Community NASA Keck Access

•  NASA’s allocation is 1/6 of the nights on the Keck telescopes

–  ~ 45 nights: usually split ~23 on K1 and ~22 on K2

–  If you do not have access to Keck through your home institution, this is the ONLY way to get Keck time!

•  NExScI manages the proposal process from solicitation to funding

•  2016A deadline has just passed

•  2016B deadline for observations from Aug 2016 – Jan 2017 is March 17, 2016

For more info see: Dawn Gelino

Keck Observatory Archive (KOA)

•  The Keck Observatory Archive (KOA) is a NASA-funded collaboration between NExScI and WMKO

•  KOA houses ALL data acquired at the Keck Observatory since operations began in 1994 –  Immediate availability (<24 hr) to PI –  Available to community > 18 months

•  KOA curates data from ALL observatory instruments: –  DEIMOS, ESI, HIRES, KI, LRIS, MOSFIRE, NIRC, NIRC2,

NIRSPEC, OSIRIS, and LWS •  KOA provides calibrated browse products for HIRES, NIRC2,

OSIRIS, and LWS •  Virtual Observatory (VO)-compliant program interfaces for all

instruments with an imaging mode. For more info see: Bruce Berriman or Chris Gelino

Large Binocular Telescope Interferometer

•  Mid-IR Nulling Interferometer for the LBT (PI: Phil Hinz, U. of Arizona)

•  Expected to be 50x more sensitive to habitable zone dust than previous facilities

•  Key Science: exozodi dust survey around 50 nearby stars

•  Parallel high contrast direct imaging survey of nearby warm Jupiters

•  Data archive @ NExScI
