Super Students of Room 113

This month the grade 5 and 6 students in room 113 are working diligently on their

superhero stories, artwork, and comics.

They first began by writing simple, quickly drawn comics about moments in their lives.

After becoming familiar with comic creating, the students created their own personal, fully

planned out, superhero character. Their hero has unique abilities, an alter ego, supporting

characters, and a nemesis.

The students created a physical 3d clay bust of their hero in the Art with the guidance

of Ms. Woods. In ELA each student in 113 have completed story #1 of a four-part short story

writing unit. The writing unit is based on their superhero character. Story #1 was the “Origin”

story of their hero. The students will adapt their short stories into comic versions after Spring

Break. By the end of the school year, the students will have four short stories based on their

own hero, and the universe the hero resides in. They will have a painted 3d clay bust of their

hero, as well as accompanying comic strips and artwork all stemming from their imagination.

The ideas and creations the students have come up with are amazing, and I am so

excited to see where they take their heroes next!
