A Deeper Look

By The Numbers

158

2

Senior guard Aysha Harris needs just 158 points to become the 11th player in school history to eclipse the 1,000 point mark in her career. Harris’ top single-season scoring effort came last season as she scored 338.

West Georgia’s defense currently ranks second in scoring defense, allowing just 51.5 points per game. In other defensive stats, the Wolves are second in blocked shots with 3.25 per game and fifth in steals, taking 10 per game.

73The Wolves have saved their best for the last, scoring 73 collective points in the fourth quarter this season. That’s an average of just over 18 points per fourth quarter. In their last game, the Wolves scored 22 points in the final quarter to erase a late deficit and defeat Fort Valley State.

Team Notes• West Georgia is 3-1 on the year as they open league play on Thursday night in Huntsville.• The Harris duo lead the Wolves in scoring with Aysha scoring 10.0 per game and A’Kia putting in 9.0 a game. A’Kia leads the team in rebounding with 7.8 boards per game.• UWG’s defense ranks second in the league, a notable statistic based on the fact that West Georgia has played largely man defense this season.• Jayda Dooley is helping the UWG defense that ranks second in blocked shots per game as the sophomore blocks 1.5 shots per game.• Aysha Harris is also in the top-10 in the league in assists, dishing out 3.8 per game. Harris has 192 assists in her career.

About the Opposition• Alabama Huntsville opens GSC play with a 1-3 record, with their lone win coming against Kentucky State on the road.• Most recently, the Chargers fell to Nova South-eastern 72-68 in Fort Lauderdale.• Andrea Lemmond is in her fifth season as UAH’s head coach, amassing a career record of 46-68.• The Chargers are led by Aryn Sanders, who scores 19.8 points per game, ranking her second in all of the Gulf South Conference. Sanders, howev-er, did not play in UAH’s most recent game at Nova Southeastern.• Katie Speegle also averages in double-figures for UAH, chipping in with 13.8 per game. Speegle is also UAH’s leading rebounder, pulling down 9.3 per con-test.

Record Book Watch• After 40 points through the first four games on

the year, senior Aysha Harris now needs 158 points to reach the 1,000 career point mark. She would be the 11th player in school history to acheive that feat.• A’Kia Harris has 31 rebounds on the year, giv-ing her 567 in her career. Harris would become the seventh player in school history to record 600 career rebounds.

Last Time Out• West Georgia remained a perfect 2-0 on the road last Tuesday, with a 65-55 win over Fort Valley State.• The Wolves trailed after three quarters, but out-scored the Wildcats 22-8 in the final quarter.• Ayhsa and A’Kia Harris led the Wolves in scoring on that night, each pouring in 10 points. A’Kia was 5-of-9 from the field in the win.• A’Kia Harris also grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Wolves on the glass while Edley Drawhorn pulled down seven.• West Georgia scored 31 points off turnovers in the win.

Matchups to Watch• Offensively, the Wolves and Chargers matchup fairly even, but the Wolves defense allows almost 20 points less per game than the UAH defense.• The matchup between Katie Speegle and A’Kia Harris in the paint should be an intriguing one. Spee-gle leads UAH in rebounding and Harris leads the Wolves.

Assistant Coach

CHATIL BRADFORDFirst SeasonAlma Mater: Columbus State, 2014Coach Groninger and the Wolves have a new face on the bench this season as Chatil Bradford is in her first season as UWG’s assistant women’s basketball coach.

Bradford spent the past two seasons at Division II foe Tuskegee as the assistant coach, and is a former standout at Columbus State. Bradford is a native of Clayton County and was a prep star at Morrow High School. From there, she had a standout career at Columbus State. Bradford was a four-year regular for the Cougars, and was named MVP of the 2014 Peach Belt Conference Tournament. That was the season she made an impact on Groninger and UWG as she poured in 35—most ever by a Wolves’ opponent in The Coliseum—as Columbus State topped West Georgia in an overtime thriller, 66-65.

Bradford earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degree from Columbus State. She served as a graduate assistant for the Cougars while working on her master’s degree.
