Why you'll like it

This luxury apartment lives up to the fabulously glamorous history of the house it is within!High on a rugged chalk cliff top with glorious views of the English Channel, The WhiteLodge was designed in 1903 by the renowned architect Sir John Simpson as an annexto the school at Roedean which he also created.

The Lodge was subsequently bought by beautiful socialite Lady Sackville, known asVictoria Sackville West in 1923, and a second inspirational architect, Sir Edwin Lutyenswas called upon to remodel the house. Lutyens added wings to the east and west of theoriginal Villa transforming the building into a quintessential example of the Arts and Craftsdesign. Lady Sackville and her architect were close, she being his MacSack to his MacNed,and he created for her a romantic, sunken rose garden, re-discovered and rescued fromoblivion by one apartments’ owner which at the time inspired Lady Sackville’s daughterZita and her husband Harold Nicolson when they designed the now famous gardens atSissinghurst Castle.

White Lodge featured in Country Life Magazine in 1926 and is now registered with theRegency Society as a house of historical and social interest as not only did two knightsof architecture work on it, but it was also frequented by the glamorous Knowle,Sissinghurst and Bloomsbury sets in the 1920’s. Extended and modernised over time, this luxury apartment within the east wing is now just one of six and has its own, privateand exceptionally stylish entrance complete with a designer path and seating space andinside does not disappoint with an atmospheric hallway with space for bikes, coats andbags tucked away.
