    What is a Thriller?

    A Thriller is a genre widely used over the media for example onT.V Shows and Films.

    its main purpose is to create tension, suspense and excitement.This helps to engage the audience, it also keeps them on theedge of their seats.

    It makes them want to guess throughout the film as to what itgoing to happen next.

    The problem is rooted in some sort of conflict

    The protagonist in these films is set against a problem. This couldbe an escape or a mystery etc.

    Thrillers always have a climatic moment

    There are action thrillers, crime thrillers, film noir, psychologicalthrillers, science fiction thrillers and lastly religious thrillers.

    Red herrings can be used to divert attention away from the realproblem

    How is Mise en Scene used in thriller?

    Dark clothes which suggests evilness in characters

    dim lighting is used to create mysteriousness and suspense aswell as creating an unsettling atmosphere

    typical setting of a thriller film is a hotel or a dark alleyway

    The different colours which are used for example red can beassociated with warning and danger, the dark colours create asinister mood.

    Weapons are used by villains to reinforce the violence and fearoverall eg knifes and guns

    The Sounds used in a Thriller Film

    Diegetic sounds like synchronous sounds eg when someone is walkingthere is the sound of footsteps corresponding to the feet walking, thiscreates suspense and tension

    Also asynchronous sounds are used which is effective because it helpscreate the story of thriller and bring it to life

    Non-Diegetic sounds are also used to enhance drama andtension. Parallel sounds are used for when someone is running ordiscovering something fast pace music might be playing

    Sound motif is used to create a dramatic setting/atmosphere

    Sixth Sense

    Dr Malcolm Crowe is an award winning child psychologist, who is shot on the nirecognised in front of his peers by a troubled ex-patient. His new case, a youngCole, echoes symptoms that cursed his failed ex-patient. The boy's mum cannseems that Crowe is the only person that can help him.

    This film is a brilliant example of a good thriller as throughout the film the audienaware of all the information, it's like a puzzle that fit together slowly and gradua

    picture. Nearing the end there is an unexpected twist that leaves the audiencof their seats and intrigued by the twist in the plot.

    The use of the colour red through out the thriller is used to symbolise danger lurkshadowy surroundings as he can see the non-living.

    We feel sympathy for the poor boy as we get a sense he's lost and frighten andto anyone. Malcolm gains his trust and Cole admits to him that he can see deawalking around like regular people

    -The plot concerns two implicitly homosexual college chums

    -The two young men strangle their inferior classmate, hide hisbody in their apartment, and invite his friends and family to adinner party as a means to challenge the perfection of theircrime. thrill of it.

    -As the guests wander obliviously around the sealed chest,

    the killers make snippy, veiled comments about their deed,never going so far as to reveal the existence of the body northeir involvement in the murder.

    -All the guests file out, however Professor Stewart begins tosuspect that something is amiss.

    The fact that the mans family and friends are unaware thatthey are at a dinner party with him dead in a chest enhancesthe thriller feel of the film.
