In an easy to read question and answer format, we offer a “who’s who” introduction of professionals in the local luxury home marketplace. Western Home Journal recognizes the importance of getting to know the people behind a business, and offers its Business Profiles to help in accomplishing this. We provide a list of suggested questions tailored for the type of business, such as contracting, architecture, landscape design, craftsmen, and interior design, and include questions about both professional and personal experiences and viewpoints. This helps prospective customers get to know the key people in a business that stand behind their services and products and this understanding promotes the trust that is the basis for all business relationships.

robert g. sinclair architecture business profile

Robert G. Sinclair Architecture, Inc. (RGSA) is a full service architecture and design firm specializing in custom residential and resort architecture.

From RGSA’s home office in Aspen, and satellite offices in Milwaukee and New York, they deliver projects across the country including completed and/or on the boards projects in exclusive locales: California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Montana, New York, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Q. How has architecture changed in the last two-three years, both in terms of type of projects and the approach to building them?A. There are fewer “no-budget” projects than there were. We have to be more creative with sourcing and more diligent in our design process, attention to detail and looking for efficiencies created during the construction process.

How do you think the built environment will change and be different in the next five to ten years? There is an obvious and necessary requirement for energy efficiency now and into the future. That said; a home doesn’t have to have any particular aesthetic to achieve efficiency. Also, major remodels are popular right now. Either clients need to stay in a home that isn’t at present meeting their needs or some clients are finding deals on built properties that they want to make their own.

What makes designing buildings in this area unique?Aspen is unique because there is limited space and it’s so desirable. The clients are often building a vacation home and are excited to embrace the mountain aesthetic or conversely, create something unique to aspen. We design all over the country but feel that in understanding the Aspen market best, we are very qualified to deliver homes anywhere.

How do you prefer to work with others on the project team?Communication is key to every successful project and the architect leads this front. We enjoy collaborating with consultants and contractors to achieve the best product possible for our clients.

What other specialties do you have in-house?We provide interior design and furnishing, art consulting and pretty much everything else required to deliver a complete living environment.

Is there a particular project of which you are most proud?I am particularly proud of a couple of projects. We have recently completed a spectacular home just below the exhibition ski lift at the Highlands ski area. The exterior of the home is a very successful mix of rustic materials detailed in an elegant and interesting way, which compliments a sophisticated interior. Also, we have just finished a barn in the area that we designed using traditional timber construction with reclaimed barn wood, extensive stone work, custom lighting and rustic finishes. We consider the horses that will live there very lucky.

Do you have favorite materials, or a style you like or are known for?We are known for our attention to detail from materials selection to installation precision. I believe that each project is unique to each client’s individualized wish lists, aesthetic goals, site opportunities, orientation and climactic conditions and thereby each project has its own resultant design approach. Additionally, we strive to create original solutions for every project, rather than relying on “favorite” materials or standard details.
