My dear Parishioners,
Today, I want to follow up on my remarks in last week’s
Sunday Bulletin about the involvement of the Laity in the
life and ministry of the Passionist Congregation. But before
I do, I want to heartily congratulate St. Paul of the Cross’s
2017 Woman of the Year, Mrs. Fannie Collier, and Youth of
the Year, Ms Cindy Emenalo. They both well represent not
only the women and youth of our parish, but the whole par-
ish. We are so proud of both of them. Following the Febru-
ary 25th Archdiocesan celebration honoring them and hon-
orees of the other parishes at Holy Spirit Catholic Church,
we will honor them here at St. Paul of the Cross.
I concluded last week’s remarks by stating that many layper-
sons around the world are associated with the life and min-
istry of the vowed member of the Passionist order. Our
founder, St. Paul of the Cross, desired from the beginning
that laity should share in the work of spreading devotion to
the Passion of Christ. The desire became a reality in 1861
when the Confraternity of the Passion was established.
Following Vatican II, however, the Passionists, like many
other religious orders, offered even more opportunities for
laypersons who shared their “charism” to bond more formal-
ly with vowed Passionists. In recent years, St. Paul of the
Cross Province, which includes our Atlanta foundation, es-
tablished the Passionist Volunteers, Passionist Volunteers
International, and Passionist Associates, each affording
laypersons an opportunity to share more directly in the mis-
sion of the Passionist Congregation. In 2014, our Provin-
cial Chapter established a Commission on the Laity to en-
hance the role of the laity. Parishioner Faye Smith is a
member of this Commission. It will be sponsoring a first-
ever Convocation on the Laity this coming June 9 to 11 at
our Bishop Molloy Retreat Center in Jamaica, New York.
More about this important gathering next week.
—Fr. Jerome, C.P.

SÉPTIMO DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO
Mis Hermanos, quiero remontarme a unos tres domingos
can a Jesús y deben indentificar a sus discípulos.
vida.
P. Alberto, C.P.
