Goals of the Classroom

•Develop a caring and respectful classroom.

•Foster independence and make sure students feel comfortable taking risks when participating in activities and completing assignments.

•Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of the students.

•Teach the Common Core Standards for 4th grade.

Homework Procedures and Expectations

•Every morning, students copy their homework into their planners.•Homework is always a review or an extension of what is

taught in class.•For each subject, students receive a homework grade. For

every assignment that is missed, the homework grade will be lowered.•Please sign your child’s planner each night, after you know

that he/she has completed all of his/her assignments.•Board Policy:

-Teachers are not allowed to provide homework in advance when vacations are taken when school is in session. We suggest students keep a writing journal and read a book.

-After the 2nd day of an illness, homework may be requested.• 100 Minute Reading Sheet is due every Monday.

Literacy Workshop• Comprehension Tool Kit: Teaches students how to monitor and apply comprehension

strategies when reading a text.

• Independent Reading: Students will read a book independently and are expected to respond to their reading by writing/typing/blogging a response. Students will have access to the on-line reading program RAZ-Kids

• Guided Reading/Book Clubs: Small group instruction to practice comprehension skills and discuss the text.

• Word Study/Vocabulary: Students will have access to Spelling City, which is an internet site where students can complete activities to practice their word study and vocabulary words. We will also be doing weekly activities with higher-level words to enhance students’ vocabulary.

Birthdays and Nutrition

• If you plan on celebrating your child’s birthday in school, you must adhere to Warren’s nutrition policy. Please refer to the approved snack/party list that was sent home earlier this year.

• The ingredient label must accompany the birthday treat. Please include napkins or plates.

• All snacks must be approved by the school nurse for allergies. Our snack time is usually at 10:15AM. Please drop off your items at the main office by 9:30AM.
