capitalism and free enterprise? (2) What is the primary purpose offree enterprise? Hint: It is not making money. (3) What is the fault inthe practice of free enterprise, which is based originally on thewritings of America’s other founding father in 1776? He feels that this“defect” in the practice of free enterprise is the root cause of incomeinequality and wealth disparity in America today. Marshall poses one more question, “what really is America’seconomic policy?” He believes that rediscovering free enterprise isimperative to our freedom and that of future generations. Now retired, Bill Marshall was the Treasurer of Nalco ChemicalCompany, a Fortune 250 industrial company specializing in globalwater treatment. He is a former Navy Lieutenant, Naval Flight Officerand Mission Commander. He is a Distinguished Eagle Scout. Billearned a degree in industrial engineering from LeHigh University,studied business at the Wharton School of the University ofPennsylvania, and is a graduate of the Advanced ManagementProgram of the Harvard Business School. He is married, lives inEstes Park, and has one daughter, an equine veterinarian. Marshall has written two books, Rich Shareowner, PoorShareowner and Money Ain’t Free, both of which were selectedamong the year’s top investment books by “Stock Trader’sAlmanac.” He is completing a third book, Rediscovering FreeEnterprise: Freedom’s Imperative. Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders whoprovide humanitarian service and help to build goodwill and peace inthe world. There are 1.2 million Rotary members in 34,000 Rotaryclubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. Rotaryclubs have been serving communities worldwide for more than acentury. Rotary clubs around the world initiate projects that addresscritical issues such as conflict resolution, hunger, poverty, diseaseand illiteracy. The Rotary Club of Estes Park meets Thursdays at the Rodeway Innin Estes Park, located at 1701 North Lake Avenue on Highway 34just west of Dry Gulch Road. Please note our new Rotary location. Visitors interested in learning more about Rotary and its programs arewelcome to attend. Buffet is served at 11:30 a.m., the Rotarybusiness meeting opens at noon, and the program begins at 12:30p.m.

Sept. 15 meeting notes President Thor Homme called the meeting to order. Anne Slack gavethe invocation. Dave Evans led us in singing “I’d Like To Teach TheWorld To Sing”, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. WayneNewsom led guest introductions. We welcomed Gary Sampson fromBranson, Missouri. Richard Kimple has been with us all summer andhe introduced his brother Steven. Bob Brunson introduced his guestLes Foiles. Bob Benight introduced his son Mike. Jeff Boring isvisiting us for the third time. He is Executive Director of the EstesValley Land Trust. Announcements

Chuck Bonza says there are two more Farmers’ Markets towork. Scott Thompson needs help serving beer at Elk Fest in BondPark the first weekend of October.Karol Rinehart thanked everyone for helping to make thissuch an easy transition to our new location.Big Duck Greg Jurgens said the Duck Race committee willmeet October 13 at 5:00. Tara Moenning said the Shred-a-Thon will be October 15starting at 9:00 until the truck is full.Thor said that beginning in January, the fourth Thursdays willbe for committee meetings. We will gather at Rodeway asusual for lunch and our business routine and then in theprogram slot we will break up into committees who havebusiness to conduct. September 29 is the fifth Thursday so there will be nomeeting.Thor asked us to help the committee in getting an accuratemeal count. To be safe we have been ordering extra meals

Robert Ludlum is happy to be celebrating his 67th weddinganniversary.Tara Moenning followed Robert’s lead by saying that she andPhil just celebrated their 53rd anniversary.Brad Rosenbaum then bravely offered that he and Jenniferhave been married 12 years now.Jess Nielsen put forth a challenge—he will donate $200 tobuying a new electric piano if the membership matches. Heasked Thor to appoint a chair who then asked Karol Rinehartwho said yes she will investigate obtaining an electric piano.

Is it weighing you down? Keeping you from having a clean office, aneat desk or a clutter-free storage room? Tired of feeding papers toyour puny shredder, three sheets at a time? The Rotary Club of EstesPark can help you reach those paper-free goals! Come and contribute your excess paperwork at the Estes ParkRotary Club Shred-a-Thon on Saturday, October 15. You can drop offyour items between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. or until the truck is full. Justdrive to the Event Center parking lot off of Manford Avenue in EstesPark.

“Community shred days are part of our commitment to the preventionof identity theft and our support for recycling,” said Tara Moenning,event coordinator. Items appropriate for shredding are:
