Project Alternatives Under Consideration Metro is studying 2 possible light rail transit (LRT) alternatives – the State Route-60 (SR 60) alternative and the Washington Bl alternative – to extend the existing Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension (MGLEE). Either of the alternative routes would connect seamlessly to MGLEE at the existing Atlantic Station, without the need to transfer. In addition to the LRT Alternatives, the Draft EIS/EIR also evaluates No Build and Transportation System Management (which may include enhancements to existing service and/or additional bus services) alternatives.
SR-60 LRT The State Route 60 alignment generally follows the southern edge of the 60 Freeway terminating at Peck Rd in the City of South El Monte. The train would run along the side of the freeway on an elevated track crossing over existing freeway ramps. The proposed station locations include:
> Garfield Av Station> The Shops at Montebello Station> Santa Anita Av Station> Peck Rd Station
SR-60 LRT, North Side Design VariationA north side design variation of the SR-60 route is under study to minimize potential impacts to the former OII landfill superfund site in Monterey Park. This variation would have the route transition to the north side of the SR-60 freeway west of the Greenwood Av bridge and return to the south side of the Freeway just west of Paramount Bl.
Washington BlThis alignment follows the 60 Freeway to Garfield Av, then travels south to Washington Bl. At Washington Bl, the alignment continues east, terminating at Lambert Rd in the City of Whittier. This alternative is proposed to have both at-grade (street-level) and elevated sections of track to minimize impacts and reduce costs. The proposed station locations for this alternative include:
> Garfield Av Station> Whittier Bl Station> Greenwood Av Station> Rosemead Bl Station> Norwalk Av Station> Lambert Rd Station
Washington Bl LRT, At Grade/Aerial OptionsTwo design variations are being considered for the Washington Bl LRT Alternative. The first design variation would include a grade separation at Rosemead Bl. The second design variation would include an aerial crossing over the San Gabriel River/605 and a grade separation at Pioneer Bl.
