Franciscan University offers
Fatima Statue Indulgence Site
In honor of the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of
Our Lady of Fatima, Catholics can now receive a plenary
indulgence with a prayerful visit to the statue of Our La-
dy of Fatima at the University’s Christ the King Chapel.
Placed in the narthex of the Chapel, the statue of Our La-
dy of Fatima must be visited on the 13th of each month
until Oct.13, 2017, to receive the indulgence. Pope Fran-
cis has granted a plenary indulgence “to the pious faithful
who visit a statue of Our Lady of Fatima solemnly ex-
posed for public veneration.”
To gain a plenary indulgence, one must recite an Our Fa-
ther and the Creed and invoke Our Lady of Fatima’s in-
tercession while praying before the statue. One must be
completely detached from sin and receive the sacrament
of confession and the Holy Eucharist within 10 days be-
fore or after venerating the statue.
On Franciscan’s campus, the Portiuncula Chapel has also
been designated by the Vatican as a place where the
faithful can obtain plenary indulgences on any of 5 occa-
sions yearly since 2009. Christ the King Chapel is open
every day from 6:00 am to midnight.
We are in need of additional ushers to as-
sist at the Extraordinary Form Mass on
Sundays at Noon. If you are available to
assist, please contact Father Huffman.
