Catholics try to participate in the Holy Mass every day if possible and receive the Lord in the Holy Eucharist. This helps one to maintain the communion with the Lord in a very personal way and feel His presence in us throughout the day. Daily Devotions like novenas, special prayers to favorite saints, visit to the Lord in the Tabernacle in the church, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament are all basic characteristics of Catholic spiritual tradition. Daily family Rosary and consecration of the whole family to the Heart of Jesus and to the Immaculate Heart of Mary are common in every devout family. As the tree is known from its fruit, so can we easily recognize such a family from the behavior of the kids from those families. The very fact that the whole family remains closer to Jesus and Blessed Mother, constantly seeking grace and protection through such devotions, prepares the minds of children to be true Catholics wherever they are. Such children display an emotional, intellectual and spiritual discipline and integrity which is lacking in average kids. When disturbed by stressful moments they turn to the Lord and Blessed Mother for help. They are open to seek help from their parents and will not lie or hide from them. There is a lot of joy and trust in those families. Parents cannot wait to get home from their tiring work. Children run into the house from their school looking for parents or keep waiting at the door for the parents to return from work. The love and joy that are manifested are the fruits of a true Catholic Family alive in its spiritual tradition. Like every human situation, there will be pain and suffering, stress and stressful events, conflicts and dis-cords in relationships, communication issues and temperamental outbursts, and so on in Catholic families too. But they will not take them to the public. They ap-proach for a good confession and recognize individual responsibility in causing such issues which disturb the family atmosphere. They open their hearts for the Lord’s grace to heal and usher in the healing process in their relationships as well. This is true Catholic Tradition. This is the sign that our hearts are ruled by the Lord not the world. The reign of God is alive in such hearts. This is why the celebration of the Feast of Christ the King is important in the Catholic Tradition. Jesus is the King of our lives and King of the universe. We have a spontaneous loyalty and attachment Jesus. Feast is the opportunity to proclaim it and to celebrate as a believing community. We have to train our children how to make our hearts as the Kingdom of Jesus where He is venerated as the King. We have to help them develop a loyalty and attachment to Jesus and how to pray to Him in every life situation. God bless you all.

Los católicos intentan participar en la Santa Misa todos los días si es posible y recibir al Señor en la Sagrada Eucaristía. Esto ayuda a mantener la comunión con el Señor de una manera muy personal y a sentir su presencia en nosotros durante todo el día. Las devociones diarias como las novenas, las oraciones especiales a los santos favoritos, la visita al Señor en el Tabernáculo en la iglesia, la Adoración del Santísimo Sacramento son características básicas de la tradición espiritual católica. El rosario familiar diario y la consagración de toda la familia al Corazón de Jesús y al Inmaculado Corazón de María son comunes en todas las familias devotas. Como el árbol es conocido por su fruto, podemos reconocer fácilmente a esa familia por el comportamiento de los niños de esas familias. El hecho mismo de que toda la familia permanezca más cerca de Jesús y de la Santísima Madre, buscando constantemente la gracia y la protección a través de tales devociones, prepara las mentes de los niños para ser verdaderos católicos donde sea que estén. Dichos niños muestran una disciplina e integridad emocional, intelectual y espiritual que les falta a los niños promedio. Cuando se sienten perturbados por momentos estresantes, recurren al Señor y a la Santísima Madre en busca de ayuda. Están abiertos a buscar ayuda de sus padres y no les mentirán ni se esconderán de ellos. Hay mucha alegría y confianza en esas familias. Los padres no pueden esperar para llegar a casa de su trabajo agotador. Los niños corren a la casa desde su escuela buscando padres o siguen esperando en la puerta a que los padres regresen del trabajo. El amor y la alegría que se manifiestan son los frutos de una verdadera familia católica viva en su tradición espiritual. Como toda situación humana, habrá dolor y sufrimiento, estrés y eventos estresantes, conflictos y discordias en las relaciones, problemas de comunicación y arrebatos de temperamento, y también en las familias católicas. Pero no los llevarán al público. Se acercan para una buena confesión y reconocen la responsabilidad individual al causar problemas que perturban el ambiente familiar. Abren sus corazones para que la gracia del Señor sane y también marque el comienzo del proceso de curación en sus relaciones. Esta es la verdadera tradición católica. Esta es la señal de que nuestros corazones están gobernados por el Señor, no por el mundo. El reino de Dios está vivo en tales corazones. Es por eso que la celebración de la fiesta de Cristo Rey es importante en la tradición católica. Jesús es el rey de nuestras vidas y el rey del universo. Tenemos una lealtad espontánea y apego a Jesús. La fiesta es la oportunidad de proclamarlo y celebrarlo como una comunidad creyente. Tenemos que entrenar a nuestros hijos para hacer nuestros corazones como el Reino de Jesús, donde es venerado como el Rey. Tenemos que ayudarlos a desarrollar una lealtad y un apego a Jesús y cómo orarle en cada situación de la vida. Dios los bendiga a todos.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Today’s solemnity, the final feast of the Church year, is a youngster as feasts go. In 1925, Pope Pius XI was distressed by global political upheaval and the de-Christianizing of society. That year was a “Holy Year,” keyed to the sixteen hundredth anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, when the words “and of his kingdom there will be no end” were added to the Creed. The Pope explained that although most feasts had developed over many centuries, the Church sometimes provided a new feast to address new needs. He pointed to the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, showing Christ’s love and compassion in a time when many people embraced a cold and gloomy spirituality. Originally on the last Sunday of October, in the late 1960s the solemnity of Christ the King was moved to the last Sunday of the year.
**Sacrament of Baptism—Baptism is a highly sacred event and deserves careful and complete readiness. Please contact the church office (336-629-0221) to register for the Baptism Preparation Class, which is done on a regular basis. Parents must be registered and participating members of our parish community
**Sacrament of Marriage - Couples should contact the Pastor (336-629-0221) at least 6 months prior to the wedding date for necessary preparation.
**Ministry of the Sick— Please call the church office (336-629-0221) to inform us of an illness or hospitalization of a family member. Federal Privacy Law prohibits the hospital from giving room numbers, so we must have prior knowledge of a pa-tient’s room number before we visit the hospital. The Sacrament of Anointing is done upon request prior to surgery or a illness.

The King of Hearts
Are you aware that today’s joyous feast is not even one hundred years old? In his 1925 encyclical Quam
Primas, Pius XI established the feast of Christ the King. Remember what the world was like in those days—the rise
of nationalism and secularism in Europe and un-Godly false prophets, leading inexorably to the Passion of the
Holocaust and wide-ranging martyrdoms. No wonder the pope was anxious to show the world a true King! Saint
Luke today goes straight to the heart of kingship, of a king’s devotion to his beloved people. In this topsy-turvy
kingdom, we see not a king decked in power and glory, but the crucified “King of the Jews” who robes himself in
the suffering of a sad and lonely world. His forgiveness and heart-breaking love throughout his passion is a hard
act for humans to follow, and yet Jesus gives us his life and death as a model. And then he tells us that, along with
the “good criminal,” we will be with him “in Paradise.” What more could we ever ask?
It is fitting that Pius’ encyclical ties this royal feast to the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This King who
gave his heart to humanity in the sacrificial love feast of Good Friday gives his heart every day to a broken world
still trying to figure out who he is.
