How to make a passport:1. Cut out a rectangle from a construction paper (this will be your cover).2. Fold it in half.3. Fill out the first page that will go inside your book.4. Staple the first page and filler pages into your book.5. Decorate your cover.
Glossary:
DetourA choice between two different ways to accomplish a goal or reach a destination. On the surface, one may seem easy but involves some sort of twist; the other may seem difficult but in the end may be the quicker choice.
Fast ForwardTeams may claim only 5 FAST FORWARDS during the entire race. To earn a fast forward, a team must complete 5 out of 5 questions for the appropriate task in that country. Each country task card will describe the Fast Forward feature. Fast Forward enables a team to skip the Pit Stop (see below.)
Pit StopThe final destination for each leg of a race, at which point a Team must "clock in." A Pit Stop is a built in break in the Race. Even if a team opts for a Fast Forward, they still must “clock in” with Mrs. Karpowich, however, they will simply continue in the race without a Pit Stop.

Detour:
In order to proceed to your next destination, you must build your own Inuksuk.
Inuksuk means “a thing that can act in the place of a human being.” The Inuits used
them to tell mark fishing areas, dangerous places, food storage, and travel. You may
use any of the materials in the classroom. Once it is drawn or built, show your teacher
and if she approves, she will give you your next clue. Get to it!(hint: Look online to find a picture of an Inuksuk… Remember the 2010 Van Couver Olympics?)

Aborigines are Australia's indigenous people. Recent government statistics counted approximately 400,000 aboriginal people, or about 2% of Australia's total population. Australian Aborigines migrated from somewhere in Asia at least 30,000 years ago. Though they comprise 500–600 distinct groups, aboriginal people possess some unifying links. Among these are strong spiritual beliefs that tie them to the land; a tribal culture of storytelling and art; and, like other indigenous populations, a difficult colonial history. Research about this group of Australians, and their culture. Include “The Dreamtime,” storytelling, art, the didgeridoo, and explore how this group is similar to Native Americans.

Task 2: Make a detailed travel brochure for the Hot Thermal Springs in New Zealand. Include
pictures, locations, and an explanation of what they are and how they’re formed, and how they’re
used. One attraction in New Zealand is their “Amazing Maze ‘n’ Maize.”
Task 3: Visit http://www.maze.co.nz/ and explore the world of Maze ‘n’ Maizes!! Explore the
website, and write an article for a newspaper as if you are a reporter. Your article should be not only
about the Mazes, but about the site as well. In addition to the news article, your task is to build your
own “Amazing Maze” using construction paper, string and glue. Make sure there is only one way
out and don’t make it too easy, or you’ll have to try again!!

You and your partner need to accomplish two tasks here. You will need to make a
“cartouche” for each of you using hieroglyphics. You should be able to explain what it

Research the history of this famous structure. Give the details in an essay,
power point, or method of your choice. Include the architect, important
dates, explanation for leaning, etc…
Task 2: Make a timeline to depict Italy’s history. Begin from approximately
600 B.C.E. and go up to present day.

Pit StopsTake turns rolling 1 and 2 dice to determine your pitstop. (Example, after New York, roll 1 die. After Switzerland, roll 2 dice.) The number on which it lands determines which pitstop you take.
1. Ask at least 5 teachers what their favorite location they’ve ever visited. Don’t ask more than 1 teacher on a grade level! Include at least one “specials” teacher.
