There’s no place likeBurlington Pharmacy – you don’thave to click your heels threetimes in a row to feel at homehere.

The friendly staff and welcom-ing environment are all you needto feel comfortable.

“That’s what we’re all about –making people feel comfortable,”said pharmacist and owner SteveMueller.

“Traditional pharmacies havea very overpowering cold feelingwith bright lights and whitewalls. We, on the other handhave created an atmosphere thatmakes you comfortable whenyou walk in the door to decreaseanxiety,” he said.

The way you’re talked to,treated and cared for atBurlington Pharmacy is whattruly makes this pharmacy dis-tinct.

“We practice the oldfashioned-way where wemeet our customers in per-son. We get to know theirlife, their needs and howtheir prescriptions fit intothis,” said Steve.

The well-trained andcourteous team, with morethan 180 years of collectiveexperience, is focused toprovide you unmatchedservice, quality, accessibility, and cost effectiveness.

Burlington Pharmacy hasbeen providing superiorcustomer service and topquality, state-of-the-art med-ical equipment and suppliessince 1976.

They’ve even expandedtheir prescription businessto include compounding forspecial needs like hormonereplacement therapy andpain management.

They specialize in chil-dren’s medicines and evenveterinarian medicine, creat-ing forms an flavors thatcan be given for specificneeds.

“By branching into com-

pounding, we’re adding a newmethod of caring for people youcan’t get from our competition.”Steve said.

Client education is also a keycomponent in separatingBurlington Pharmacy from thecompetition.

“It’s so important as a profes-sional health care provider toprovide education to thepatient,” Steve explained.

“The patient has a seriousneed for the knowledge a phar-macist has to offer. At our phar-macy we take the time to sharethat knowledge,” he said.

They share this knowledgewith the community as a whole, too. They’ve worked with theYMCA, health departments, andnursing practices, offering class-es with local experts to help edu-

Don’t ignore that reminder cardNearly 75 percent of American adults suffer from various

forms of periodontal (gum) disease and don’t know it. Visitingyour dentist twice a year is the best way to maintain good oralhealth and treat problems early that may be both costly and

The fight against gum disease is verymuch real in the United States, withmore than 80 percent of adults havingsome form. Unfortunately most of that80 percent don’t even realize they havegum disease.

Treatment, however, is very impor-tant. Gum disease is the number onecause of tooth loss and research linksoral bacterial infections to Type 2Diabetes, heart disease, blood clots andstroke, respiratory disease, and pretermand low birth weight babies.

Symptoms include:• bleeding gums• sensitive teeth• obvious plaque, tarter or calculus• persistent bad breath• swollen, red or tender gums• spaces developing between your

teeth• receding gums (teeth appear

longer)• loose or mobile teeth

Many people ignore these symptoms, however, because they cannot see theinfections, but they are very serious. Ifyou had an open, bleeding wound inyour hand, you’d treat it. The infectedwounds in your mouth are just asimportant to treat because they can lead

to other serious, even fatal health issues. The most common way to treat oral

bacteria is a professional cleaning proce-dure called scaling and root planing thatphysically removes oral biofilm.Unfortunately, bacteria are continuallyreintroduced into the mouth and oralbiofilms regenerate very easily, so it isdifficult to control them between officevisits.

The Perio Protect Method, offered byDr. Barry Ross, offers an additional tech-nique designed to help you manage oralbacteria on a daily basis.

Using a custom-formed prescriptiontray, doctor-prescribed medication canbe placed into the periodontal pocket. The tray is designed to prevent medica-tion from being quickly washed away.Dr. Barry Ross will prescribe the bestmedication for your condition, as well asindividualized treatment instructions. For most following the Perio ProtectMethod, treatment requires just minuteseach day.

Patients have described the methodas a comfortable treatment option andreport additional positive side effects offresher breath and whiter teeth.

For more information on the PerioProtect Method, call Dr. Barry Rosstoday at 661-8586.

In 1997, two CincinnatiJewish nursing homes,Glen Manor and theOrthodox Jewish Home, merged and becameCedar Village.

With this merger manyrich and wonderful tradi-tions were begun. One ofthem was the annualChristmas Mitzvah Day,formerly known as SwitchDay.

Switch Day was imple-mented by the OrthodoxJewish Home Auxiliary.

This group of dedicat-ed community volunteersand their families wouldcome in and perform thework of the non-Jewishstaff on Christmas Day.

The idea was con-ceived by Frieda Aaron, who had worked at theOrthodox Jewish Home asdirector of activities, andis currently a resident lifecoordinator at CedarVillage.

Local doctors, nurses, family members, andcommunity volunteerswould come in and assistso the non-Jewish staffcould enjoy theirChristmas holiday at

home with their families. From that first

Christmas to today, thetradition is still carried onat Cedar Village. Thoughvolunteers are unable totake over for all staff thatday, they do provideassistance to the manydedicated employees onChristmas Day.

Each year on CedarVillage’s Mitzvah Day,more than 100 communityvolunteers assist with pro-grams, serve meals, per-form light housekeeping, cook, greet, assist in thedeli, and provide assis-tance in many othercapacities.

One very special proj-ect is deliveringChristmas gifts to thenon-Jewish residents.

Although many volun-teers from the communityparticipate, it is the coregroup of dedicated, hard-working Friends of CedarVillage volunteers who doa yeoman’s job each year.

The Friends of CedarVillage auxiliary volun-teers have been activeparticipants since theOrthodox Jewish Home

chance to make a differ-ence in the lives of thenearly 300 residents whocall Cedar Village theirhome.

A group of volunteersfrom the Rockdale TempleBrotherhood look forwardto Mitzvah Day each year.

Beginning early in themorning, almost 50 con-gregates arrive to make aspectacular pancakebreakfast for the residents.

“It is a huge undertak-ing and we love everyminute of it,” said GerryKorkin, former Presidentof Rockdale Temple.

“Dozens and dozens ofhomemade pancakes arecooked on the griddle atthe same time, and thenserved hot and fresh withbutter and syrup,” saidKorkin.

“We know the resi-dents at Cedar Villageenjoy this every year,” hesaid, “but not more thanwe do. Coming back yearafter year – and seeing thebig smiles on their faces –is the reward for thislabor of love.” he said.

TIPS from page 4painful down the road.

The world isn’t flat and neither is your mouthBrushing may clean your teeth, but

what about the other surfaces in yourmouth that harbor bad breath germs? That’s why adding a mouthwash toyour daily routine is essential to cleanwhat brushing and flossing may miss.

Consider two-in-one formulas Coffee can discolor teeth, so if you

are a coffee lover and in need of a whitersmile, look for products like toothpastesand rinses with peroxide and fluoride.

They can whiten teeth and restore enam-el. Additionally, foods like celery, applesand carrots act as a natural stainremover to scrub away some of thoseunwanted spots.

Technique mattersThere’s a proper way to brush and

floss. If you’re unfamiliar with the cor-rect technique, ask your dentist for help. You can also visit the American DentalAssociation’s website to watch somegreat tutorials on proper technique.Courtesy of ARA Content
