We will have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every Friday beginning with Mass at 7:30 am and ending with Benediction at 12:00 pm. We will continue with our Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on First Fridays beginning at the 7:30 am Mass, Benediction at 12:00 pm, and Adoration until the 5:00 pm Mass.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION It's midsummer day! We have the advantage of celebrating one of the great hidden treasures of our liturgical calendar on a Sunday this year. There are only three "nativity" feasts on our calendar: for the Lord, the Blessed Mother (September 8), and today's birth of the Baptist. Today's date is anchored by the Annunciation (March 25), when Mary learns not only of her own child's advent, but of Elizabeth's child. We are exactly half a year away from Christmas Eve. There are strong traditions around this feast. Just as the winter solstice provides a rich vocabulary for Christmas, so does the abundance of light at midsummer inform this celebration. Just as at Christmas, a religious festival spills over into culture. As summer light reaches its peak, the sun-drenched zones of northern Europe see people staying up all night, lighting "St. John's fires" in the long summer twilight. Bonfires seem to be the unifying force in all these celebrations, kindled along the shores of the St. Lawrence in Quebec and Montreal, with harbor illuminations in France. You may be most interested in the custom in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the Baptist's own city. People there will leap into the sea between midnight and dawn to honor John. JUAN EL BAUTISTA Ya que el 24 de junio de este año cae en domingo, la Iglesia tiene la oportunidad para una celebración más vibrante del nacimiento de Juan el Bautista, a quien se le describe como el último de los profetas del Antiguo Testamento y también como el puente entre el judaísmo y el cristianismo. Comúnmente a Juan se le conoce como el "precursor" de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Todos los evangelios narran el mensaje básico de Juan: Arrepiéntanse, el Reino de Dios está cerca. Uno más grande que yo está cerca. Aunque él era un predicador itinerante, vestido con piel de camello, que comía saltamontes; el legado de Juan es uno de verdadera realeza. Sus orígenes son parecidos a aquellos anunciados por Dios por medio del profeta Isaías "Tú eres mi siervo, Israel; en ti manifestaré mi gloria". TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Hoy recordamos a san Juan Bautista, primo de Jesucristo y precursor del Mesías. Juan se hizo famoso predicando la penitencia y bautizando con agua, insistiendo que vendría uno que bautizaría al mundo con fuego y el Espíritu Santo. Hoy es uno de los santos mas festejados en el mundo, especialmente en zonas donde su fiesta coincidía con la llegada del verano. Para celebrar a este santo pariente de Jesús la gente en Alicante, España, hace fogatas durante la noche de su vigilia y baila en torno a ellas. En América el pueblo Boliviano también recibe al santo con hogueras, para quemar la tierra en busca de fertilidad y purificación. Los Bolivianos también festejan echándose agua los unos a los otros. San Juan ha sido honrado en el hemisferio Americano desde 1509 cuando Juan Ponce de León nombró la Isla de Puerto Rico en su honor. Luật mới tại Úc và ấn tòa giải tội
Theo Catholic News Agency, một luật mới tại Canberra, nước Úc, sẽ đòi các linh mục Công giáo ở thủ đô tiết lộ bí mật tòa giải tội khi có người đến cho biết về sự lạm dụng trẻ em. Luật này, có hiệu lực từ 31 tháng Ba, 2019, đã gây phản kháng mạnh mẽ từ giới lãnh đạo Công giáo. Đức cha Christopher Prowse, tổng giám mục Canberra và Goulburn, tuyên bố rằng nếu các linh mục không còn giữ bí mật tòa giải tội (gọi là ấn tòa giải tội – seal of confession) thì còn ai muốn xưng tội, và những kẻ lạm dụng trẻ con lại càng không muốn đến tòa giải tội. Trong bài báo ngày 6 tháng Sáu trên nhật báo Canberra Times, ngài cảnh cáo rằng “chính phủ đe dọa tự do tôn giáo khi tự cho mình là một chuyên viên về các thực hành tôn giáo, và khi muốn thay đổi bí tích giải tội… Điều đáng buồn là việc vi phạm ấn tòa giải tội sẽ chẳng ngăn cản được sự lạm dụng và sẽ không hữu ích cho những nỗ lực đang có để cải tiến sự an toàn cho trẻ em.” Đằng khác, ngài nói rằng các linh mục không nhất thiết biết người xưng tội là ai, nhất là khi họ xưng tội sau một bức màn. Các nhà chính trị cũng nói lên mối lo âu về luật mới. Ông Andrew Wall, dân biểu của Canberra, nói rằng nhiều điều khoản trong luật mới đúng ra phải được áp dụng từ lâu, nhưng ông bất đồng với việc đụng chạm đến tòa giải tội. Ông cho rằng bắt buộc các linh mục phải vi phạm ấn tòa giải tội “là một đụng chạm nghiêm trọng đến quyền tự do nhập hội, tự do bày tỏ, và tự do tôn giáo.” Theo luật Hội thánh, các linh mục phải tuyệt đối giữ bí mật tòa giải tội trong mọi hoàn cảnh, và nếu vi phạm ấn tòa giải tội, sẽ bị vạ tuyệt thông tức khắc.

Người ta chỉ lớn lên khi ra khỏi mình, ra khỏi những bận tâm về mình. Người ta chỉ lớn hết mức khi không còn coi mình là trung tâm. Trung tâm được đặt nơi Thiên Chúa và tha nhân. Đức Giêsu đã từng khẳng định rằng trong con cái loài người, không ai lớn hơn ông Gioan Tẩy Giả (x. Mt 11,11). Gioan lớn vì ông là vị ngôn sứ giới thiệu trực tiếp Đấng Mêsia là Đức Giêsu, một điều mà không một ngôn sứ nào trong Cựu Ước được diễm phúc làm.
Nhưng Gioan cũng lớn vì ông đã chấp nhận nhỏ đi: “Người phải lớn lên, còn tôi phải nhỏ lại” (Ga 3, 30).
