to the CSA, pledge envelopes can be found in the back

of the church, or you can give online at

www.biloxidiocese.org.

We extend our deepest sympathy and prayers for peace and comfort to Elnora Ladner on the death of her husband, Kerman Ladner, and to all of his family and friends.

We also extend condolences to the family and friends of Margarite Daley, especially to Buddy Cospelich on the death of his dear friend.

May Kerman and Margarite and all the souls of the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

A Prayer for Christian Fathers

Heavenly Father,

you entrusted your Son Jesus,

the child of Mary,

to the care of Joseph, an earthly father.

Bless all fathers

as they care for their families.

Give them strength and wisdom,

tenderness and patience;

support them in the work they have to do,

protecting those who look to them,

as we look to you for love and salvation,

Since it looks like we’re going to be in it for the long

haul …

To comply with diocesan directives for the

protection of individuals worshipping together,

those attending Mass are encouraged to wear masks

to cover their mouth and nose. We have disposable

masks available, but we respectfully request that you

bring your own when you come to Mass. Thanks to

Mrs. Mary Repp, we have some cloth masks that can

be washed and reused. They are available on a first

come-first served basis and can be obtained from a

member of the Church Staff.

Catholic School Tuition Assistance 2020-2021

Catholic school registration has begun and

Catholic schools in South Mississippi will open

with a traditional schedule on August 6, 2020 . If

you have a child attending Catholic School and

will need tuition assistance for the upcoming

school year, please contact Fr. Satish. In order to

receive tuition assistance, you must be a registered

member of the parish, attend church regularly,

contribute to the upkeep of the Church and

participate in the ministries of the parish.

Happy Father’s Day and many

blessings to all our fathers!

who love us and support us

through life;

Did You Know?

Over 50% of all adults neglect to make out a Last

Will and Testament; and of those who have one,

many do not keep it up to date. Think about getting

your will made or having it reviewed – it provides a

plan for distributing your hard-earned estate. And

while you’re at it, please consider helping St. John

the Evangelist Catholic Church through a bequest.

In addition, stocks and bonds, especially if

appreciated in value over the years, can cost you or

your heirs a lot of capital gains taxes, but they can

also make substantial gifts to St. John. Please

consider such a gift.

Saint John Fisher (1469-1535)

and

Saint Thomas More (1477-1535)

June 22

From Robert Bolt’s classic A Man for All Seasons to

Showtime’s edgy The Tudors, Thomas More endears

himself still: lawyer-statesman of impeccable

integrity, remarried widower and affectionate father

delighting in a lively household—four children, a pet

monkey, even a paid jester! And challenges still:

humanist-reformer, yet champion of Catholic faith

and papal primacy. John Paul II named him Patron of

Statesmen and Politicians, citing More’s generous

work, both as a lawyer and in government service,

on behalf of the poorest and most marginalized

people of his time, as well as his promotion of

education for all sectors of society. More’s decision

for principle over politics, conscience over

convenience prompted his final words: “I die the

king’s good servant, but God’s first.” Alone among

England’s bishops, John Fisher dared challenge

Henry VIII’s divorce and repudiation of the papacy.

When the Pope named the imprisoned Fisher a

cardinal, Henry thundered: “Don’t bother sending

Fisher’s red hat here; I’ll send Fisher’s head to

Rome!” Whose “good servants” are we first? Isn’t a

right conscience worth the pain of standing alone? —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Graduate yard signs can be picked up from the

Memorial Room on the weekend and from the

Parish Office on weekdays.
