What is Blog software ?

Blog software, also known as weblog software, blogging software, or blogware, is software designed to simplify creating and maintaining weblogs. As specialized content management systems, weblog applications support the authoring, editing, and publishing of blog posts and comments, with special functions for image management, web syndication, and post and comment moderation.

Video blog

A video blog or video log, sometimes shortened to vlog[1] (pronounced 'vlog' or 'v-log') is a form of blog for which the medium is video,[2] and is a form of web television. Vlog entries often combine embedded video (or a video link) with supporting text, images, and other metadata. Entries can be recorded in one take or cut into multiple parts. The vlog category is popular onYouTube.

Video logs (vlogs) also often take advantage of web syndication to allow for the distribution of video over the Internet using either the RSS or Atom syndication formats, for automatic aggregation and playback on mobile devices and personal computers (See video podcast).

Miscellaneous video blogging events

2005, January - Vloggercon, the first vlogger conference, is held in New York City.[15]

2006, March 17 - the show with zefrank is launched. A short video program produced Monday through Friday for one year (March 17, 2006–March 17, 2007).[citation needed]

2006, November — Irina Slutsky created and hosted The Vloggies, the first annual video blog awards.[16]

2007, May and August — The Wall Street Journal places a grandmother on the front page of its Personal Journal section.[17] In August 2007, she was featured on an ABC World News Tonight segment[18] showing the elderly now becoming involved in the online video world.

MP3 blog

An MP3 blog is a type of blog in which the creator makes music files, normally in the MP3 format, available for download. They are also known as musicblogs, audioblogs or soundblogs (the latter two can also mean podcasts). MP3 blogs have become increasingly popular since 2003. The music posted ranges from hard-to-find rarities that have not been issued in many years to more contemporary offerings, and selections are often restricted to a particular musical genre or theme. Some musicblogs offer music in Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) or Ogg formats.

Web directory

A web directory or link directory is a directory on the World Wide Web.[1] It specializes in linking to other web sites and categorizing those links.[2]

A web directory is not a search engine and does not display lists of web pages based on keywords; instead, it lists web sites by category and subcategory.[3]

Most web directory entries are also not found by web crawlers but by humans.[2] The categorization is usually based on the whole web site rather than one page or a set of keywords, and sites are often limited to inclusion in only a few categories. Web directories often allow site owners to submit their site for inclusion, and have editors review submissions for fitness.

RSS directories are similar to web directories, but contain collections of RSS feeds, instead of links to web sites

Web crawler

A Web crawler is an Internet bot that systematically browses the World Wide Web, typically for the purpose of Web indexing. A Web crawler may also be called a Web spider,[1] an ant, anautomatic indexer,[2] or (in the FOAF software context) a Web scutter.[3]

Web search engines and some other sites use Web crawling or spidering software to update their web content or indexes of others sites' web content. Web crawlers can copy all the pages they visit for later processing by a search engine that indexes the downloaded pages so that users can search them much more quickly.

Crawlers can validate hyperlinks and HTML code. They can also be used for web scraping (see also data-driven programming).

Googlebot

Googlebot is the search bot software used by Google, which collects documents from the web to build a searchable index for the Google Searchengine.

If a webmaster wishes to restrict the information on their site available to a Googlebot, or another well-behaved spider, they can do so with the appropriate directives in a robots.txt file, or by adding the meta tag <meta name="Googlebot" content="nofollow" /> to the web page. Googlebot requests to Web servers are identifiable by a user-agent string containing "Googlebot" and a host address containing "googlebot.com".

Currently, Googlebot follows HREF links and SRC links.[1] There is increasing evidence Googlebot can execute JavaScript and parse content generated by Ajax calls as well. There are many theories regarding how advanced Googlebot's ability is to process JavaScript, with opinions ranging from minimal ability derived from custom interpreters. Googlebot discovers pages by harvesting all of the links on every page it finds. It then follows these links to other web pages. New web pages must be linked to from other known pages on the web in order to be crawled and indexed or manually submitted by the webmaster.

A problem which webmasters have often noted with the Googlebot is that it takes up an enormous amount of bandwidth.

This can cause websites to exceed their bandwidth limit and be taken down temporarily. This is especially troublesome for mirror sites which host many gigabytes of data. Google provides "Webmaster Tools" that allow website owners to throttle the crawl rate
