SPECIAL COLLECTION FOR THE CHURCH IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE This week our special collection supports the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. Your donation today helps restore the Church and build the future in more than 25 countries still struggling to recover from former commu-nist rule. Funds from this collection support reconstruc-tion, education, formation, and poverty outreach. Please be generous to the collection today. For more informa-tion, please visit www.usccb.org/ccee.

BLACK & INDIAN SPECIAL COLLECTION Next week, our parish will take up the 138th annual Na-tional Black and Indian Mission Collection. Our support of this collection helps build the Church in African American, Native American, and Alaska Native commu-nities from coast to coast. Schools, parish religious edu-cation programs, and diocesan ministries depend on your generosity to help them spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

RICE BOWLS A limited number of Rice Bowls are available and ready to be picked up at both Immaculate Conception and St. John the Apostle. Additional resources are available online to be downloaded and shared as needed. And find more digital resources to enrich your community’s Lenten experience at crsricebowl.org.

ASH WEDNESDAY March 2, 2022 Masses will be provided at Immaculate Conception on Wednesday at both 8:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Both Masses will include distribution of ashes.

ASH WEDNESDAY SOUP SUPPER A free (meatless) soup and bread dinner will be served in the Immaculate Conception Parish Hall at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. The Mary and Martha So-dality will host. Donations of meatless soups and breads are requested for the event. Monetary donations will be accepted and added to the Special Catholic Relief Ser-vices (Rice Bowl) Collection.

ROSARY Rosary will now be prayed 1/2 hour before every week-end Mass, every month at the suggestion of Fr. Larry Huber.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL NEWS The St. Vincent De Paul Food Pantry at Im-maculate Conception Church partners with

many agencies, including the U.S. Department of Agri-culture. The USDA is a equal opportunity provider.

Have you ever heard the expression “what goes around comes around”? We usually tend to think of that in a negative way. But it’s also true in a positive way. We need to be kind, charitable, honest, and forgiving, but clear, in speaking out our Chris-tian convictions. We must never remain silent in the face of evil for fear of being thought “politically incorrect.” We need to follow Christ, not political correctness, and to speak the truth of Christ in love and kindness and compassion. Then “what goes around comes around” is a good thing.

-Deacon Mike

STEWARDSHIP OPPORTUNITY The good steward seeks no reward. “Do not love God for the sake of a reward; let God be your reward!” St. Augustine

ST. ELIZABETH MINISTRY What a blessing it must have been for St. Elizabeth to have her cousin, Mary, come and visit her during her pregnancy with St. John. What a relief to have the com-panionship of another mother, the Blessed Mother, to share in the miraculous journey of motherhood. Any pa-rishioners who would like to join in the St. Elizabeth Ministry, an outreach to expecting and new parents in our parish, are welcome to contact me to be added to the ros-ter. Don’t Miss Your Chance to Volunteer for Your Par-ish-Some of you may be asking yourself, what more can I do for my parish? Well, you are in luck! Please choose something from the following list! Additional catechists are needed urgently to lead Children’s Liturgy of the Word on Sunday mornings (call Brenda’s landline at 573-358-7362), more Rosary leaders are needed to guide us in prayer since Rosary is now being offered be-fore the start of every weekend Mass (Karen for Saturday Rosary at 573-358-5188 or Mary for Sunday Rosary at 573-631-2687), we need more altar servers at both par-ishes to help relieve the burden on the youth who are cur-rently serving (Deacon Burch at 573-431-2427), our food pantry always needs more volunteers (Jessie at 573-631-0011) and our choir always welcomes new voices up-stairs in the choir loft at Immaculate Conception (no call necessary, just show up). Prayer List-In these trying times, if you or someone you know needs prayers, please make your request and we will be happy to pass it on to the Prayer Chain. Names can be added to the prayer list anytime. A hand-written list is available near the bulletin board at Immaculate Conception or contact Linda at [email protected]. The prayer list is also posted on the parish website at www.icsja.org. (Please provide updates when to let us know when individuals have recovered, passed away or have an ongoing illness.) ARCHDIOCESAN LENTEN REGULATIONS “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world., but that the world might be saved through him.” (John 3:16-17) The Church has always helped us fulfill these words of Jesus by prescribing very definite penance for all Catho-lics, so that we too might have Eternal life. Accordingly, the Pope and the American Bishops have outlined obliga-tory fast and abstinence as follows: Ash Wednesday (March 2, 2022), all Fridays of Lent and Good Friday (April 15, 2022) are days of absti-nence (refraining from meat) for all Catholics from age 14 onwards. On these two days, fast, as well as absti-nence, is also obligatory for those from the ages of 18-59. Abstinence means refraining from meat. Fast means one full meal a day, with two smaller meals and nothing between meals (liquids are permitted). No Catholic will lightly excuse himself or herself from this obligation.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS Stations of the Cross will be available at both St. John the Apostle and Immaculate Conception once again. St. John the Apostle: Thursdays of Lent at 6:00 p.m. Immaculate Conception: Fridays of Lent at 6:00 p.m. (Noon on Good Friday)

ALL THINGS NEW Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, We have officially launched All Things New, the strategic pas-toral planning process for the Archdiocese of St. Louis. All Things New will evaluate the effectiveness of the Church in St. Louis in proclaiming the Gospel and will identify opportunities for improvement and renewal within all parishes, schools, curia offices and agencies. Why? Why does the Church exist? To make disciples. Not to run hospitals, schools or homeless shelters. These are all good fruits that flow from discipleship...but if we aren’t making dis-ciples, the institutions become hollow. We all know that the Church of today is not the same that it was 50, 100, or 150+ years ago, and yet we are still functioning in many ways out of the same mode of evangelization. We have inherited a great treasure of Catholic institutions from previous generations, but as the Catholic population and society have shifted over the past several decasdes, tehy are no longer as effective or sustain-able as they once were. We are closer now to 2050 than to 1950. We need to ask our-selves what our parishes, ministries and institutions need to look like in order to effectively share the faith in a way that is suitable and sustainable for our children and generations to come. What? We will be utilizing 3 guiding principles for All Things New: *Unceasing Prayer -Prayer resources for individuals and parishes, as well as local and diocesan events will help us to renew our own personal call to holiness and evangelization and to ask the Holy Spirit’s Guidance as we discern what is best for our local Church mov-ing forward. *Unified Vision for Evangelization -Evangelization is the mission Jesus gives to us. To share the Good News is the responsibility of all of us. Yet, only 0.6% of Catholics say that they fell equipped to share their story and invite others into relationship with Jesus and the Church. We need to renew and rediscover this call in our lives. *Intentional Stewardship -The Church is made of living stones, not those of brick and mortar. We cannot allow our attachment to infrastructure to impede our primary mission of building up disciples and saving souls. Empty churches don’t save anyone. How? Your prayers and input are needed. Opportunities for prayer, to provide feedback and to attend listening sessions will be occurring all across the Archdiocese. We invite you to stay informed and sign up for regular updates on the All Things New website at AllThingsNew.Archstl.org. Sign up today! Steadfast in Faith, Forward in Hope. God Bless, Rev. Chris Martin
