WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT FROM YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?

Page 2: What have you learnt from your audience feedback

Before we began to plan our music video, we decided as a group to do some research into our target audience in order to gain some audience feedback to identify what factors would make our music video suitable for our target audience and what elements make music videos ‘professional’. Below are the set of results I gained when doing further research into our target audience.

From these results I was able to address the group with the elements that we should include to ensure our video is to the highest standard. The audience feedback helped us out immensely as it enabled us to construct our video around these results to ensure that our product was accurately suitable for the viewers. As we have aimed to apply Goodwins theory (1993) to our video, question one was very important to gain the opinions of those regarding whether or not the visuals of the music video should be related to the lyrics. 60% of our respondents said that they feel it was necessary for the visuals to relate to the lyrics which has lead us to the conclusion that it is vital we include this element within our video.

Another focus point we aimed to expand our knowledge on, was the way in which we presented the

video visually (editing/pace, lighting, colour, etc). The majority of our respondents preferred to have ample lighting and a high amount of colour within the video however the votes regarding the pace of the song are even at 50% opting for a fast pace and 50% opting for a slow pace.

Q7. How long do you think a music video should last?

Page 6: What have you learnt from your audience feedback

40% of our respondents stated that 3minutes and 30seconds was the best length for a video, closely followed by 4minutes with 30% of the votes and 5minutes+ with the remaining 30%.

With all these factors and results in mind, we chose constellations by Enter Shikari as we felt the slow pace, length and visuals relating to the lyrics were all factors we could include by using this particular song.

In addition to gaining feedback for my music video, I had to gain feedback for my ancillary products. In order for me to do this, I uploaded my album poster and digipak to Facebook and I gave both to my teacher. By doing this, I hoped I would recieve constructive, honest and reliable feedback to help me fix the faults within my work.

Here is my first attempt at my album poster. The feedback I gained was very positive however many suggested I change the colour scheme to match that of my music video and colours that are associated with rock.

This is my second attempt, I included the feedback I recieved from my previous attempt and included a more appropriate colour scheme. The feedback from this was again positive however I was advised not to use the songs as part of the poster and to include something more appropriate. In addition to this, I was also advised to just use a black background.

This is the third attempt of my poster. This time many people said this was good enough to be my final product however I felt changed and improvements could be made such as including quotes from the magazine companies and adjusting the positioning of the whole poster.

This is my fourth and final attempt. I believe this is the closest I could get my poster to have the professional image I was looking for.

Here is my initial digipak. As you can see there are some faults such as the visible red lines around the outside and through the middle. This was one of the faults that were raised when I posted my digipak on Facebook. In addition to this, the CD holder was said to ruin the image of the digipak therefore I decided to fix this as well. Despite these faults the feedback was mostly positive and the colour scheme was well praised.

Here is my amended and final version of my digipak. As you can see the CD holder has been made by myself and the red lines have been removed. I have also updated the pictures as I feel these ones are better, and I have also changed my logo.
