Aims for Today• Today’s aims are that by the end of the session you will:

1. Be better prepared to support students prepare for exams and major coursework deadlines (Task 1).

2. Develop individual and team strategies to develop the REACH characteristic of growth mindset in your students (Task 2).

3. Develop your understanding of the REACH characteristics of being fearless and turning setbacks into successes (Task 3).

4. Increase your awareness of the power of expectant language to raise student aspirations and increase the challenge for our most able students (Task 4).

5. In teams define your three REACH priorities for the remainder of the academic year (Task 5).

Get Going

• Please press the reachprogramme app link on the iPad.

• Choose which order you are going to complete the 1-4 paired task in.

• Record your plans on your venn diagram for each of the four tasks.

• Your completed venn diagram will then feed into your team time, and setting your three team REACH priorities for the remainder of the year.

Task: 1 (Aim 1)In pairs (with someone from different team), exhibition hall from 0830-0930.

• Aim: Better prepare students for exams and coursework deadlines.

• REACH category: – (1) Proactive. – (2) Practice.

• Student REACH habit / mindset / skill: – (1) Proactive – balancing priorities and

organising themselves.– (2) Practice - Quality resources, weekly

schedule, commitment to independent study and different methods.

• Step – 1: Read and review attachments on Revision Planning page on reachprogramme.org

• Step – 2: Discuss with your partner how you will achieve these aims with your students.

• Step – 3: Outline plans on your individual venn diagram to achieve the outcome(s) below.

Outcome: That by the Easter holidays all students will have a REACH – Exam Countdown Planner (or equivalent for BTEC and coursework based subjects) and REACH – Great File Checklist completed for each of their subject files. SMT will check student files for completion of this in the fortnight after the Easter holidays.

Task: 2 (Aim 2)In pairs (with someone from different team), exhibition hall from 0830-0930.

• Aim: Developing a growth mindset in your students

• REACH category: – (3) Growth Mindset.

• Student REACH habit / mindset / skill: – (3) Growth Mindset – embracing

challenges, being persistent, giving all out effort, learning from criticism and embracing challenges.

• Step – 1: Read and watch video on Developing a Growth Mindset page on reachprogramme.org

• Step – 2: Discuss with your partner how you will achieve these aims with your students.

• Step – 3: Outline plans on your individual venn diagram to achieve the outcome(s) below.

Outcome: That from Wednesday 12 March all teachers will be more aware of how to develop a growth mindset in their students and will actively promote and develop these principles with all of their students.

• Aim: Developing fearless students who turn setbacks into successes

• REACH category: – (5) Fearless.

• Student REACH habit / mindset / skill: – (5) Fearless– turn setbacks

into successes

• Step – 1: Read and watch video on REACH Students are ‘Gritty’ page on reachprogramme.org

• Step – 2: Discuss with your partner how you will achieve these aims with your students.

• Step – 3: Outline plans on your individual venn diagram to achieve the outcome(s) below (add to Growth Mindset section on Venn Diagram).

Outcome: That from Wednesday 12 March all teachers will be more aware of how to develop fearless students who turn setbacks into successes and will immediately promote and develop these principles.

Task: 4 (Aim 4)In pairs (with someone from different team), exhibition hall from 0830-0930.

• Aim: Use expectant language to raise the aspirations and increase MTG achievement of your students

• REACH category: – (3) Growth Mindset.

• Student REACH habit / mindset / skill: – (5) Growth Mindset– embrace

challenges

• Step – 1: Read the Power of Expectant Language page on reachprogramme.org

• Step – 2: Discuss with your partner how you will achieve these aims with your students.

• Step – 3: Outline plans on your individual venn diagram to achieve the outcome(s) below.

Outcome: That from Wednesday 12 March all teachers will raise the expectancy of their communication with students. Challenge students to not only meet but exceed their MTG. Need to achieve 70% MTG attainment for College target to be met.

Task: 5 (Aim 5)In teams, learning zones from 0940-1040.

• Aim: That every team defines their three key REACH priorities for the remainder of the academic year.

• REACH category: – All

• Student REACH habit / mindset / skill: – All

• Step – 1: At the team time discuss individual venn diagrams completed during previous session.

• Step – 2: Discuss with the team the team REACH priorities.

• Step – 3: CTM complete and return the email template for upload to REACH website for all priorities to be uploaded.

Outcome: That from Wednesday 12 March all teams will have defined their REACH priorities and have this published online. Focus 1 is a whole College target for before Easter with SMT checks during the first two weeks of the summer term.
