“Cometome,allofyouwhoarewearyandburdened,andIwillgiveyourest.”Matthew11:28Ican’tevenbegintotellyouhowexcitedmyfamilyandIaretobebackinPuebloandjoiningtheWesleyUMCfamily!Moving,Covid-19,andotherissueshavemadethisatransitionunlikeanyotherbutIcontinuetobefilledwiththesameexcitementandanticipationaswhenIfirstmetthechurchleadersduringmyintroductionsomanymonthsago!Churchwilllookdifferentforalittlewhileyet.Wewillbemeetingoutsideandforsomethatjustseemsabsolutelycrazyandunreal.IamremindedofthecountlesstimesJesusperformedmiracles,healings,teachings,andgavesermonsoutside.Ithinkthatwewilljusttemporarilybeheadingbacktoourroots.AsIwritethis,justadayaftergettingallourstuffmovedintotheparsonage,Iamstaringatboxesandtotesallaroundus.Asexhaustingasitwastomoveourhouseandallourbelongings,nowtherealchallengingpartcomes.
Wehavetounpackandstartfindingalltheessentials.Partofthechallengeisthatwesimplywanttobedoneandbacktonormalbutwearen’tquitethereyet.Ithinkthesamecanbesaidforourchurch.We’vecomethroughalotwithbeingshutdownforthelastseveralmonthsandsimplyjustwanttoreturntonormal,butwearen’tquitethereyet.Iamsothankfulforourleadershipteamwhohaveworkedsodiligentlywiththehealthdepartmentandourcabinettogetthenecessaryapprovalsinordertogetusonestepcloserto“normal”.Iamexcitedtobeginmeetingallofyouoverthecomeweeks.IamdeeplyhonoredtohavebeenappointedyournewpastorandIamsoexcitedtoloveyou,challengeyou,andcontinuetoleadyoudeeperintorelationshipwithJesusChrist.MyheartracesasIthinkofalltheamazingministrythatwearegoingtodotogetherhereinPuebloandacrosstheglobe!Blessings,Rev.LouWard

trainingmanagerinPueblobeforebeingcalledintotheministry.HegraduatedfromiliffSchoolofTheologywithaMasterofDivinitydegreein2016andwasordainedasanElderinfullconnectionintheUMCin
Billings,Montanain2019.LouservedasavolunteerColoradoStatePatrolChaplainfrom2009-2010.Rev.LoualsoservedintheArmyReservesfrom2012-2015asastaffofficerasaCCAassignedtothe440thCABNatFortCarson.LouservedWalsenburgandTrinidadUMC’sfrom2015-2017andmostrecentlyservedLaJuntaUMCfrom2017-2020.LouandJennaweremarriedin2005.JennaiscurrentlypartofthenursingfacultyatOteroJuniorCollegewheresheteachesfirstandsecondyearnursingstudents.Theyhavetwosons,Landon(11)andLiam(7)bothwhoareveryexcitedtobebackinPueblo.LandonlovessoccerandothersportsandLiam
lovessportsandmusic.LoubelievesinaMatthew25mission.Jesustellsaparableofsheepandgoats,inwhichJesuscommandsustocareforthe“leastofthese”:thehungry,thethirsty,thelonely,thesick,thenaked,andtheimprisoned.Whateverwedofortheleastofthese,Jesussays,wedoforhim.WalsenburgUMCwasgivenadenominationalawardunderRev.LouWardforbuildingacommunityfoodboxwherethechurchandcommunitycouldprovidefood/water/toiletries/etc.fortheneedyinthecommunity.Themottowas“takewhatyouneedandleavewhatyoucan”.Loualsohasapassionforservingtheveterancommunityandplanstocontinuehismonthlyveteran’sbreakfastwhenitissafetodosoalongwithhisotherveteranoutreachprojects.LouhasbeenblessedtohavebeenaskedtogivetheinvocationandbenedictionatthePOW/MIAservicehereinPueblolastyearaswellasthelasttwoyearsattheWreathsAcrossAmericaatFortLyonsNationalCemetery.LoualsohasparticipatedeachyearinthecommunityVeteran’sDayservicesinLaJunta.LouissuperexcitedtobepartoftherichhistoryofWesleyUMCandtheircontinuedlegacyofmissionworkinPuebloandacrosstheglobe.Heintendstocontinuetoreachthemarginalizedandvulnerablepopulationsinourcityaswellascontinuetoreachouttoyoungerfamiliesandstudentswithengagingandpurposefulworshipexperiences,communityoutreach,andweekdayprogramming.EveryoneiswelcometojoinustowelcomeRev.LouandhisfamilybacktoPuebloandtoWesleyUMConSundayJuly5thforanoutside,asafeandsociallydistanced,serviceat9amat85StanfordAve!

willstartchurchservicesonJuly5that9:00am.Theservicewillbeheldonthesoutheastportionoffrontlawn,whichisalmostcompletelyinshadeatthattimeinthemorning.Weaskthatyouwearafacemaskandbringyourownlawnchairs.InordertofollowtheColoradoHealthDepartmentandMethodistChurchrulesforre-startingchurchserviceswewillmarkthegrasswithlocationssixfeetapartwhereyoumayplaceyourlawnchairs. Whatisevenmoreexcitingaboutthisserviceisthatitwillbeourfirstservicewithournewpastor,Rev.LouWard.ThegoodLordhasgraceduswithawonderfulyoungmantoguideandleadusintoaneweraforourchurch.WewishwecouldwelcomePastorWardinamoreconventionalmannerbuttherulesoftheCovid19quarantine,thatkeepourhigh-riskcongregationassafeaspossible,willnotallowit.Weexpecttocontinuetheseoutsideservicesforatleastacoupleofmonths.Thefollowingisalistofthingsyouneedtoknowabouthowtheseserviceswillwork:
