Back in 2015, Highpoint Church elders and pastoral team cast

a vision for a multi-site model of ministry—initially launching

the North Aurora and Bolingbrook Campuses that same year.

On Easter 2017, Highpoint Church added a Lisle location, but it

needed a new facility.

Around this time, First Baptist Wheaton’s senior pastor

announced his intention to retire after providing 16 years of

leadership to this historic church. This became the catalyst for

First Baptist Wheaton exploring the potential for a merger with

a couple of churches in the area, including Highpoint Church.

Both Highpoint Church and First Baptist Wheaton quickly

realized they would be “better together” because of their

shared mission and vision to reach more in the community with

the gospel. On May 14, 2018, First Baptist Wheaton voted, with

87% in favor, to merge with Highpoint Church, becoming the

Wheaton location.

7

Wheaton Campus! This merger is an answer to prayer for everyone involved: in

July 2018, the Lisle location moved to the Wheaton Campus,

providing a new facility for Lisle, and simultaneously breathing

new life into the Wheaton location. Highpoint Church is

gaining a thriving Toddler’s Campus preschool, the ability

to increase ministry focus on caring for refugees in DuPage

County, as well as expanding Highpoint’s global reach through

international missionaries.

With new resources and tools gained, Highpoint Church is excited

to further the gospel here, there, and everywhere through four

locations—Naperville, North Aurora, Bolingbrook and Wheaton!

The grand opening of the Wheaton Campus is Sept. 9, 2018.

THREE STEPS TO MAKE HIGHPOINT YOUR CHURCH HOME.

STEP 1 | Meet We want to meet you! Get to know some of our pastors, staff

and others who are new at a casual meet-and-greet. Step 1

normally takes place the first weekend of the month directly

following each service at all campuses.

STEP 2 | ConnectConnect to the core of our church by taking a closer look at

who we are, what we’re passionate about and what it means

to believe, belong and become like Jesus. This 60-minute

study normally takes place the second weekend of the month

before or after services at each campus.

STEP 3 | CommitIn this final step, you’ll commit to making Highpoint your

church home by becoming a member, joining a group and

finding a place to serve. This step normally takes place the

third weekend of the month at each campus.

MEET THE NORTH AURORA CAMPUS PASTORM A T T D E C O L AGod’s path for our lives usually aren’t linear. There’s twists and turns, but they all lead to a certain point in time where His Will and His Way come to fruition—especially when we follow God’s call. This truth is found in the story of the new North Aurora Campus Pastor, Matt DeCola, his wife Shawna, and their son Vinnie (3).

While a boy in Chicagoland, Matt reminisces: “I grew up just twenty minutes from the Naperville Campus in St. Charles as ‘the good Italian Catholic boy.’ I just always thought that as long as I did more good than bad, I would be okay.”

Matt lived by this philosophy until he met his now wife, Shawna, while working for an insurance company in Minneapolis. Raised in a Christian home where she actively served in the Church, he “realized that if [he] was going to stay with [Shawna, he] would have to start going to church with her.”

1716

At this time, Shawna also distinctly remembers praying to God to confirm whether or not they should stay together. She recalls, “And that same day, Matt came over to my house and just said, ‘I don’t know how to do this, and I don’t know how to lead you, but I want to be the man that tries.’”

In 2011, Highpoint sent out Pastor Steve Deedrick to plant a church in Rochester, MN. Eager to grow in Christ, Matt and Shawna began attending Harvest Rochester, where Pastor Steve started discipling Matt.

As a volunteer, Matt accepted Pastor Steve’s invite to attend a conference with him in Elgin, IL. While there, Matt heard Pastor Ron speak for the first time. He remembers the moment Pastor Ron Zappia got on stage: “He flipped open his Bible to Exodus 4 and began preaching a message entitled ‘Excuses, Excuses,’ all about the call to ministry on Moses’ life.”

During the message, Moses gives excuse after excuse as to why he is not qualified to do what God is asking of him (Exodus 4:10-12). But despite the excuses, God gets through to Moses and uses him in big ways for His people. This was the pivotal moment where Matt realized God was calling Him out of the business world and into full-time ministry. All of Matt’s excuses were confronted head-on and shortly thereafter he accepted a position on staff at Harvest Rochester.

In February 2018 Highpoint Ministries, Pastor Ron’s teaching and radio ministry, brought The Knot Conference to Harvest Rochester. While attending the conference with Shawna, Matt heard from Pastor Ron again as he was discerning his next step in ministry and considering if he should plant a church.

Meanwhile, Highpoint had an opportunity open at the North Aurora Campus and everyone began to see the hand of God at work. Fast forward to the present, and Matt and his family have moved back to Illinois this summer as he takes on the role of new North Aurora Campus Pastor.

Matt and Shauna reflect on the story God has been weaving for them all along: “We definitely feel like God has been preparing us for such a time as this. Getting a chance to look back and see this circle God has formed is exciting. We could not be more excited to be a part of what God is doing at Highpoint Church, and to be a part of the North Aurora family.”

God’s call on Matt’s life started out small, but the sovereign twists and turns along the way led him back to Chicagoland to spread the gospel through investing in the lives of the people at the North Aurora Campus.

Whether you are just beginning your faith journey or have been walking with God a long time, we all have steps we need to take to experience Christ by belonging to community. Getting into a growth group will help you do just that.

It’s about getting out of the row and into a circle so you can be known, cared for and loved.

We have 10 types of growth groups that are designed to help you get going and keep growing in your faith. Growth groups are where you go to connect with other people, dig into God’s Word and experience lasting life-change as you develop authentic relationships and serve others.

Church shouldn’t just happen on the weekend, it should be a week-long experience—but it can’t be done alone—get in a growth group!
