Welcome to Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church The Ascension of the Lord May 24, 2020 ~ Our Mission Statement ~ We, the Roman Catholic Parish of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, joyfully worship together to give praise, honor and glory to Almighty God. We are called by the Holy Spirit to proclaim and to live the gospel message through the sacraments and to spread the message of Jesus Christ by living out the example of God’s power in our lives. “PUSHED” OUT ON MISSION There is a delightful character in the original Dr. Dolittle Tales called the “Pushmi-Pullyu.” It is a beast with two identical halves, with a head at each end. No matter which direction the beast walks, one end is the “push me” and the other is the “pull you.” Today’s feast is a bit like that in the life of the church. In the book of the Acts of the Apostles, it is the ascension of Christ that calls for the Holy Spirit, which consequently sends or “pushes” the church out on its mission. This is the mes- sage that we hear from the angels today as they tell the friends of Jesus not to look up into the clouds, but to get busy. It is the message of Jesus himself in Matthew’s Gospel, as he sends them out to baptize. He also tells them, “I am with you al- ways, until the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). And it is this message, confident in faith that Jesus has ascended to shouts of joy, that “pulls” us along to our final destiny. The life of the faithful disciple, sent into the world on mission, will one day know the same risen, ascended glory. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Welcome to Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church The Ascension of the Lord May 24, 2020

~ Our Mission Statement ~

We, the Roman Catholic Parish of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, joyfully worship together to give praise, honor and glory to Almighty God.

This is the mes-sage that we hear from the angels today as they tell the friends of Jesus not to look up into the clouds, but to get busy. It is the message of Jesus himself in Matthew’s Gospel, as he sends them out to baptize. He also tells them, “I am with you al-ways, until the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). And it is this message, confident in faith that Jesus has ascended to shouts of joy, that “pulls” us along to our final destiny. The life of the faithful disciple, sent into the world on mission, will one day know the same risen, ascended glory. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Parish News & Events

Let us pray for those members of our parish who are sick and suffering. If you would like a visit from Fr. Patrick, please call the parish office at 630-851-1436 to schedule a visit. Our parish has joined a Catholic website called FORMED. This website is loaded with articles, videos, eBooks, and much more—all of which are thoroughly Catholic. You simply go to this website: https://formed.org (This is a secure site, which is why there is an “s” in the address). Once there, there will be a spot to enter our parish access code, which is 6MMWKC. We have unlimited access to everything on the site. I hope that you take advantage of this site, and pray that it will be beneficial to you. Fr. Patrick

Rediscovering Your Catholic Faith From the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church

Part Three: Life In Christ Section Two: The Ten Commandments CHAPTER TWO “You Shall Love Your Neighbor as Yourself” The Eighth Commandment: You Shall Not Covet Your Neighbor’s possessions 531. What is required and what is forbidden by the tenth commandment? This commandment, which completes the preceding commandment, requires an interior attitude of respect for the property of others and forbids greed, unbridled covetousness for the goods of others, and envy which is the sadness one experiences at the sight of another’s goods and immoderate desire to acquire them for oneself. 532. What does Jesus call for in poverty of spirit? Jesus calls his disciples to prefer him to everything and everyone. Detachment from riches—in the spirit of evangelical poverty—and the self-abandonment to divine providence free us from anxiety about the future and prepare us for the blessedness of the “poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:3) 533. What is the greatest human desire? The greatest desire of the human person is to see God. “I want to see God” is the cry of our whole being. We realize our true and full happiness in the vision and beatitude of the One who created us out of love and draws us to himself with infinite love.

“Whoever sees God has obtained all the goods of which he can conceive.” (Saint Gregory of Nyssa)

PART FOUR: CHRISTIAN PRAYER SECTION ONE: PRAYER IN THE CHRISTIAN LIFE All times are good for prayer. The Church, however, proposes special times to the faithful to stress and nurture continual prayer: morning and evening prayer, prayers before and after meals, the Liturgy of the Hours, the Sunday Eucharist, the rosary, and the feast of the liturgical year. 534. What is prayer? Prayer is the raising of one’s mind and heart to God, or the petition of good things from him in accord with his will. It is always the gift of God who comes to encounter man. Christian prayer is the personal and liv-ing relationship of the children of God with their Father who is infinitely good, with his Son Jesus Christ, and with the Holy Spirit who dwells in their hearts.
