MAXIMUM Transferable CreditsIf you are transferring from a community college – NO MORE THAN 60 credits will be transferable.

If you are transferring from a four-year college – NO MORE THAN 90 credits will be transferable.

Transfer Students & The Core Curriculum–Lower Tier

You are exempt from the lower tier IF

You have EITHER an Associate of Arts (AA) or an Associate of Science (AS) Degree

ORYou have 60 or more transfer credits – of which 30 are liberal arts credits – from a domestic four year college

Students with an AAS Degree are NOT EXEMPT from the Lower Tier of the Core

There are NO EXEMPTIONS from the Upper Tier of the Core.

You must complete the Upper Tier of the Core while in residence at Brooklyn College.

Major RequirementsMake sure you have declared your major before reaching 60 credits

You can declare your major by going to the department, or you can do it online through the student portal.

Consult the Bulletin and meet the departmental advisors to ensure you are satisfying all degree requirements. Meet with the departmental major advisor before registering every semester.

Selecting a minor or choosing elective courses…

120 credits are required for graduation.You may complete the Core and major requirements and not have 120 credits. You have two options.

You can pursue a minor course of study by meeting with a departmental advisor.You can choose electives based on your interest.

CUNY Proficiency Exam (CPE)

Required of all students pursuing a baccalaureate degree.Must be taken after completing 45 credits – students must register for the CPE at the Testing OfficeStudent must be in good academic standing (2.0 GPA)Must have completed all CUNY basic skills requirements.Exam may be taken up to 3 times.

Dropping CoursesStudents may drop courses up until the deadline in the Schedule of Classes

Dropped courses do not appear on your transcript.

Students may withdraw from courses up until the deadline in the Schedule of Classes

Withdrawals appear as a “W” on your transcript.

ACADEMIC PROBATION

ACADEMIC PROBATION POLICY(AS OF SPRING, 2003)

All undergraduate students with cumulative grade point averages (GPA) below 2.0 are on academic probation and will have an Undergraduate Probation stop on their transcript.

Students on academic probation are required to meet the following conditions to continue to register at Brooklyn College:

You must earn a 2.30 GPA or better for each semester you are on probation

You must bring your cumulative GPA to 2.00 or higher within three successive semesters (including the initial semester on probation)

You must meet with an academic advisor by scheduling an Academic Advisement Probation Workshop and meet with your major Advisor. Students must declare a major prior to achieving 60 credits

You will be limited to a maximum of 6 credits/credit hours (or fewer credits if your GPA is extremely low).

Failure to meet any of these requirements will result in dismissal from Brooklyn College
